I Like the one day internet, that is brillliaanttttt!!!1!!!!eleven!!!!!

Because 250MB is nothing for a whole month so you are forced for unlimited. The 3GB is awesome too. Come on AT&T step up your game. I would get the 3G if AT&T did this. But then again I am waiting till 2nd generation.

I don't know how unlimited the unlimited is though... can't find the referenced * on that page.

On the O2 iphone contract, their data usage is actually unlimited (used to be about £750, but that limit was removed). My usage ranges from 750 - 1200mb per month. I've only gone over 1gb twice, and that's with general app usage, twitter, reading news articles, occasional youtube, and internet radio streams. I'd imagine on an iPad I'd use more data as videos have larger resolution, larger filesize? But, I always have my iPhone with me - I wouldn't always carry an iPad with me so data usage on an iPad would probably be around the same as I've been using on my iPhone (due to increased video sizes, but less frequent use). Make sense?

what bout we chuck this all away, buy a WIFI only ipad, get a USB dongle for say £10 a month....and from the £100 we saved off not buying WIFI +3g iPad...get this wireless travel router :
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zoom-3G-Wir...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1272270940&sr=8-1

guess this will work, if we can get a bag to hold this near our iPad case!!

After seeing the ClamCase video recently with the bluetooth keyboard, I wouldn't be suprised if a concept case with a slimline built in 3G wifi modem surfaces...

a) Why are they different from any other device on their network. For example if it was a phone (not including iPhone of course) it costs just £1 per day for unlimited (not restricted to 200Mb) data. Surely 100Mb is 100Mb whether you use a phone or a modem, or an iPad??? What gives.

The average person with the average mobile phone would have a difficult time using 200MB in (1) day. Putting the cap for iPad users limits the streamers and data hogs. Afterall, your carrier's bandwidth is NOT unlimited. I can utilize 200MB on my iPad 15-60 minutes easily. It's just REALLY, REALLY easy to use up data on the iPad.

IDK, after using the iPad for a while, I dislike having to go back to the iPhone for data while out and about. Like myself, I'll bet in time, a lot of people will find ways to take their iPad with them like they do with their iPhone now.

from reading around iphone sim cards work in ipads as well so i would think that you could maybe use the o2 text and web pay as you go sims where when you top up with £10 give you 300 texts and unlimited data (not that you could officially use the texts on the ipad)

http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/Pay_and_Go/sim-only

im hoping that they will just release similar priced tarrifs to there pay and go ones as i could cope with and be very happy with £10 for a month of unlimited data

actually it is available: MiFi !! with a better data plan...
£15 monthly with 5GB data - check it out- http://www.three.co.uk/Mobile_Broadband/MiFi_plus_iPod_bundle

Yup, I know they're available, but I expect somebody to build one into the flap of a case, for example... or like the ClamCase, build the modem underneath the bluetooth keyboard somehow..

Yeah fair point, I've seen a few people say they don't like going back to using mail/twitter/etc on an iPhone after using them on an iPad.. hmmm.

"+ unlimited browsing at wi-fi hot spots"

at first I thought that was some type of joke like "bus passes are $2 and you can do all the free walking you want"

but then I remembered that my ATT iphone plan allows for wifi in Starbucks, McD's and other places I can't remember.

Is that what Orange is saying? Are they omnipresent like ATT?

that sounds pretty good actually. do u have a link?

at the moment i pay about £15 and i think i get 500 texts and only about 100 minutes. but its a rolling 30 day contract. i dont like being tied down which is why im going to (providing i can get round the mini sim situation) use the same contract when i but the iphone4 pay as you go and swap it out.

O2 Simplicity for iPhone rolling monthly contract is from £20 for 300 minutes + unlimited texts + unlimited data. It's £15 per month for the same if you sign up for a 12 month contract. http://shop.o2.co.uk/tariffs/simplicity/iphone/1_month

edit: Oh OK, just noticed that has already been posted by PhoneyBoy

Pretty crap prices if you ask me. If it was unlimited that would be different (for the £25 tariff). Here's hoping O2 can do better.
5p/mb = £51/GB!

5gb is a quite a good chunk of data, Mate! I think the rates are great compared to what u get in US.

Somewhat higher, please look at the exchange rates before passing off that info.

That is close to $60 for a 10GB limit. That is really bad in comparison.

Data goes just as easy on iPhone.

Seriously one can go through a lot of data real fast on iPhone. YouTube being just one possibility.

O2

It will be interesting to see what O2 has to offer for iPad tarrifs. Mind you there's unlimited Internet for £10 - £14 top up on PAYG deals.

Let's hope the Canadian carriers also have "1 day" and "1 week" cards. And if these cards are available everywhere there's cellphone cards, then it'll be a really good option and might push me to get a 3G model instead of only the wi-fi model.

Not from UK, so UK posters... are these prices fair?

At current exchange rates the iPad Monthly works out to $38 a month. Not bad given the 10GB cap at that rate. Given the talk here in the US of running a foul about going over 5GB.

The best thing is being able to maybe buy a microSIM card while on travel in the UK and save some $. :)

All of the major carriers in the UK have their own hotspots at places like Starbuck's, Costa, McDonalds etc.--a simple Google should do the trick.

It's quite expensive actually, considering how much the average person would actually use it. I can't remember for certain but something like 3-5 quid a month for usage at hotspots; I'll just use my unlimited 3G thank you very much.

What is a "quid" for those of us across "The Pond"?

Orange have always gouged on price per gb, this doesn't surprise me at all. As much as I absolutely despise 'hutchinson 3G' you have to admit they're the cheapest game in town. I actually admire them for not getting in on this "unlimited" data ********.

Err... you mean France Telecom....
