Apple should only allow 1 iPhone per person/credit card. Then again people would take a friend and make them get one.

This. GTFO you scammer.

What's the scam? Selling a phone for a profit? Guess that makes Apple, Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc. etc. all scammers. Stop living in fear.

I prefer to call it taking advantage of other peoples poor planning and stupididity.

The word is stupidity, genius.
People who tried this last year ended up having to return the phones to Apple because they weren't getting their jacked up prices nor were they seeing sales like people have in the past.

Good luck with all your endeavors but I think you'll find yourself losing. I too fear for your unborn child. No, I pity them.

You could sell it on eBay,but keep in mind you'll have eBay fees, PayPal fees, you could get scammed by the buyer, and in the end the profit may be minimal. If supply was well below demand like a few years ago it would be worth it. But I wouldn't do it now.

It's not worth it to buy extra ones anymore. If the 4s launch last year was any indication, the supply will be high enough so that the resale value isn't worth it.

Has anybody here done this? For exams buying 2 iPhones, one for yourself and putting one on eBay. Hopefully at a higher price.
I am considering it but all depends on shortages, waiting times, store availability etc. But have never taken any notice precious years so no idea if it is even worth it?

And by the way, if you can't differentiate between the words "sale" and "sell" you might want to put a bit more thought into your business endeavors. :D ;)

If the iPad 3 launch earlier this year was any indication, then no, it's not worth it. They had just about enough supply to meet demand right out of the gate and scalpers were returning iPads en masse. I get iPhone is a different animal, but I'd expect Apple to try a similar launch strategy for this device.

Yes. In the past I have bought many iDevices on launch and sold them at a much higher price. Like the iPad2. I bought 7 on launch day and sold 5 for not less than 250 more than I bought them for. So in the end I got both of my 64 gig iP2's for free. I have done the same thing with major console launches over the years. Last year even did it with the harry potter Lego sets that no one could get for christmas. Bought them locally for 99 bucks, sold on eBay for 300+.

Supply and demand. But when the 3 came out, I didn't see the demand and the supply was much higher so I didn't jump on that one. Also only bought 2 extra 4S's because of lower interest.

I don't think I will be doing anything with the 5 unless the rumors are false and the phone is bad ass. I don't want to have to take them back.

Dress it up has you like, it's ripping someone else off, just as bad has a con man imo

No. A "con man" tells lies and deceives people to take advantage of them and get what he wants.

Someone who buys an extra phone to sell to people is not conning anyone.

If there is a limited amount of said product and you want one bad enough, then you will get to it before the resellers do.... otherwise I guess you didn't really want it that bad.

I for one hope you do and end up getting burned and lose money on it

Sorry cant stand peeps who do this

But you would loose selling on fleabay with there fees

Lose money? Worst case, take it back to the store and return it and get your money back. It's a no risk endeavor.

How are you ordering more than one phone? Do you have multiple lines of service, and are going to use multiple upgrades? Because if so, then Apple ships you the iPhones partially pre-activated (to the lines you used for the upgrade), and it's not as easy as just selling one of them and sending them to a new owner (without opening the box, which reduces the resale value). Plus, you've then used your upgrades for the next two years.

If you're not going to use an upgrade, I guess that means you're buying an extra one the full $649+ price (which doesn't use your upgrade). But that means you need to resell it for around $700+ (to break even on PayPal/eBay fees), which I think really reduces the market of people you're selling to.

Either way, it seems like with the launch of last years iPhone 4s (and this years iPad 3), there weren't huge stock-outs, like previous years. That, and Apple way more quickly launched both products internationally, which also helped reduce scalping in the US, making it easier for those who hadn't prepared and pre-planned to find what they're looking for.

Yeah, that was kind of my point about asking their age/profession/student ...

I can't imagine going through the gyrations of ordering an extra phone, listing it, dealing with scammers, paying fees, packaging it up for shipping, taking the risk of the device not working for the buyer (then getting into the muck of dealing with a return), etc., for what? A couple of hundred dollars?

That is retarded.

How is it ripping someone off? They know what they sell for in the store. They know I am selling for more. They are willing to spend the extra cash to get it now.

I am not saying the phone is anything special or will cook you dinner.

I don't see how it's a scam. Or that you are ripping people off. Haven't you ever paid a premium to get something now? Have you ever paid extra to get over night shipping? Is that a rip off? No. You were willing to pay more to get it now and not have to wait. I sold a iPad to a guy Montana that just HAD to have the iPad2. He even offered to pay extra on top of my inflated price to get it over night shipped to him.

A scam or a con is based on deception. What deception is there?

I don't think its worth it, with ebay fees, paypal fees and such i doubt you would make a profit.

Its not like a few years ago when people would spend stupid money on new stuff. But then again if somebody does buy them off you for inflated prices then so be it!

I dont agree with what you suggest but its a free world!

He says you sent a empty box keeps phone and gets a refund.

Ebay rules buyer will always win

Never would happen if you ship it right. I sell just short of 100 items a month and have for several years. Never have had that happen. Had the claim made, but have always been on the winning side.

This happens ALL THE TIME. For your sake, please avoid eBay.

Edit: perhaps you were specifically asking him and not asking about eBay in general since you just mentioned the amount of business that you do there.

The fact remains though, there have been many a thread of people getting scammed both buying and selling high dollar iDevices on eBay.

Ive sold on eBay for years and never had this issue. Only sell to buyers that have a feedback score of 10 or more. I just bought a 32gb 4s for 240 and will be beating it for 400
