Just got my Series 3. Also does not show the % when put on charge. Very odd.
[doublepost=1506119568][/doublepost]So I tested a few things. When the Watch is fresh out of the box, it shows the percentage when put on charge on my Nightstand-style dock, though the text is rotated 90 degrees.

After I paired it with my phone (either FRESH air from backup) it no longer shows percentage when put on the Nightstand dock. You just get the circular charging symbol on the top right of the screen. However, if I put the Apple Watch down on a regular charger (not Nightstand), it does show me the percentage or charge.

I don’t even know when this changed because I never paid that much attention. In any case, this is likely by design.
I highly doubt it’s by design. Like you said, it didn’t originally do it for you either. You basically had to try a few things to trick it into working properly.

I haven’t tricked it into working “properly.” It works properly if you’re not using Nightstand mode.

I am seeing the same issue. My series 3 seems to "slide off" the dock I have a bit, compared to my S2. The only way I could charge was to take the charger off my base and attach watch just to the charger and not resting on the dock. Then it showed night stand mode. I also got the error not supported charger once as well.

Wondering if the tiny change in thickness is making the slightly slanted charging docks an issue.

I thought this was by design until I saw this thread. I’m having the same issue. S2 Sport.
I don’t like that I’m not seeing the charge loop. That was reassuring to know it was charging, and now it’s gone.
I guess I’ll try the go-to fix of erasing and starting over. smh... so time consuming!!!

Edit: AND the first night I had watch OS 4 installed, I also got the “charger not supported” message. Lame! I’m using the OEM  charger!

Mine shows the status and nightstand mode works as long as the watch is on its side and not on my dock. My series 2 snaps right into the dock but the S3 seems too heavy? Weird

I think you may have posted this in the wrong thread. This thread is about the fact that the charging symbol no longer flashes on the screen when you set it to charge.

I've reported this bug to Apple, along with the bug that makes the music controls randomly pop up for no reason. I'm starting to regret updating to OS4. It's like they didn't have a whole summer to test it, what a sloppy release.

Let me know if erasing it works for you.

Oh. Mine shows the status as long as it’s not on the dock and just on the charger
But does it actually charge when on the dock? Or does it fail to connect altogether?

My watches charge just fine, but they don't display the reassuring full screen charging symbol anymore like they used to.

It does not show that it is. I just see the blue lock symbol. The normal charging screen shows when just connected to charger free of dock

I have a S3 and watchOS 4 and i charge my watch on the belkin valet dock.

I also don’t see the full screen charging indicator or hear the ding when I put it on the dock.

Is this a bug or a design choice by Apple?

So annoyed as I want to see how many % is left before I go to sleep.

I have S2 and WatchOS 4, and the Belkin Valet Dock, and I still get the charge indicator and chime when charging.

Is it actually charging in this state?

So far, so good. I did the “erase all content and settings” option last night and after setting up as a new  watch, it’s now showing the charge circle again.
While I’m glad that fixed my S2, I can imagine the frustration of being a S3 owner w/ a brand new  watch and having to “fix” your $400+ device.

That sounds like the new "feature" Launch Audio Apps. You can turn it off in Settings on your iPhone. I think it's under Activate Screen.

Now you tell us! :p I had the same “issue,” and could not stand it... well, this fixes that!

General > Wake Screen > Auto-Launch Audio Apps *off*

Thank you for clarifying - this helped!

No Chime for me. I have to restore from Backup if I want to keep my progress right? Because I've restored twice but restored my backup and still no chime when charging. Any other ideas or fix that doesn't require or force me to start from scratch?

I've resorted to using the battery widget on my phone to confirm that the watch is charging.

When I restored my watch, I set it up as new. It’s a watch so I figured “I haven’t customized that much that it would be a tremendous loss to start over.” Of course, that may be different for you...
Also, I hadn’t stated this previously, but when I did the restore, everything worked again like it should, then it stopped working like it should. For like a week.
But it’s all back to normal again. Idk why, but for that brief period, it just didn’t behave normal. Maybe such is the case for all situations and we’re going nuts restoring, only to have to go through it again?
The mind ponders...
That said - my advice is try setting up as a new watch, OR, wait about two weeks and see if it functions like it should again.

Oh, I'll leave it alone for awhile then. I don't want to lose my activity progress setting it up as new. Thank you for your response and advice.

My girlfriends S0 and my S3 both display this initially when set on the charger. Might be a bug?

So after erasing and starting as new watch, the issue disappeared... for a month.

Last night when I put my S3 on the charger the full screen charging indicator has disappeared again! It doesn't chime or show the current battery %, but the tiny charging symbol above the digit 12 is still there.

Coincidently, I installed iOS 11.1 beta 4 yesterday - But that shouldn't affect the watch right? The battery indicator was working until last night :(

Hopefully this will be fixed in an update at some point. I would imagine all the Apple employees that wear the watch too know about it.
