I didn't have any problems with 10.3.6, so I'll probably be installing this update right away. I wonder how many more updates there will be for Panther, with Tiger coming and all? Hmm, probably quite a few since Tiger won't be out until the end of June to fulfill Jobs's promise of "first half of 2005"... we'll be at 10.3.12 by then... :p ;)

Any update is good in my books.
I have read about certain problems with updates but i have experienced none on my old ibook, my bro's G4 imac or my new imac G5 so i will be updating a.s.a.p and just enjoying!

Yip. Done that and with a battery life of 36 minutes I could probably recalibrate about ten times a day. Also did the power reset thing which involves pressing lots of buttons all at the same time. Up till 10.3.6 I could pop downstairs while the Mrs was engrossed in her favourite brainwave flattening TV soap and browse, stream iTunes and even play around with PhotoShop for an hour and still be in the black batterywise on my return to the living room.

It sounds like you have the notorious Finder 100% CPU usage bug. In this scenario, if you open up activity monitor and sort by CPU usage you should see that Finder is taking up every free cycle. Since this clocks the CPU to full speed, it eats battery like crazy. Another symptom of this is you might notice that your Powerbook is REAL hot all the time while you're using it. I had the same problem with battery life suddenly dropping out to nothing. I have the MenuMeters app installed and noticed that my CPU usage was 100% so I dug in and found finder to be the culprit, and after some digging on the Apple support forums, found that several people had the same issue. Relaunching Finder would fix it temporarily, but it turned out to be related to an image file I had on my desktop. Apparently there is some problem with Finder if you have "Show details" turned on, when it tries to read a JPG with a damaged header, it would hit a loop and freak out. I deleted the jpg and my CPU usage went back to normal and battery life went right back to normal after a reboot. Perma-fix, turn off show item details in finder options, and give it the old reboot.

Hope that helps!

ByHost

I had read it somewhere that Apple would be implementing a automatic ByHost solution in 10.3.7. So that when you create a build you don't need a server to have the local machine identify itself as the MAC address to be used for .plist files already in the ByHost folder. There are scripts and ways of fixing the ByHost folder. But having a default of use the local MAC address info would be a nice touch. Anyone heard anything on this?

10.3.7 awesome!

Just wanted to let any anxious Panther users know that I tested a newer 10.3.7 build (7s210) and it worked really well! My frame rates went up noticeably in WoW, and the build I was running didn't even have the updated grahpics drivers! I cannot wait until 10.3.7 is released, I am relatively positive everyone (especially those with newer graphics cards) will see a great boost in performance! :

Appleinsider hinted that Safari 1.3 isn't too far away.

Then I can almost count on it not coming true :p!

Apple Insider has become the new MOSR :( . Well, I trust them more about software rumors than hardware rumors.

I'm another ProTooler who hasn't gone up to 10.3.6 but my main hope for this update is iSync support for the Nokia 7610. I can't help but see that there is no mention of an iSync update but it's driving me and a whole bunch of other Nokia users insane. I just got my iCal update and that seems to be fine, now lets go for iSync Apple :(

actually, if this turns out to be true, this will be a quick turnaround for an update. Usually they take a little longer than 3~4 weeks to shove one out the door.

Considering all the troubles 10.3.6 created it's no wonder Apple are trying to get this update out.

Let's hope they got it right this time.

I can with other apps, it's just finder ... really odd! ohh wait, and photoshop has the same problem...

In Photoshop the command to show all Channels is "Apple + ~" so it looks like its not doing anything when you hit the keys.

In System Prefs I change the switch window command to "Control + ~" which gets rid of the issue. You could probably do it the other way and switch the photoshop command to "Control + ~" but that will only work if you have CS.

edit:
This doesn't really solve your problem, your problem seems to be OS specific.

GOOD because the .6 messed up the audio in mine...everytime i close my pb the speakers are distored, and have to close it and open it again  it happened on .5 but only like 2x.....

We're running out of numbers - Tiger here we come.

maybe some day, but not very soon. there's nothing wrong with a 10.3.123456789 because the os version is NOT A DECIMAL NUMBER, but instead ten-dot-majornumber-dot-minornumber

yay enhanced firewire support..

i surely hope they mean FIXED firewire support, giving us the stability of jaguar firewire. so far the only panther release that has had "working" firewire implementation (i mean, reliable enough for pro audio work) has been the 10.3.4 which is still widely being used, just because of that one little thing.

Apple has certainly missed another Tuesday update. If not next Tuesday, then we may have to wait until after Christmas.

Well that was quick. 10.3.6 can't have been all that

I still haven't gone to 10.3.6 myself, I'll leave it a week or so an then maybe go to 10.3.7 if it's OK ;)
