Yesss!!! I noticed my battery life was greatly reduced. Happy to read about a update to fix the problem. Well done Apple!
So, can you imagine what could go wrong with closed betas?
I for instance can't turn off my rMBP display while on a secondary monitor without many complicated tricks. Also, there's a bug with NTFS drivers that have messed up my Macs for a long time.
It is all about solving the most common bugs before release, not all. Thus having more time to fix the least common ones.
More efficient power management. How come HDD seems to drain the battery less than SSD?
Good p0rn sites support HTML5 video elements (H.264 hardware accelerated decoding on OS X).i have been using 10.8.2 for about a week now and i can confirm that my battery life is better. i just wish all the flash p0rn sites didnt kill my battery.![]()
Am I reading this right that a SSD has a shorter battery life then a HDD? I would of thought something with moving parts used more power then something that has no moving parts.![]()
And "basic functionality" is all you get with Windows, so perfect! I think we can now all agree that Windows is empirically better than OSX
Apple are you listening. Far too many products - hardware and software are being released that clearly need months more development testing. You mojo will be lost sooner rather than later if this continues.
I wonder what the iPhone 5 has wrong with it......
This is exactly what I was thinking. I've been told that SSDs generate less heat and use less electricity, and it makes sense because they don't have motors.
Suddenly it becomes very clear to me, why the "remaining battery time" wasn't shown anymore in the menu bar as it was possible in 10.6.8 ... - What a cheap trick! - Does 10.8.2 also finally give us back the remaining battery time in hh:mm in the menubar?
you just have to click on the battery to see that time remaining no tricks
More efficient power management.
You use SSD to put more stress on the CPU, this is how it drives up fans and power consumption of the CPU, therefore battery life would not bump too much.
My old 13" is running on the original HDD, and yesterday I used it straight for 7.5 hrs with 20% battery left.
I could definitely say that the OS controls Processor Speed and performance depending on the amount of battery left.
While playing Starcraft, the game suddenly became very laggy, to the point of becoming almost unplayable. I had to run and get the charger, and as soon as I plugged it in, performance went back to normal.
Don't believe the hype. Nothing will change battery wise.
Why would you think that? Once the disk is spinning, it takes next to no power to keep it going. Friction is near nonexistant and the tracking arm is so light it almost moves by itself. SSDs have millions of electrical paths that need to continually need to switch. When you have millions of switched compared to two simple parts, the millions adds up to more than the two.
