I'm sorry but smart albums really aren't the same as events. If I delete a photo in an album does it delete the actual file? No.

Yes, you can choose to actually delete the photo or just remove it from that particular album.

The smart albums in Photos.app are far more flexible than Events ever were.

2 horrible fails

I have read these forums plenty of times but never registered to post anything until now.

The photos app is good in theory but has 2 huge problems. I am still waiting after 2 days for my photos to upload to the cloud, so I am still unable to try it. What I have done which is go through the process to make things work, here is where issues are.

If you go into any apple store or talk to one of their "Genius'" they will tell you if you have multiple people in your family using items to set up different icloud accounts to personalize your settings to you, well the new photos app goes against this and makes you use the same icloud account so the photos can sync together, rendering your personalized settings gone.
Instead of making it simple in the icloud settings and letting photos sync under something other than only the "main" icloud login that you have to be on, you could set up an icloud account strictly for your photos.
Now when I message someone it will come up with a picture of my wife or if I change it to me, she will have the same issue. Contacts, backups other problems all because we have to use the same icloud login.

How did this not get figured out in Beta testing, they are going against what they tell you when you buy items for family members.

2nd complaint, (upset about, but not as much as first)
Faces - haven't had a chance to try yet (still waiting on upload to complete)
Why can't they sync with each other. From what I read on the internet they do not sync, neither does the most recent upload folder.
I have 3 macbooks along with 2 iphones and an ipad. It is a pain to go through 30,000 photos 3 times to identify faces.

Sorry this is so long.

No, the new photos app does not "make" you use the same iCloud Account. The "Genius" are correct, you need to have separate iCloud Accounts. How to use Photos with the current setup is a separate issue you need to address. But you do not want to create more problems because of it.

I recommend you ask a different question of the "Genius" at Apple. How is the best way to Share my Photos between others in my family who have separate iCloud Accounts?

However, I do agree with you that the situation is not ideal and I do not expect you will be happy with the answers you get. But no way would I want to share the same iCloud Account with my wife.

Of course you can use Shared Album's to share Photos but to me this is not a good solution. I have considered creating a 3rd iCloud Account for Shared Stuff but I am hoping for a better solution from Apple. But if no better Sharing Solution is provided then I may look for other options to Share a "Master" Photo Library.

Also, on your Faces comment. 100% agree, they need to sync everything between devices that share the same iCloud Account. Really hope they provide more features SOON.

problems and feature with new photo app

I was part of the Beta test of Photos and had sync issues. I hoped they would resolve with the final but they didn't. I ended up with some duplicates and lots of pics that refused to sync over at all. I deleted everything and tried multiple times. I really don't like the way they implemented "faces". Its just to awkward and cumbersome to use. They removed the ability to add "places" and some of the pics that I ad added places to lost that data in the transition. I have about 250 GB of pics but did my testing on my Mac Air with only 2 GB. Based on the performance hits (it reviewed the sync status overtime I booted up)_, I can't imagine what would happen with 250 GB of pics. I like the idea of storing in the cloud, but since there is not the ability to selectively include only certain folders for syncing and Apple's pricing for iCloud, my main library will never be in iCloud. I also would miss many of the features in Aperture for photo editing. And some of the features in Photo are normally hidden. You can have them show, but they disappear everything you reopen and you have to add them back again.

Photo will work for people with a smaller library and who do minimal editing and like to use filters on their pics. For any real photographer, they are going to want something with more functionality.

My biggest hassle right now is having multiple iPhoto libraries without a way to consolidate them.

Does the Photos app have the ability to import and consolidate multiple iPhoto libraries into the new app?

Yes it will do the primary one and you import the other ones manually. I think I recall doing this when the beta was released.
