There is one critical flaw still with this GM release, it won't install on a RAID0 configuration. The installation will start but upon the reboot you'll meet the question mark and no finalising of the installation like with all the DP's so far.

Would seem horrendous if Apple decides to make the final version of Mac OS X Lion incapable of being installable on RAID configurations.. That will surly piss-off lots, and lots of Mac Pro users.

Indeed it's very unlikely, but Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview's have had their share of BUG's and the DP4 was far from being close to perfect, I have yet to test the GM yet but there might seem like Apple are rushing things here for some reason. But I hope I'm mistaken and that Lion GM proves to be stable and without any major bugs.

Works fine for me.

went through ten pages but no answer. perfectly safe to upgrade to GM from beta 4? no wipe or anything. just upgrading.

Worked fine on my MacBook Air. I think Apple's "warning" about not being able to upgrade was more a pre-caution just in case there was some major glitch in the installer and they could just write it off.

I sepend on cs5 illustrator and photoshop for work. Can someone who uses these check if they are compatible with this release. Ill upgrade on general release but dont want to wait for bug fixes from adobe if you get my drift
I can't vouch for Illustrator but PSCS5 has been absolutely perfect for me since the very first Lion DP. :) Surprisingly rock solid.

Canon Pixma iP4500 printer drivers on the other hand are completely shot.. If it wasn't for potential driver issues I'd be recommending upgrading to 10.7.0 to everyone I know.

But if you do the dev route it won't show up as purchased in the MAS will it? Won't that mean you can't automatically download it to other computers you have? You'll have to make a external disc with Lion on it right?

Does anybody know the answer to this? I'm wondering as well. If you get it through the dev program will it permanently show up in the mac app store purchased section?

Permanently is a strong word. There are plenty of apps I'd like to remove. It shows:
Mac OS X Lion GM Seed
Mac OS X Lion Server GM Seed
Mac OS X Lion Server Developer Preview 4
Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 4
Mac OS X Developer Preview 3
Mac OS X Lion Server Developer Preview 2
Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview 2
Mac OS X Lion Developer Preview

All of them appear as installable (in the App store) on any system they aren't installed on. Now if I could only get rid of most of them!

In any case, the App Store install process only installs a single application package that can be copied to other systems, so you don't need to download more than once.

Works fine on my test system at work It has 2 60GB SSDs in RAID0 and 2 1TB drives in RAID1

I also love using frontrow it's a nice clean interface that works for me when I'm watching tv in bed. Hope the rest of lion is worth the sacrifice and I'll try to leave apple some feedback as well to try to get them to add it.

With them moving away from the trend of having the Apple remotes be included with the computers, and not having IR sensors in computers, I think Apple has spoken pretty clearly that Front Row is dead to them. They would prefer you to buy an AppleTV to hook up and use AirPlay or iTunes Sharing.

Or curl up with your iPad.

I completely understand why they would go that route, but I liked Front Row too, maybe they'll make it a Mac App Store download.

Wait, Front Row is not in Lion?? How did I not know this already?

I use Front Row every single day to listen to music from my laptop as I work. It's nice because I can see the display from across the room where my computer is. Why on earth have they decided not to include it?

Well I guess my hope of them improving Front Row and giving it an update are dead now.

WTF would they take it out?? Has anyone tried putting it back in?

they shoud at least make it an optional download thru the app store.

Yeah, for people who buy new macs that have Lion on them...

But does the Lion installer actually remove Front Row??? That's just... !!!!expelatives under way!!!!

They left Sherlock alone... even after it didn't have any funtions left.

This is a huge improvement over DP4, and I know people use this line as the old and boring joke, but Safari is blazingly quick ... I cannot believe the speed that web pages are loading at on Lion. I've never seen the progress bar move that quick in my life!

Overall the UI feels responsive and the whole system feels much more efficient and quicker to respond to commands. Very impressed.

That would defeat the purpose of holding back the MBAs wouldn't it? Although that assumes the original rumor was true.

How do you figure that one?

I don't think people have expecations that iMacs and Macbooks that have been out for months would ship with a new OS and would be fine with a download code. The Mac Airs/Mac Mini/Macbook (if it gets updated and not EOL-ed) are new models... they should come up to date. Pushing back a hardware release a few weeks is not a big deal.

Hmmm, anyone have an idea how we are going to do a clean install if it comes through the store?

It seems you would have to clean install Snow Leopard, then run the installer for Lion after. If that Steve Jobs email was real from a post a week or so ago on the main page.

These new Lion technologies sound incredible to me, magical even. I cannot wait to unlock the full potential of my house of Macs by installing OS X Lion onto each and every one of them. Hey Redmond, time to stage your Windows funeral because Apple has just killed your flagship product stone dead.

We're winning!!! We're really winning this time!!!! :apple: :apple: :apple:

Confirmation that Pro Tools 9 is still broken in Lion.

PhotoShop, InDesign, DreamWeaver and Illustrator CS5 have all been fine for me on all of the Lion builds, including now the GM.

Ugh.. no iSync.. no longer able to sync my phone.

I'll be staying on Snow Leopard for a while.

Lion looks more and more unappealing. OSX with the infection of iOS :-(

Oh NO! Just when Microsoft released Office 2011 SP1 to support iSync for synching to iPhone and Apple takes it away?

PS: I thought you had an iPhone?

Shocked...

Has ProTools ever NOT been broken by even the most minor of OS updates? What is it in their program that makes it so fragile?

Does anyone know what happened to the library folder that used to be in the user's documents folder? I don't see it with lion and I saved a bunch of stuff there for privacy reasons.

You, sir, bring up a VERY important issue.

I'd like the ability to "remove" applications that I've previously downloaded from the "Not on this Mac" or "Not on iPhone/iPad" section. Many times we download paid/free apps that we just don't like at all; and instead of endlessly scrolling through them I'd like to permanently remove them. Maybe the Paid apps can stay but the free ones are simply free ~ we can download them at no charge later when their updated unless they become paid.
