you are joking right? ASP aka the average selling price of the iPhone 4 for apple is about $625

so apple get any where between $350 to $450 from ATT/Verizon/Sprint for each and every iPhone sold ...

there is a article somewhere in the macrumors

Do you really think that Verizon/Sprint/at&t pay the difference between subsidized and retail? Not likely. I would guess that the $200 figure mentioned before is pretty close. When large corporations buy millions of anything, they don't pay retail.

If you order an iPhone on your existing line and agree to two years more, can you then go back to your dumb phone and cancel the data plan then do what you want with the iPhone?

This is exactly what I was thinking about... I am sure you can't just drop the iphone which is under contract and replace it with a dumbphone

But you can't do that... The carrier has you under a contract with both the iphone 4 and 4S which requires a data plan..? You can't just drop an iphone under contract and put a dumbphone...

Tell that to Verizon because that's exactly what I did. The carrier doesn't have you under contract for a specific phone just for a length of time. Read your agreement. You don't need a minimum plan, you just need to have a voice plan for 2 years to fulfill your agreement. I have the 4S on one line and a old razr on the other. No 2nd data plan. I successfully got a 4S and MADE money.

After analyzing, you are right. You can put a dumbphone in the line but you can't just drop the line if not you have to pay 350 instead of 175 which is the ETF
