I have the Dell 5K display running at 5120x2880 60Hz on the nMP using the dual mDP to DP cables that come with the display. It exhibits the Retina effect scaled to 2560x1440 -- identical in quality to the iMac 5K sitting next to it.

Also works with the 2010 Mac Pro tower with the Geforce GTX 970, 980, and TITAN X.

Wish Apple offered their own version of the 5K display. I have to say this is one of the nicer looking Dell displays with height adjustment and option to pivot to portrait mode.

The dual cable approach is pretty unclean. I don't see Apple coming out with a 5K Display until Thunderbolt 3 and they update the Mac Pro alongside it.

This has been asked a quintillion times on the MBP board, Apple is skipping Broadwell, as are most for the more powerful machines. Next 15s will be Skylake, followed a few months later by Skylake 13s.
Under the assumption that Skylake is not delayed.

So can anybody confirm that daisy chain two monitors over displayport MST works in 10.10.3 or 10.10.4?
I have a Dell U2414H which is DP MST capable and i want to buy a second one and hook it up to the first one over DP MST.
I have a MBPr 2014 so it supports MST and i want a clean "one-cable-solution". Just plug the first U2414H in and the second is powered by the first.

nMP(6) & Dell 5k Monitor (Dual mDP cables) /Image?

I have the Dell 5K display running at 5120x2880 60Hz on the nMP using the dual mDP to DP cables that come with the display. It exhibits the Retina effect scaled to 2560x1440 -- identical in quality to the iMac 5K sitting next to it.

Care to post some images of your setup?
Would be appreciated, thanks :)

And have you tried adding any other, additional monitors?
In theory, the nMP(6) should support that Ok.

Weird things like this have me coming super close to ordering a maxed out iMac retina...

...but that ATI video hardware will have me missing all sorts of CUDA accelerated goodies in C4d and other places. I'd probably need to look at doing an nVidia card in a Thunderbolt breakout box if I got the iMac when I need to do fluid sims and GPU rendering.

If Apple updated the iMac retina with nVidia hardware I wouldn't consider sticking with my PC and i'd order this afternoon.

AMEN! Same here, brotha!
Whatsup with those crappy AMD choices?

Under the assumption that Skylake is not delayed.

Y'all gotta stop saying that, it's making me depressed.... :( I need a new MBP yesterday!

and dell is still charging 2499 for just the monitor.. Apple should add support to use a second 5k imac as a monitor.. it's the same damn price..

Read the article, it would require at least a dual-cable solution, which is not within the realm of Apple's design standards. We'll have to wait for the next update of the model before it's an option. I'm assuming at this point we'll also see the 21.5" iMac get the Retina 4k option as well. If they can, one can assume that a new DisplayPort revision (1.3) will be adopted (which supports single cable 5k displays and requires more than the 20Gb/s throughput of TB2).

All signs point to spring/summer release IMO, but if they don't release a new TB standard that supports at least 25Gb/s, then we won't see DisplayPort 1.3.

Hi,

I have an iMac 27" 5K Retina (late 2015) with 32 GB, AMD Radeon R9 M395x 4096MB.
I have just bought a second monitor, Dell Dell 27" UltraSharp UP2715K.
I am running macOS Sierra 10.12.1.

Can someone help me......

When I connect my iMac to the monitor with the DisplayPort Cable (Mini-DP to DP) the Dell Monitor simply is black screen and on its way to shut go in power save.....

When I use 1 of the DisplayPort Cables along with DisplayPort Cable (Mini-DP to Mini DP) I only get 4K on my Dell...

What am I doing wrong? Am I not able to use this second monitor?
