That said, Windows 7 does look amazing. Quit defending Vista, you are doing it poorly and no one, not even Microsoft's marketing department, think Vista is worth defending.
I never "bragged" about running Vista on hardware from 2004 and 2006. It's just a fact. I have two computers from 2004 that run Vista fine. End of story.

I can defend any operating system I want for any reason I want, just like you can. If I wanted to give reasons why I feel that Mac OS 9 is far superior to Leopard, for example, than I will. And if you think I'm a troll, Windows fanboy, evil person, etc. than so be it.

+1. had microsoft waited even 1 more year, for both development of software/drivers as well as general hardware improvement, we may have seen a MUCH different deal.

Windows 7 IS vista, improved, because of the bad image vista has they HAD to move on to their "next" OS.

Apple didnt create the bad vista image, the reviews and users did that, coupled with the DISASTER that was "Vista capable" crap that MS tried to pull.

Apple has been aggressively attacking Windows for the past 15 years without a hint of success with anyone but the devoted Mac nerds. To believe that Vista's failure is in ANY way related to Apple's bashing is ludicrous. Vista is the worst OS MS released. Period.

I'd argue otherwise. 7, by all accounts, seems to be a knockout. I personally consider it Vista seeing as it IS the same kernel, they just fixed some problems and HAD to put a new name on it.

No, the worst Windows OS is Windows ME. Without question. There was literally NO reason to use Windows ME, and it actually broke legacy support by removing real-mode DOS. Vista, while not universally loved, is still a positive step forward. Windows ME was a literal step backward.

As much as I actually like the improvements Microsoft is making on it's OS's, I really wish they would step away from the registry and .dll system, which are responsible for a large portion of their problems. Will Windows 7 be better and more lightweight than Vista? I'm sure it will be better, and lead is more lightweight than Vista, but how much better is yet to be determined (let's see some tests with i7 chips and triple channel memory).

On a side note, does anyone know how difficult it would be to install Windows 7 on a MBP with Boot Camp? Drivers would probably be difficult no?

Installing Windows 7 via Boot Camp is extremely easy. You just set up Boot Camp like you always do, insert your Windows 7 DVD into your computer and then reboot. Install Windows 7 like usual (Boot Camp just assumes it's Vista) and then run the drivers found on the Leopard DVD. I incorrectly thought Boot Camp only supports 32-bit, but it doesn't. The drivers will work because anything that works on Vista works on 7.

Anyway, once more Windows developers start taking advantage of the .NET framework, which doesn't touch the Registry, you'll be seeing less and less dependence on it.

How many vista bashers have actually USED it? I have to use both OSX and Vista 64 as a result of work. Vista 64 is far faster for me, though to be fair I'm using Vista on a desktop w/8 gigs of ram(core2duo 2.4 ghz or so with mild overclocking) and my OSX is on a macbook white 2.4 with 4 gigs of ram. However....never had vista crash once, everything I do is instantaneous and it zips along faster than any OSX installation I have ever seen. It's a remarkable system, on fairly modest hardware.

The OS wars are so short sighted, it's more than a bit absurd. Both OS's are very good. Can that be accepted by some people? Which platform allows you to work the way you need too? That should determine your choice. It's why I have both and it's why I am able to like both.

Cool, so I'm tempted to try both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and I don't want to lose my current Vista partition, is it possible to install Windows 7 on a third (or fourth) partition that's created outside of Boot Camp?

Scratch that answered my own question: http://refit.sourceforge.net/

Well something like 50% of all people who purchase new Mac are "switchers" according to Apple. I guess its debatable if thats from Apple attacking MS or just MS's products sucking so badly.

I don't think we're trying to say that Apple's commercials have had no influence...I'm pretty sure that's the point of an "ad" but it's ludicrous to say that Apple's trash talking its way to success. Yes 50% of new mac users are converts, but 50% of what? There's a reason companies only use percentages or only use numbers to make themselves sound good, because without both you have no perspective. The market share that Apple has gained isn't ground breaking, and that which they have gained isn't solely from the commercials. Really people, drop it.

Are we really in a position to comment on what Windows 7 is or is not yet as it hasn't had a full release? I'm no expert so don't bash me, but from what I know it has improved its demand on physical memory, which was a considerable flaw in the Vista OS. Even though I'm a Mac user I will always give any OS a chance to prove itself. I gave Vista a chance...it just turned out to be woeful.

Win7 is ok ... takes a little while to get past that deep seated hatred of vista as when you 1st boot it you can be like "hey its tarted up vista"

But it IS a decent update but Vista was my final MS straw having been just the worst thing ever (pre-inst on lappy and STILL doesn't work)

. The drivers will work because anything that works on Vista works on 7.

Except Macdrive for one. Although you can persuade it to run on the 64 bit version. If you have the 32 bit version of Windows 7 then you are SOL until Mediafour updates it.

Hey guys, check this out:

What do you suppose "Remote Install OS X" is? Or is this something having to do with being a build?

No. My computer with Tiger has that, it is to use your own disk drive to install OS X on a Macbook Air

I have used XP 32 and 64 bit, Vista 32 and 64 bit and W7 64 bit along with 10.1,2,3,4,5.

Vista is THE WORST operating system I have EVER had the displeasure of using.

My current university fix case list stands at:
Mac OS X: 0
Windows XP: 4
Windows Vista: 13
Windows 7: 0 (Well seeing as im the only one with it installed.)

I use them side by side, and XP32/W7/OS X on the same laptop.

Vista, does actually, suck.
Glad I didn't shell out for it.
W7 is a nice improvement and looks very pretty. However I shall wait till its released for my final verdict on what operating system will grace my MP/MBP later this year...

i NHAVE WINDOWS 7 but mack is better since its metal am anodized and good so windows laptop is broken as of 5 hours ago. i dropped it and the corner is smashed... if only it was metal

oh im running along with the windows 7 man its cool but ie8 comes with it and suckes butoooox. Get fireing foxes
