Spending hours in line at the store while leaving my wife at home with the kids is not going to be worth on it many levels.
So I just ordered me a Black 64GB WiFi+3G (Verizon) online + Black Leather Smart Cover (loved the reviews on this) + Digital AV Adapter + Camera Adapter.
Went with Verizon for the few times I will need 3G on the iPad since it increases the likelihood of finding coverage when travelling and when I get the iPhone-5 (assuming its not 4G LTE on Verizon) I will stick with AT&T for the speed I enjoy in my home area with the option of WiFi hotspot always available in AT&T-friendly regions.
I still have the VGA and Composite Video Adapters that I bought with the original iPad. Now when this arrives I get to sell my original iPad on craigslist.
I am excited -- and I even got an Employee Purchase Program discount on the iPad and accessories as my employer has a partnership with Apple (not much but help offset the sales tax since I refused to deal with MacMall this year). Here is the pricing break down:
- Black 64GB iPad 2 WiFi + 3G (Verizon) $812 (save $17 EPP)
- Black Leather Smart Cover $63 (save $6 EPP)
- Digital AV Adapter $36 (save $3 EPP)
- Camera Connection Kit $27 (save $2 EPP)
- Subtotal: $938 (total EPP savings: $28)
- Taxes: $75.98
- Total $1013.98
So sure the $28 EPP savings is not much, but at least it pays for part of the sales tax.
BTW: I confirmed with AT&T twice yesterday that their post-paid iPad data options are NOT eligible for the FAN discounts. I would have likely gone with an AT&T iPad if they did since my employer gets a 23% voice/data discount with AT&T for all employees through the FAN number. I was surprised AT&T is offering post-paid without FAN discounts, I would have thought the smart thing to do here would be to try to retain your business customers. Apparently, AT&T has a different business strategy than I would have thought.
