I'm in the same boat as you are thinking that it would be better and faster to just unlock with the face like when you take it out of your pocket now using Touch ID to have it ready to go by the time your eyes see the screen. However, I had read somewhere that Apple purposely made the need to have the swipe gesture up so that you can actually see/read your notifications. If it went straight to your home screen then you would miss that. So after reading that it makes sense. But it would be nice if Apple provided a choice in the settings to do it either way.
What about if there’s a notification, it won’t unlock until you swipe up. If you don’t have a notification, it simply unlocks.

How is he allowed to post review while that poor girl's video was removed and his father was fired?

Cuz Apple asked him to? I’m sure which included signing some papers.

If my memory serves me correctly, this is definitely NOT the first time a review has been published before launch...

I stand corrected on that aspect. I'd thought MacRumors would have reported this. Of course, now all the nice people claiming it all was just a marketing ploy by Apple either have to accuse Apple of even more evil and complex planning (ie, Apple tricked the employee into letting his daughter film the iPhone) or to claim that while they got it wrong this time, 99 times out of 100 they are get it right by conveniently 'forgetting' the 98 previous times they got it wrong.

I predict there will be a lot of reports of face unlock not working 100% once units get into the hands of more critical reviewers; that is, the ones that Apple hasn't specially chosen.

This review unit was given to a guy early after being chosen by Apple, however as he's mentioned the face unlock problem ....he may not get another review unit again.....

Faceunlock could be the biggest gate yet..

Not worried about FaceID one bit after seeing this. Of course it’s not 100%. In my experience, nothing is (even tapping my passcode gets mucked up sometimes, haha!!)

TouchID on my 7+ is hit & miss (mostly hit, though). I’m really looking forward to being able to unlock with sweaty/dirty/dry hands, and with gloves on.

I cannot wait for Friday!! :)

It's not petty. It's not even "making an example of". As an Apple engineer, he handles tons of proprietary information. The company has to trust him, and other employees. I'm 100% sure Apple trains employees on handling confidential information. My tech company, 1/4 the size of Apple, has mandatory online training at least twice per year. They drum it into you. This guy handled confidential information capriciously. He broke the company trust. Apple literally cannot trust him to handle proprietary information. Therefore, he cannot meet the requirements of his job. Sorry, if you can't do the job, you have to be let go. It's not a close call.
You are absolutely right. The guy made a huge mistake. Still sucks, though, especially since they're going to be in everyone's hands within a week.

I stand by the remainder of my post, though. How come sites like MacRumors (or, to expand my scope, news outlets across the political spectrum) doesn't report less flattering items about their favored sons?

It's a rhetorical question, and I know the answer, but I'd still love to hear someone fess up to the obvious bias held by every media outlet, which no one wants to cop to. Cowards.

My question is WHY, historically there are no product reviews before public launch , why is special this time, some people are given permission to review iphonex and others are not?

It is not given by apple, some youtubers found a way to get these phones for extreme $$$$ amounts.

Since there is no NDA signed, they can publish whatever they want, whenever they want.

While the screen might "spread out" to the same size as the 8+, the usable space for things like video or apps are not as large as the 8+, which many reviewers seem to be missing the point of. Since you can't show video partially obscured by the camera bump, the actual screen size is less then. It is nice that its overall a smaller size which is the one true benefit of near bezel free designs, but the belief that you are getting the same usable space is not true.

Anyways, I would like to read about real people use this thing in the real world in the near future.
If only it was going to be released in a few days...

I mean if you only think the x has animoji and a different screen then you shouldn’t consider upgraded after just one year with the 7.
But really here’s a lot more to it than that
It has the camera of the 8+ in the form factor of the 8, with a bigger screen than the 8, and FaceID. For me, that was worth getting the X (and I skipped the 7 generation so I have a 6s now, having had every new model of iPhone up to and including the 6s, so why not?)

And why do you think that? There’s more and more reviews popping up and nobody is having issues with it.
My touch is doesn’t work 100% of the time. Especially if I’m working with my hands

I am curious about the opinions of those who do such upgrade- what is the reasoning behind you spending this amount of money?
Ditching the forehead and chin, which—to mix anatomy—have always been the Achilles Heel of the Plus models. I bought the 6+ on launch day and returned it in a week for being too unwieldy in my pocket. The same week, I asked a coworker if I could borrow his Nexus 5 to put in my pocket, and the difference was night and day. They both had a 5.5" screen, but the footprint of the 6+ felt massive by comparison. I'll miss the ergonomics of my SE, but this is the first Apple device were I feel that the increased device size is proportionate the the increase in screen size. The other features of the X are far lower priorities.

No shame it waiting a year or two before getting the new form factor. I happily skipped the 6S and 7.

I still can't look beyond the notch.
You'll get over that.

I'm watching an interview of his on CNBC where he says

"You know something is good, when you have to learn new things in order to use it"

wow.

I don't know why but I am not even remotely interested in upgrading from iPhone 7 Plus to X....
Maybe in like 2 years... too much money for animoji and what else.... I don't know.
It looks cool, but still.... not justifies the money for me.

Hi!

For me, it’s a low cost upgrade. (Wait... what?). I buy the phones outright, and start saving for the next version, and this one is a dollar a day for me, as I buy a new phone every 3 years, so it is cheaper than the maxed out iPhone 8, at about $1.10 per day.

The reason I go with the 3 year upgrade cycle is that it makes sense, financially for me to do so, as I don’t need the latest features every year, and after 3 years, the kids get the phone. Also, Apple products are best purchased with the highest end configuration, as anything less lessens the long term value of the device.

As for iMacs, I always get the highest configuration of CPU and HD, and then upgrade the memory with after-market stuff from Crucial or other brand names.

I have a 6s Plus, need I add any further explanation for upgrading?

Agreed, I just got a 6S Plus. There's nothing yet in the newer models that I'm willing to give up my headphone jack for.
The X does look pretty cool though. Might be tempted in the future if they make an "X plus"
