My plan right now is to try and get one from a store around me

During the initial launch, I had to travel 50 miles out-of-the-way before I could find an available one

With rumors going around that Apple won't fully stock all stores with them, I am contemplating ordering online but ONLY if they can get it to me the day after launch day

Nothing feels better than whipping out cash in store and walking out with the newest gadget !

Cash? You mean that paper currency they used back in the 20th century? :D Even if that is still an acceptable way to buy goods, I don't think Apple accepts it for iPhones. But then again, it's not like they have to worry about you selling it in another country on the black market since it will be available everywhere.

I'll be buying it in the store, especially if it is released on a Friday. Buying online with a Friday release means that you might not have it until Monday at the earliest.

I'll probably get it at the store. I'm trying to figure out which of the three NYC stores will be the least crowded--they're all usually packed.

this has probably been discussed in another forum but does anyone know what type of evidence they want to see to qualify yourself as a current iPhone user? I won't have my iphone on hand so I'm thinking I should head to an ATT store to be safe so they can look over my account

They will sell them online. I would be willing to bet the house on this. Now, they may not be available immediately online...maybe in a month or two (though I suspect it will be sooner, likely on release day of July 11 or within 2 weeks). There is NO CHANCE in heck that Apple/AT&T will not use the world's largest storefront to sell their product. Zip, zero, nada chance.

I'll be outside the nearest O2 shop before it opens. Taking advantage of 16GB iPhone for £59 :)

I'm going to wait maybe a week or so to make sure there are no massive defects a la iPod touch. Remember that, people?

If I purchase at an apple store can they port the numbers, set up a family plan etc? I want to get a family plan and put two iPhones on it that share minutes but each have a data plan. Can the apple store handle that?

I read a thread here that if there are problems it's better to have purchased at an apple store bc they will take it back within a month and get you a new one where AT&T could force you into a refurb (if there are any at that point)

True?
