This is just another FLAW in High Sierra.

To be fair to Apple, this hasn't been an issue until the last week or so (with no updates having been installed on the computer) so it would seem to point to an issue or change on the Facebook side. If it was a change on the Facebook side, then there is SOME fault on Apple for not resolving it yet.

Mine was doing the same, tried turning it off and back on but same result. I just left it turned off. I rarely used it anyways. I might turn it back on if it gets fixed later on.

Having the same issue. Tried removing FB account in Internet Accounts. Tried deleting FB items in Keychain. Even tried deleting the "local login" GUID folder. Nothing worked. Would be nice if someone had a solution.

Anyone know what’s going on?

:(

Been happening to me a lot. So annoying cuz I can't open a window above it, hide it or cover it up. Was in Brazil and thought it might be international issues, but still happening back in the USA. Please let me know if you guys find the answer.

Another "Me Too!" post. This really sucks, but I'm sure it is something on the FB side since I don't think anything changed on the Apple side when it started. I was hoping today's update to MacOS 10.13.5 would fix it, but nope.
I've tried wiping the Internet Account for Facebook, and obliterating everything "Facebook" from Keychain to no-avail. I can't use the FB integration on the Mac at all, and had to start just posting things the old-fashioned say via the Web.
What is particularly annoying is Facebook keeps coming back in Internet Accounts- I'm assuming because it is stored in iCloud Keychain. It seems deleting it isn't really deleting it. Oddly- it works fine on my iPhone and iPad.

Same issue in our household. Both Macs having same problem and removing details and taking things out of keychain don't solve the issue.

So the new update for MacOS doesn’t solve this? How infuriating.

Two points of interest:
  1. This isn't only a High Sierra issue. I'm still using Sierra (10.12.6) on my main machine, and I'm having the problem on that.
  2. Interestingly enough, my first experience of this problem was with LinkedIn, not Facebook! I had a couple of days of getting repeated requests to re-enter my LinkedIn password. Eventually they stopped (presumably after LinkedIn fixed the problem at its end), only to be replaced more recently with the Facebook problem (still ongoing).
So, I definitely think the fault is at Facebook's end. I suspect it relates to some recent change in response to GDPR, in that Facebook's messed something up and not figured out how to fix it yet. I.e. I suspect GDPR has prompted the change, but is not the actual cause of the problem.

I am having the same problem (using Sierra) but have not found a solution. Has anyone tried changing anything in the 'Application Support' folder? I did (although i don't remember what i did, and now Flickr's share sheet doesn't work either.

+1 here. It's been a constant issue on my work iMac Pro for a couple of weeks.

Today tried deleting the account from preferences (which I guess propagates to all my macs) and adding it back after a reboot, but nope, still getting the pw prompt. This is getting old.
[doublepost=1528148627][/doublepost]Forgot to mention: FB of course works fine in my browser tab. It just won't authenticate to the system (desired because of calendar integration).

This happens to me when I connect to the internet via a VPN or I get a new IP. Its hassleware - have now removed FB from prefs.

+1 for this occurring sometime after connecting or rather more often, disconnecting from a VPN. I enter my password and b/c of 2-factor authentication, I get a 'wrong password' type of message below the PW field but it's longer and indicates that I'll receive a text message with a code to use as my password. I immediately receive the text, but when I enter it as my PW, it's not accepted, but if I then hit cancel and click on details for my Facebook account, that area will accept the code I received via text. This tends to fix the problem only for a short period of time.

The only fix I've found is to remove Facebook from 'Internet Accounts' in Sys Prefs and when prompted choose delete FB contacts. Then I re-add FB, which generates a new code texted to me which is accepted as my PW. I then give permission to add FB contacts and I'm ok......until the next time I use my VPN. Not worth it to me to go through that everytime, especially when I can use FB in my browser or in Menu Tab Pro (FB Client accessible in the menu bar).

Interesting that I have had zero problems with a 3rd party software app on MacOS regardless of VPN connection status. In fact, I've been using Menu Tab Pro for a couple of years and have never had to re-enter my credentials as far as I can remember.

No official update yet about the issue?

It seems fixed for me, I guess the facebook people or some people did a fix in the background. Anyone who is still having issues, try ‘fixing’ it again, and it may well stick this time. Best of luck!

Yes, I tried it and it seems High Sierra is now properly holding my Facebook info in rather than constantly pooping it out. Thanks!
[doublepost=1528582645][/doublepost]Spoke too soon. I restarted my Macbook Pro then the Facebook password screen popped up again.

Sorry, I hadn’t tried it after a restart. I’ll do that now and report back.

UPDATE:

No, my Facebook still works. I have 2 factor authentication enabled on my account, maybe this has something to do with it?

Yes, it might be fixed by now. I restarted my High Sierra and it did not ask for the password anymore.

Looks like the reminder is not popping up anymore but the underlying issue is still valid here.
This is how I solved my problem: open System Preferences/Internet Accounts/Facebook, ignore request for password by clicking 'Cancel', click on 'Details', enter password and follow instructions if you have 2-factor auth. like I do, and everything's ok!

This is what I did actually!

Either the issue is no longer happening, OR logging out in and back in (in Safari) fixed the issue for me.

The reason I tried Safari was that I had the same issue (requesting password) for an Outlook.com email address in Mail. I logged into webmail to make sure my password was correct, they had a new terms of service that needed to be clicked through, and voila email adress began working again.

I cannot tell if this was the fix for Facebook, as I didn't reenter my password prior to trying the Safari login/out.

I am having this issue as well.

To be clear: I can log into Facebook itself with Safari without issue. The issue is SOLELY with the "share" extension for OSX. I used to be able to share web pages etc. with Safari or the "share" context menu but now if I try I get a message that I need to log in in System Preferences. If I try to log in, it fails every time with a message "Unable to verify user name or password". All I can do it click cancel.

I have tried deleting FB account from system prefs and re-adding to no avail.
