I'd say a metal go a Mac is the biggest sleeper hit - improved Adobe CC performance - Photoshop, Illustrator - will be enjoyed by a lot of users. Hopefully more apps to come.

I'm getting so tired of not being able to only delete history without deleting all website data. I don't know why Apple has not fixed this stupid design issue.
Someone suggested going into show history and doing it there but this way also deletes everything.
Come on, Apple, you're really slipping when it comes to user experience

I’ll have another go today and see if I can help.

I second this! So annoying - Although recently fixed having to try and remember the username for MacRumors meant I had to reset it every week..

OS X is really solid, but one thing that needs serious innovation is the finder. There must be some way to better manage files. Its really clumsy

A shame Ars Technica's John Siracusa won't be writing a 20+ page review anymore…The one and only true review.

This! If we ever had to abandon the Internet and had to decide which pages to save for future generations... those pages for sure were among them!

Not to mention the Finder's RAM usage slowly bloats to hundreds of megabytes (at one point in history I had it at over a gig of RAM), and it takes the "ls" command a fraction of the time to look up far more information than it does for the Finder to look up hardly more than the file and folder names and modification dates. It really needs a speed boost...

In regard to the Apple Mail can someone please explain to me the logic behind Apple's decision to not sync unread messages between iOS devices? For instance, when I read an email on my iPhone the message still shows as unread on the Mail app badge icon until I open the app and it "updates"... I never see anyone complain about this and its the most annoying "feature" of Apple mail for years now

Unbelievable... Even the 10.11, Mail still has issues so far....

That's 3 major OS's in a row.. well done Apple,, for the longest running bug.

But now, 30 seconds have passed, and all the "wow" factor has calmed down, we can get back to work.

I just gotta say one thing : "Where did u go wrong"

See, for me, I DON"T want all that tighter integration with everything... I still some want some choice still, and Yosemite still provides that choice.

Please please please
(1) let us close windows directly from Mission Control;
(2) let let Spotlight use the same default search engine as Safari;
(3) provide a way to make webmail services searchable with Spotlight

Thank you Apple.

Number 3 is practically impossible without violating all sorts of privacy and security issues, how would you imagine this to work?

Use Mail to download the emails and Spotlight will index it. Other email clients might let you index your emails as well.

Agree with 1 and 2 but for 2, it shouldn't be an option in Safari, it should be in option in Spotlight Prefs to use it globally as you might not use Safari as the default browser and Spotlight is not likely to grab the pref from the other browsers.

I frequently just want to work with a single window or a couple of different windows in different apps at the same time, but minimize visual distractions on the screen without necessarily filling the screen with the app window. To help me with that, I have an app called Isolator that will overlay any color you choose at any opacity level on everything behind the application that's in focus. It's pretty old but still works with Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan. Just google "download isolator willmore" to find it. The remaining thing that helps me size windows the way I want is the SizeWell SIMBL plugin, which amazingly still works with Mavericks, Yosemite and El Capitan also.

Since you seem to pay attention to these things... Have you by any chance come across any option for "sticky edges" on multimonitor setups? (like for example Ubuntu and Synergy have, for example). I mean the capability of having the mouse cursor stay inside of a monitor; it will only cross the monitor's edge if moved fast enough, or if it "pushes against it" for some time, or if a key is held down, etc.

In Yosemite I have only been able to find one paid app to do something like that.

I also wish they would change the dayglo colors for the close, re-size, shrink buttons on each window-burns my retina and so childish looking

So the gist is that it's:

1> As ugly as ever (i.e. like Yosemite) so Ives and crew learned almost nothing from all then negative feedback (and the review called it Yosemite "lauded" and I'd like to know by whom given it's 50% (F) rating online by real people (not bribed critics). I can see the flat stoplight buttons are still there (almost a deal killer on its own as the "gem" ones were iconic and it was a virtual crime to remove/change them from OSX, IMO).

2> Split screen "snapping" is worthless (WTF uses full screen anyway? I'd never get anything done. "Windows" exist for a reason, but a "snap" button to make them sit along-side each other quickly would be handy, IMO).

3> Apple has spent 90% of its effort on "Apps" within OSX rather than on OSX itself (the other 9% being Metal and 1% on everything else). Do we really need a "major" update to OSX now just to get a new version of Safari??? REALLY?????? You can be sure that you will NOT get any more updates to Safari AFTER its release (The #1 reason to use Firefox and Thunderbird instead).

With Metal, I was thinking of giving El Capitain a try. After reading this review, I'm having second thoughts. This is just Yosemite V2.0.

Really like Yosemite. Best OS X to date, as far as I'm concerned. Glad El Capitan is building upon this experience in a good way!

I agree. I love Yosemite too. It's been the best user experience for me since Apple introduced MacOS X a decade ago. I am happy to know that El Capitan is going to improve that even further. Can't wait till I install the official release (I am avoiding the Beta for now).

Isolator still working for you on the latest build of El Capitan? I ask because I'm finding it isn't working for me, as of build 15A262e. I would really hate to lose it. It also hasn't been updated in YEARS, so I guess it's just a matter of time before a system update breaks it completely. Have you seen any good alternatives?

It was working early on but for several betas it has been getting stuck just above the level of the desktop except when launching a new application. Once I navigate away from the new application it goes back to being stuck just above the desktop, behind all applications. This makes it fairly useless. I assume this is what you're experiencing.

I have resorted to a combination of two apps. One is another old app I used to use called Backdrop. It's available on the App Store. You have to tab into it manually just like with any other application. But with Backdrop you can choose a background image if you don't just want a color as a background.

Combine this with an app called Hocus Focus (from hocusfoc.us, you might need to search "download hocus focus houdini" for the right link to show up). This hangs around hiding any app windows that don't have the focus. The result is... different... from just using Isolator. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it works better than expected for me so far. Just remember to tell Hocus Focus not to hide Backdrop.

I still want to see Isolator updated, but the developer may need some encouragement. I suggest clicking the link in the About dialog to send the developer a monetary token of gratitude, as well as emailing bdeb at willmore dot eu to tell him how much you'll miss using Isolator. I have done the same in the past.

Many of you are seriously so nit-picky it's really a wonder your not exclusively window users. I'm reading some really good ball complaints here.

Did you honestly expext them to change the design language backwards after a year?

Hmm. That sounds like a lot of work. I really just use Isolater for a few minutes at a time to quickly focus on something, often just to show someone something on one of my work monitors really quickly without them having to hunt around.

I still want to see Isolator updated, but the developer may need some encouragement.
I'll email as you suggest, though at this point it's been a long time. This is such a (seemingly) simple app, I'm really surprised there isn't another good option out there.
