Well they are sure bringing in maps and maybe siri, tough their usefulness on a computer OS is beyond me. Sure I lug around my 2009 13 inch MBP everywhere I go, but for directions I just pull out my iphone.

Which brings me to my next point, they will setup feature blocks based on hardware just like they did for ML, I am still upset I cannot use powernap, even tough I have an SSD, or the fact I cant use airplay, even tough I am able to with third party apps.

The only reason I am upgrading is if they make OSX more stable, since my pro took a huge performance hit and freezes every now and then.

I know its past time I upgraded my machine (will do when OS 11 lands), I just want them to relase features that are compatible with those of us with older hardware

ZFS would be cool. It's what my NAS uses.

One of the 'draws' to OSX has always been their adoption of modern technologies, wheras Windows can take a decade or more to update things like the filesystem, and even THEN they only 'update' it to something that doesn't really keep up with anything else around. Linux guys (and I'm one of them!) never seem to have a problem updating an OS with new file systems, major new components, etc., every couple of years. Apple could do it!

There's also some cool new file systems being developed by Samsung and some others that is optimized for flash memory and NAND architecture. I imagine with Apples move to all-flash architecture in all of their products (I imagine in a few years even their workstation computers like the Mac Pro will have an SSD standard), that would make a lot of sense...

what about this instead.
fusio-io-flash-ssdalloc-memory-ram

It's not like Apple and Fusio-io don't have contacts.

What if the next level of Fusion Drive, fused the Memory and Storage System?
Regular Memory on one memory bus, NAND memory on another (maybe PCIe) then some sort of bulk slow storage all managed by Core Storage.

Top things I want to see
Siri
FaceTime with multiple people
iWork with Google Doc features
iBooks
Game Center to be more like Steam
iCloud improvements

I would LOVE Apple to add this feature! It would be soooo useful! I doubt it will happen though, knowing how Apple like to keep users in their own cloud. It might happen though... one day

That's not... really anything. That's not a file system, or even an SSD. It's basically a beefed up page file.

What I'm referring to is a file system optimized for flash memory which would make computers with SSD's even faster. These things exist. Flash memory works differently than spinning drives but all major file systems currently were designed with spinning drives in mine. A file system is part of the OS.

That link has nothing to do with a file system, or the OS. That's a piece of hardware for desktop computers perhaps. It's neat I guess, but not really along the lines of OS X 10.9 features...

You say that's like it's a bad thing.
I mean we had computers with OS's before we had filesystems.
We needed a filesystem because RAM is volatile, once we had it then we found ways to fill all the space it could give us, like cupboards and Libraries before it.

As you say Flash works differently, so why contain behind spinning disk systems?

The link is for hardware to support software. The software being a Memory Allocation system that can work with non-volatile memory so that it can be used as RAM. Add that to say the LLVM complier chain and things look interesting. Yet it's likely that isn't that simple and would need to part of .1 update like OS X 10.9. but maybe .10 or .11 is more likely. Either way the OS is there to help the next gen. hardware happen.

LLVM knows how long an object needs to live for. So could work out if its a long term object or a short term one. Pick between a much small DRAM Cache or the Long term NAND memory. Think of what that does to the functions you want and SSD filesystem to provide. No filesystem bottleneck at all fast with power savings to boot. As for booting well almost a thing of the past. Even massive applications would open in factions of seconds instead of minutes.

As they noted NAND is one tenth the cost of DRAM, lower power and lower capacity to volume. So we could be seeing MacBookPros with half a terabyte of NAND-RAM. I could still see the MacPro having both volatile and non-volatile RAM.

Get the filesystem out of my way, to me would be better. Would also free the system to work with any filesystem as bulk storage and backup.

I mainly want the option of Spaces/Expose as it was in Snow Leopard, and a better Full Screen mode that doesn't make multiple monitors nearly useless.

Why do you think they won't do it? maybe in OS 11 or whatever comes after 10.9. They had it in beta once during the 10.5 beta, so they must know it is time for an upgrade sooner or later.

Apple are trying to do away the with filesystem. Why bother upgrading it?

Apple wants users out of the file system, but files need to be stored right? Apps that use the files need to know where they are etc. Why not use a modern robust system instead of an upgraded version of a system from the 80's?

No. No it doesn't!

It actualky makes sense from Apple's POV. Think about this, wouldn't they just love to make an ios experience for OS X? That means no terminal on top of removal of finder.

It will happen. Maybe sooner than we think. MUHAHAHAMUHAHAHHAHAHEHEHEHEHEHEHAHAH.

You too can treat your computer like your stove. Just turn it on without any understanding of how anything works.

It would be useful for, say I wanted to play a song in iTunes but didn't want to leave the app I was in, or wanted to set a timer/alarm/reminder as for some people it is quicker with Siri. It would also be good from an advertising perspective (eg: buy this; it's got Siri!!! XD), and is an easy gimmick to get people to upgrade their system.

There is no reason they wouldn't add it.

Don't know if this has been brought up, but I expect the system to automatically start up in Launchpad and it may even replace the Desktop as the default environment (much like Metro in Windows 8). If they do it, they will have to make it significantly more functional, of course and I don't know how I would react to it, because currently I use Launchpad pretty much just for show when somebody's looking (shallow, I know) and I'm completely content with using the Dock and the Applications stack therein. Ever since it first appeared in Lion, the Launchpad has been screaming longer-term plans, so we'll see how it evolves.

Scaling fonts. I am still irritated at how comically small text appears on my 27” iMac.

The ability for safari to remember zoomed settings.

If I cancel a download in safari, please auto-delete the incomplete file.

Let full-screen mode play nice with multiple displays. And a way to disable the macbook's display without having to enter clamshell mode.

Ability to change settings like screenshot destination without having to go through terminal.

I am ready to jump ship from office for Mac 2011 to iWork's. Just release iWork's 2013, please.

Let iCloud work with more apps (a goodreader option for the Mac would be nice).

Can't really think of what needs to be radically changed in OSX. It is really the ironing out of all the minor kinks that I would like to see.

Sometimes I wish that apple could wait 3 years and then do something huge like os x 10.5 leopard. I really liked how many new things there were. How different it felt with the transparent menu bar, reflective dock, and polished up windows. I wish apple could redesign things so they look better. I personally liked the dark gray windows in leopard and then snow leopard made it look yellowed to me, which I don't like.

Just don't upgrade for 3 years.

Wasn't there some rumor about them working on an overhaul for iWork and iLife? I'd much rather see those than any of this maps and Siri BS.
