Water table, cost (due to geological issues like limestone), no need for deep foundations given the climate.

Same reason you don't see basements in Florida. The ground is very costly to dig.

When you go north the ground is really cheap to dig.

Same reason there no basements in Los Angeles and Phoenix.

What about walnut wood? Do you ever use it?
All the time - Juglans nigra (Eastern Black Walnut) and Juglans regina (English Walnut)
This is a bracelet I did a couple years ago. Only photo I had on my iPad. My wife lost her wedding ring a while back. I made her a new one from Walnut, Birch, and African Blackwood. She says she likes it better than her diamond!

I'd be totally lost without my basement. My office, wood shop, and "computer lab" are down there. Some "storage", but mostly usable space.

That is beautiful thanks for sharing.

Yep, it's the same reason, but I doubt it's the cost of digging. In the coastal regions we have minor annoyances called Hurricanes. They dump lot of of water everywhere. Even without a basement, you get major flooding. With a basement you'll get flooded even with a minor flash flood.

This happened back in 2001, when TS Allison moved through Houston. Flooded the hospitals basements and crippled the Texas Medical Center.

I think in Florida, Louisiana and Texas that is the case. Any where close to the Gulf Coast.

The water table is too high in Florida, Louisiana and Texas and pron to floods.

And in Phoenix and Las Vegas ground being limestone than the nice soil up north.

And Los Angeles being hard rock.

The ground is not nice like the northern states and north east states.

I like to be around people that are organized and like to organize.
Yup. For me it's the whole getting started part. Figuring out how I work, what is going to work with me, and what works with the space I have.

We just started a new computer system for work that replaces a multipart carbon form. It totally changes my organization. Do I print copies and put them in folders like I used to? Do I save the PDF's in folders on my computer? Do I keep mailing hard copies to customers or use the built in email? It will take me a bit to get used to the new system. Here's the kicker - I wrote the new system!

My woodworking shop is similar. I have bought all kinds of organizers for small parts over the years. They are wonderful for collecting clutter! I'm changing up my shop, but I still run across that one thing that doesn't fit anywhere!
