New Retina Disply MBP with 10.8.1 very good battery life.

I seriously don't hope this means that I go back to the horrible battery life I had in OS X Lion. It could hold about 2 hours, but after upgrading to Mountain Lion, it is back on 6-7 hours as before Lion. I would be devastated if the battery life decreases again:mad:

Agree
I am one who had horrid battery life with Lion on my late model 2008MBP 15"
Last night, used my brand new Retina display MBP 15' without power cord and had 51% of power left after 3.5 to 4 hours. I was ecstatic!
So if 10.8.2 brings even better power management ,yippee.
I don't want to see a deterioration with 10.8.2

VLC has lots of sound problems since Lion and they reported that it is Apple's fault. Maybe because it is open-source?

I also own a rMBP and I have issues with sound in VLC since Lion and also with my former 17" quad-core Macbook Pro, even when after some Lion update I completely lost sound (I had to reinstall the full OS from scratch).

Never had to reinstall the OS here, and never had problems, even with VLC. Currently using 2.0.3 but I always stay updated. There must be some unifying factor for these issues since we both have rMBPs. I also had no issues under Lion. What media sources are you using with VLC? Most of mine are MKV containers with some MPEGish/AAC guts.

Those popping sounds you mentioned are most likely the same bug, but not so bad as some of us have. Listen to the open mic recording I made thats attached to hear it.

My popping most certainly was not from a bug. It's the result of using an unprotected power source with an amped system. If you have an amped speaker set plugged into a circuit that's at capacity or poorly wired you'll get voltage drops when heavy equipment is used (vacuum cleaner, microwave), or if it's bad enough (mine), a small fan will cause pops upon starting and stopping.

When I installed a Vertex 3 SSD into my MacBook, it halved the battery life.

Still love it though....

I got a vertex 4 in my mini, OWC seems to build a pretty nice ssd. don't think I could go back to an HDD no matter how much battery it saved :p

Optical out with S/PDIF output in VLC.The oteher audio issues regarding reinstallation were also reported at that time. Good for you ya had no prob. You're time will come ;p

I would of thought something with moving parts used more power then something that has no moving parts.
