I have a PPC at the moment, which is only about 6 months old. I'll be missing Leopard, but I think it's way more economical to wait till PPC OS X becomes unavailable, then make my switch to an Intel desktop, with new software, i.e 10.6. I know I'll be "behind" for a while, but it just seems a lot more economical to wait a bit.

i'll definitely be upgrading. not that i have any need to, i'd just prefer to.

iLife and iWork on the other hand, i decided to skip '06 since there wasn't a whole lot new that appealed to me, so basically i'm going to be buying 10.5, iLife '07 and iWork '07 all at the same time next year.

OMG you're going to have a fun weekend when you get those, why not top it off with a new Mac and your set!

I'll get Leopard the day it comes out.

As others have pointed out, you can wait and wait and wait. I like the enjoy the best that Apple has to offer.

Of course, if cost is a limiting factor, it makes sense to skip a generation or two...

I'll be getting it for the home machine (dual G4 1.42) and also for all the Macs at work (6) since they're all still running Panther... but we'll only install it once we've tested a few apps on it on a test machine and probably only when it's 10.5.1 or 10.5.2 or so.

For work, I'm looking for much-improved Finder performance and networking.

I get the feeling it is going to be much more than a mere incremental update. Apple has this almost cocky attitude right now, like it KNOWS it is going to blow people away with what they have to show.

Depends on what's in it. Won't be upgrading my powerbook so if Leopard's worth it for me, I'll upgrade, if not, I'll wait.

Good Point. I can afford Leopard, but think it's more economical to wait. Perhaps if Leopard is WAY better than Tiger with features such as a revamped Finder, I'll upgrade. But, at the moment I just don't see the point of upgrading a 6 month old mac, as I'm perfectly happy with Tiger.

Won't be upgrading my hardware for another year or so, and if 10.5+iLife "07 is included with that Mac hardware then more bonus for me. I stopped buying software purchases for OS X and iLife. Plus 10.5 will be optimized for x86 (32/64-bit) instructions, you can count on that. ;) :D

Plus, I get 50% reimbursed back to me from my work for having the latest HW and SW. :D

Be advised though, that if you DONT buy it as soon as it is available, several little green men in very black suits will come a knockin on your door at approximately 4:39:52.08.004 am on the day following it's release.......

then suddenly no more here you will be

i gave gotten Tiger to replace Panther for my iMac but i have not been upgrading 10.4.X to 10.4.X+1 as soon, but so i need to back to upgrading as soon as it comes out!

When are you all actually expecting Leopard?

I know Steve said around the same time as Vista but it seems Apple is really cutting it close. Are we all assuming that the possible beta to be released at WWDC will be much further along than the first Tiger beta?

It took them from June '04 (1st Dev release) to July '05 (10.4.2 release) to get Tiger quasi-right and it seems like everyone is expecting an August Developer Preview and a January Gold Master for Leopard. :(

Not trying to be pessimistic, just wondering if anyone else has considered this…

I would definatly buy Leopard if I had an Intel mac, but as a PPC user i'll see if its new features justify a purchase.

They've done short releases before. Panther had only a few months from WWDC to shipping, and Jaguar practically shipped a month or so after its WWDC. Seeing a shipping Leopard only a few months after the WWDC preview won't be too surprising, since they'll have had a good year or so to work on the new core features.

At WWDC05, Jobs said Leopard will be here late 2006 early 2007.

My inkling is they will hold it off until early 2007 because Vista was delayed. OSX will get a LOT of coverage if it ships around the same time as Vista, due to the tons of comparison reviews that will be held. It will be built to be a big Apple vs Microsoft thing, and Apple will hold the right cards in that their hardware can run BOTH....

I'll almost certainly getting it but getting it installed on a new Mac (along with iLife 07). It's all money dependent, but I'm saving now!

Yep, I'm in the same boat - my next Mac will come with Leopard pre-installed, however I won't be buying a copy outright.

do you guys think the macbooks will change in the next half a year because I'm thinking of getting one, im not worried about the having leopard on it because i go to university and can get OS X Tiger for $40 CDN so i will expect Leopard to be about the same.
