Apple replaced the battery in one of my iPhone SE1s a few years ago

Worst battery I've ever had -- charge life was awful and it ended up swelling and I replaced it myself the 2nd time with one from Amazon with great reviews -- it's still in there and doing great.

I'm not sure what Apple is "protecting" with "official parts", but I suspect it's "profit" they are protecting above anything else.
I don’t know why everyone is so stuck on batteries. I’ve replaced dozens over the years with both OEM and third parties, with a wide range of experience from the negative to the positive.

Unless something has changed in recent years (and they may have), batteries have been the one component that has never had a block of any type in place?

Do I have that wrong?

Don’t care about Apple’s feelings; just mine. I’d rather have a situation where my iPhone is not valuable for parts. One COULD have a setting where an iPhone wouldn’t work if stolen parts were used, but some would get panties in wad if this invalidated their income from stolen iPhones.
I'm pretty sure that Apple could still block parts with numbers from a reported stolen phone, should they wish... Shouldn't be hard to implement, surely.

Why is it always Apple? How come people don't go after DELL for selling absolute trash? Can't people just leave Apple alone and if you want to fix your broken computer, Dude get a DELL.
This law doesn't target any company, it targets them all.

To answer your question about other laws though. If you take down the biggest fish first, the other's fall like dominos. If you take down a smaller fish first, people will claim corruption for letting the big fish off the hook.

I understand your point. My point, however, is that when you travel to countries where the government has no moral compass, you are putting yourself at risk. Thankfully, you have avoided issues, as, I'm sure, most tourists do. However, we all know of situations where Westerners disappeared for no other reason than the country wanting to pick a fight with the US. Not my cup of tea.
Well, you’re certainly not wrong. Though the degree to which governments of any kind adhere to a moral compass, as you describe it, is an open question, especially when it comes to foreign policy.

Aircraft manufacturers must be thrilled at this. Imagine boarding an airplane or helicopter not knowing if the parts meet the spec and it being totally ok. Aircraft manufacturers fought for years to prevent fake parts from entering the supply chain, for safety, and to protect themselves from lawsuits.
iPhones aren't airplanes...

My mechanic says it costs him 65k a year to keep his advanced systems and special tools up to date. So he can fix the modern cars.
I don't believe this for one minute, first off, cars don't change that much year to year to require new tools every year. Second, 65k a YEAR just for tools? Just no....

My understanding, this shop not a dealership. He needs software and tools for a wider number of cars. That number is not just tools. Software subscription, speciality diagnostics, the new alignment systems. Changing and or repairing a remote for my 2024, $700 dollars. Changing a bumper $2,000, a mirror, $1,500 dollars. All requiring special everything. Apple no different.

I don't live in America, but those are some nonsensical prices...

Absolutely not....
