Missing emojis?

No ginger emoji? Downs emoji? Albino emoji? Missing eye emoji? Orthodontics emoji? Cleft pallet emoji?:eek:

I'm glad that there will be racial diversity in Emoji, finally! It caused a lot of confusion before because almost all of the Emoji faces were Asian.

It is, however, a little worrying that Canada has been given a flag in Emoji. Canadians pretty much can't help but plaster their flag over everything they do. Basically, any text message from a Canadian is now going to contain several of this new Emoji.... *sigh*

If the Unicode consortium was truly democratic, this (Canada flag issue) surely would not have been allowed to happen. I suspect undue and corrupt influences from Canadian officials.

If you wanted a realistic depiction of yourself, why not just use a photo?

The whole point of this seems lost.

And an irritating waste of time when there are so many issues with iOS & OS X going unresolved. Makes Apples priorities look pretty screwed up.

Nah, that would come from Tim Cook. He's the one obsessing over stuff like this. Like incorporating gay rights into a cybersecurity speech.

Lol. I'd be willing to bet you all my money there are A LOT more people at Apple than just Tim Cook who thought this was the right thing to do.

Yea, I know you sound like an extreme conservative right winger that is allergic to words like "equality and diversity," but how can you misconstrue this into somehow being a bad thing? "Obsessing" over showing some level of decency for fellow human beings from all walks of life is such a horribly rotten and evil thing. What a bad thing to obsess over.

Oh, it stole precious resources away from something more important. Really? This is being included in an 8.3 release, which probably has a lot more work done than just simply updating emojis. So that complaint is completely moot.

There are so many, many things I'd worry about before I cared that much (one way or the other) about emoji.

You could say that about anything. I think that the dumbing down of communication is a negative trend, that's all.

the logic with these type of posts is always faulty. Apple is always focusing on bugs and they can always allocate more resources if they think certain features require it.

I disagree, there are some very basic bugs that need to be addressed. Apple does not have huge corps of programmers and designers. Its clear those people are working on other things besides the bugs otherwise some of the bugs that have existed since 10.10 rolled out would be addressed.

Adding new features at the expense of bug fixes is one thing, adding features of dubious benefit is even more frustrating.

What? Only the yellow ones are race-free. For the others, to paraphrase Henry Ford... currently you can have any race you want with emojis as long as it's white.

Err, no. They aren't white, they're Asian. Emoji originated in Japan.

It's interesting that they used the iOS 6 style instead of iOS 7's for these new emojis. #

So this
caremoji_1.jpg
will become this
caremoji_2.jpg
in 2020. :D

Where is that character screen in OS X?

I'm running the beta but not in front of computer and wondering where that's at.

Dubious benefit to you, likely a white male in his 20s

How long until there's a software lock on how often you can use the white emojis? I can see the headlines now: 85% of emojis used are white. Al Sharpton and Tim Cook demand more diversity!!!"

Just make them all dark-skinned and get it over with. Rational white people couldn't care less about this nonsense.

For people who were wondering it should be clear by now why this thread is in here...

and then Apple will start charging your iTunes account for every white emoji you use over the quota! /s

Now the question is, do both people have to be on 10.10.3 beta 2+ to see them? What happens if I change skin tone and send it to someone on 10.10.2 presumably they get the default emoji?

I'm curious though, how is having the only racial representation being white free from racial influence? (Besides the yellow face emoji)

The point is that they do have a race. And it's usually white.

The point is that they do not have a race... and it's never white. "White" isn't even a race. Emoji's aren't human. If an emoji is light-skinned, who gives a rats ass? Do you cry at night because Mario and Luigi are "too Italian"?

It's like arguing that a lizard is green. It's such nonsense.

Oh my gosh. I'm glad they dumped Aperture and concentrated on emoji's. They are like....super important....like....ya'know?

Emoji are a terrible idea, culturally. We have a wonderful system of language that we can use to express concepts with any degree of precision desired. It is idiotic to instead use a picture based language that only allows for ambiguity. The popularity of emoji is a step backwards for society.

You sound like you're about 80 years old. :D

(I'm 54, but in denial about it)

The point is why is white always the default? I've worked in publishing for too many years and many writers will never mention a character's race—if he or she is white. But if a character is black or nonwhite, race is listed as a characteristic. It's interesting how white characters are spared that.

I'm confused why, when there's gonna be at least iOS 8.2, 8.3, 8.4 and 9.0 (which reportedly is mainly focusing on stability and performance improvements) with possible X.X.1 updates between those and with iOS 8.3 a public beta program to fix up bugs, there are people are still complaining Apple doesn't have its priorities in order? Further, is it really that big of a deal if they add in more options for emojis? The key word "option" being that if you don't want to use them don't.
