Stealing is when you take something. He was given the second MBA.

Amazon did not give him the computer. They made a mistake. If i bought a used MBA from you and instead of writing the check for $1000 i goofed and wrote it for $2000 dollars following your logic it would be ok for you to cash it because i did in fact give you the check. WTH is this world coming to? If i had a high enough post count I would start a situational ethics thread in PSRI.

I believe my post count is high enough, but I stay out of the PRSI forum because it's too depressing to see evidence of how far our society has fallen. This thread is an example of that fact, such as the post after this one.

Guess what happens if you return it? The guy in charge of shipping it gets fired. He then loses his house and his wife leaves him. His daughter, without a strong male role model, turns to prostitution. Is this really what you want?

Isn't it neat how we can justify doing bad stuff in our head? LOL!!!!!

IMO, There's only one option and that's to return it - you haven't paid for it so why would it even cross anyone's mind that it's OK to keep it?

we are humans and naturally make mistakes so a lot more would have to happen for a person to get fired than simply committing a mistake like this.

And to the OP return it and have a clear conscience also you may get rewarded.

Keep it if you want, but your conscience will eventually get you, or karma. Eventually you will be caught out. Just do the right thing and tell them.

Just to jump in though about people saying its stealing, its a tough one. He hasn't technically taken or removed an item from a place illegally. He was sent the item. Morally its wrong to keep it but I wouldn't say its 100% stealing.

Still I think its wrong and should be returned

I'd want to keep it but i'd probably give them a ring and tell them they've made the mistake. You never know you might get something back in return for your good ethics :)

Return it- online

Use one of the options like "no longer want" or something like that. They still think you have only one item..

Problem solved. You are doing what's right, and this way there is a good chance the system will credit the amount of your MBA back to your credit card :)

Now we have move from bad ethics to sneaky bad ethics.

You got something that you didn't pay for it, and you really have no right for. It was a mistake by the shipper, so I'd contact them and explain the situation.

I agree with everyone saying definitely return it. Bottom line: it isn't yours.

If they asked for it back, I would 100% return it. But if they do not, then it is not my fault they are careless enough to not check.

That's like saying if someone gives you too much change, then it's not stealing if you don't return it.

Interesting views in this thread, that's for sure.

Great advice. What you're suggesting is fraud.

Interesting problem to have. I'm trying the think what I would do in this situation. Me, I would expect them to sooner or later figure out the mistake and bill me for the second Air. Considering that I would return it.

Some will return, some will not. You decide.

Personally, if the law is behind me I would keep it.

Since this came under one shipment there is virtually no chance they will know and no way to prove they sent it to you vs another.

Sit on it for a while but I dont think even if they ask you are obligated to send it back. They cannot prove you have it.

After reading some of the posts, just because I would choose not to return the MBA unless asked does not make me a bad person. We have different opinions, that is fine, I never said yours was wrong.

What is wrong though is judging people (GGJstudios). We disagree on a controversial topic, so that gives you a right to say I am of low society? No. It does not.

I have shown you all respect, I expect the same.

I respect your right to state what you would do. I reserve the right to have the opinion that you don't understand whats right and wrong, use situational ethics to serve your own needs, and consider stealing from a corporation "OK" because it's big and makes money.

All of this conversation is likely moot anyway. Amazon will figure this out. Even if I had the "keep it" mentality that many on this board have (I dont), I would leave that second unit sealed and untouched for at least 2 months.

Would you extrapolate this to say it's OK to commit a crime if you have no chance of being caught?

I guess this then raises the question of why people obey the law: Is it the fear of being caught or the fact that it's morally wrong that keeps people law abiding?
