Yesss!!! I noticed my battery life was greatly reduced. Happy to read about a update to fix the problem. Well done Apple!

Great! Now fix "Notes"!

This sounds just great! Now, if they can also put a "Find" function into the "Notes" app, I'll be truly happy with Mountain Lion! Ok, let me clarify that, yes, there is a "Search" box, but it only shows you the notes which contain the string. There's no way to search inside of a particular note. I keep having to Copy/Paste it into a Textedit window just to find what I want!

So, can you imagine what could go wrong with closed betas?
I for instance can't turn off my rMBP display while on a secondary monitor without many complicated tricks. Also, there's a bug with NTFS drivers that have messed up my Macs for a long time.
It is all about solving the most common bugs before release, not all. Thus having more time to fix the least common ones.

The bug we've been having is pretty common. I was just pointing out, the idea that Windows 8 is bug free is pretty... wrong. And Enterprises usually don't go for the open betas, which is usually where all of the huge problems come into play.

I haven't had any issues with Mountain Lion... even my battery performs fine. I think this is, issue wise, the best release of Mac OS X I've seen in a long time.

Am I reading this right that a SSD has a shorter battery life then a HDD? I would of thought something with moving parts used more power then something that has no moving parts.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I've been told that SSDs generate less heat and use less electricity, and it makes sense because they don't have motors.

And "basic functionality" is all you get with Windows, so perfect! I think we can now all agree that Windows is empirically better than OSX

Yeah, Windows newbie dont need to learn how to use Spotlight, don't need to understand how to edit photo in Preview, coz Windows Update is kissing their asses everyday.

I wonder why most of my friends turned their laptop into paper weight after college if many people argues their PC laptops are better than a Mac? You should go and kick their asses than.

Apple are you listening. Far too many products - hardware and software are being released that clearly need months more development testing. You mojo will be lost sooner rather than later if this continues.

I wonder what the iPhone 5 has wrong with it......

I, too, believe a lot of emphasis is being placed in two key areas:
1) hardware
2) applications

More effort could be put into core operating system enhancements. The Finder is vastly improved in terms of performance over early versions of OS X, but I feel it's still overly neglected. Apple should be refining Finder weekly, but instead they operate on a yearly basis. :/

Hopefully they also fix the problem where the menu bar freezes. Hovering my pointer above the frozen menu bar gives me the spinning wheel. The clock stops and can be anywhere from hours to days behind until I reboot. Right now it's stuck at 5.49 PM when it's really 7.18 PM.

You use SSD to put more stress on the CPU, this is how it drives up fans and power consumption of the CPU, therefore battery life would not bump too much.

My old 13" is running on the original HDD, and yesterday I used it straight for 7.5 hrs with 20% battery left.

It seems some have 10.8.2 and some do not...Are you all beta testing or something? Not familiar with how this works for Mac updates. My Macbook Pro dies in about 2 hrs with 10.8.1 :(

Suddenly it becomes very clear to me, why the "remaining battery time" wasn't shown anymore in the menu bar as it was possible in 10.6.8 ... - What a cheap trick! - Does 10.8.2 also finally give us back the remaining battery time in hh:mm in the menubar?

you just have to click on the battery to see that time remaining no tricks

Clicking the battery is still one more step than you had to do in 10.6.8, so it is kind of a cheap trick on Apples part to "hide" the time remaining, at least from plain view.

I could definitely say that the OS controls Processor Speed and performance depending on the amount of battery left.
While playing Starcraft, the game suddenly became very laggy, to the point of becoming almost unplayable. I had to run and get the charger, and as soon as I plugged it in, performance went back to normal.

Using an SSD takes more CPU time? I don't see why it would do that. As for your 13", please stop making fun of my MacBook that only lasts 2 hours maximum (everything disabled and minimum usage) :(

This is true. My MacBook is very slow when the battery gets low.

Don't believe the hype. Nothing will change battery wise.

Where are your test results?

Why would you think that? Once the disk is spinning, it takes next to no power to keep it going. Friction is near nonexistant and the tracking arm is so light it almost moves by itself. SSDs have millions of electrical paths that need to continually need to switch. When you have millions of switched compared to two simple parts, the millions adds up to more than the two.

Thank you for the explanation.

So, just installed the latest beta. Battery's reporting 4:31 at 95% charge. Slight improvement from the original 3 hours (from 8.0). Also, computer seems quieter, fans-wise.

sweet I'm already getting good battery life on my macbook air with 10.8.1. Maybe 5 hours before it reaches 20%. I don't go below 20% to avoid damaging the battery. I hope that the update can bring it to 6 hours.

Wow!! This makes so much sense now... I upgraded to mountain lion AND parallels 8 at the same time. I BLAMED parallels 8 and it has been driving me crazy. Darn you Apple. lol Fix it!! haha

Finally and long over due. My MacBook Air just isn't where it used to be in terms of battery life, and I'm hoping that it will bring it back!
