Great news. I really long for this fix. I need every minute I can get. I´ve notice a serious drop of more than 40 minutes on my brand new Retina Macbook.
Can´t wait.
Can´t wait.
I seriously don't hope this means that I go back to the horrible battery life I had in OS X Lion. It could hold about 2 hours, but after upgrading to Mountain Lion, it is back on 6-7 hours as before Lion. I would be devastated if the battery life decreases again![]()
VLC has lots of sound problems since Lion and they reported that it is Apple's fault. Maybe because it is open-source?
I also own a rMBP and I have issues with sound in VLC since Lion and also with my former 17" quad-core Macbook Pro, even when after some Lion update I completely lost sound (I had to reinstall the full OS from scratch).
Those popping sounds you mentioned are most likely the same bug, but not so bad as some of us have. Listen to the open mic recording I made thats attached to hear it.
When I installed a Vertex 3 SSD into my MacBook, it halved the battery life.
Still love it though....
Never had to reinstall the OS here, and never had problems, even with VLC. Currently using 2.0.3 but I always stay updated. There must be some unifying factor for these issues since we both have rMBPs. I also had no issues under Lion. What media sources are you using with VLC? Most of mine are MKV containers with some MPEGish/AAC guts.
My popping most certainly was not from a bug. It's the result of using an unprotected power source with an amped system. If you have an amped speaker set plugged into a circuit that's at capacity or poorly wired you'll get voltage drops when heavy equipment is used (vacuum cleaner, microwave), or if it's bad enough (mine), a small fan will cause pops upon starting and stopping.
