10A432 == FAIL

September had 30 days for Apple to polish.
I thought Apple took first impressions seriously.
There was no reason to rush.
People who think "its ok, they'll release patch" make me sad and sick.
Apple, this was not what I imagined when I switched.
This empror is as naked as the last.

Couldn't agree more.

Guys I have a question,

When I receive SL I wanted to do a clean install.
There's one problem , I have used 400 of my 500Gb HD, can I partition my drive containing my MBR, install it on that new partition and then merge my partitions or will it cause trouble.

Thanks

Here's my question regarding services: On this page, http://www.apple.com/macosx/refinements/ it's claiming that you can right click in any app and a services menu will pop up. However, I don't get that with 10A432. I've tried several apps, TextEdit, Safari, Mail, etc and nothing showed up. However, going to the application menu and select Services. Am I missing something?

perhaps the detail that a dev build and the golden master are not always exactly the same. it is possible that Apple changed up a couple of last things and tested them in house and didn't feel it was enough to warrant another developers release or a number change.

That has not been the case since I started receiving beta builds and GMs from Apple dating back to System 7.5, and as such would be highly unlikely.

That's just silly. If changes are made, they change the build number. Do you think they're sneakily fixing bugs and keeping the build number the same so that people who have the dev build won't want to install the official Snow Leopard DVD?

There's just no convincing some people....

I'm sorry I forgot about the and of the world, so Apple pushed Snow Leopard for us to enjoy it for few minutes :D. Apple had plenty of time to make GM not suck and everything, but suddenly they ship it ahead of shedule for some unclear reason. Calculator doesn't work from Spotlight. How cool is that? Every time I reboot SL Service menus I enabled somehow get disabled again. System feels fast and everything, but suddenly without a reason it gets slow and again fast. Leopard was a better experience for me.

I'll go with "cause trouble".

You can do a custom install and preserve only your home directory - which sounds like what you want to do. You have plenty of space available to do this.

Sounds like you would be better able

to make an educated guess than most; so... what do you think, is 10A432 the GM (I'm just curious; I recently became an ADC Member so I obviously haven't had the experiences you have)?

I have a Unibody MacBook.
I know i don't have a tone of RAM.
But i should be able to start in 64Bits if i want to.

Thanks , so I'll just need to click "archive and install" and then click the "Preserve Users and Network Settings option" ...

Afterwards I reinstall my software and delete the "Previous System" - file when back-upped?

Exactly.

AppleWorks, Rosetta.....

Will Snow Leopard have Rosetta and will I still be able to use AppleWorks 6.2.9 with Snow Leopard? If not, I am not updating.

It's nice to know for sure, but I don't see how this changes much. Won't the people who pirate it still be forced to install the retail version Friday? Won't the developer's build no longer work with the Apple Update? Isn't there branding that says it is a developer's build? Even if you have installed A432, you're still going to have to install the retail version Friday in order to have the real version that works, right?
I'm glad people who wanted to know what the retail build was know it, but this doesn't get me my retail disc any sooner than Friday. Friday can't come soon enough! :D

You are kidding right?
If you have one of the dev builds installed, nobody is going to force you to upgrade to retail version... so far, I don't know of any apple update that disabled any of their pirated software. (Disclaimer: I do not condone piracy. Even if I downloaded the beta or RTM from torrents (which I didn't), that would purely be for trying out purposes... btw, amazon had it for 25. At least they did when I bought).

D= WHY DO YOU THINK THAT IS SLOW!?!?!

I get 10mbps download 2mbps upload, and I think that's amazingly fast.

Jesus I didn't even know there was a speed that fast available except for some fiberoptics maybe?

D= I'mma move there, damn!

3mbps download speeds are great, you'd be done downloading in a couple of hours though I don't condone piracy. It's just that it really isn't slow.
I suppose you live in the USA and I can understand your feelings when you see speeds of that sort, but they are quite common in some Asian and European countries.... and btw, the OP you were replying to was being sarcastic.. I don't think he meant his connection was really slow.
And also btw, we atleast get that kind of download speeds here in NJ, NY and CT area.... optimum ultra has 101mbps down stream connection for households... but being cable, that speed is not gauranteed, but knowing my Optimum boost does give me 30Mbps down, I can say that's practical... But I doubt even 1 in 100 households get that Ultra as they charge an additional low monthly fee of $55 or something (In addition to what you are already paying for regular 15mbps connection).

pal :)

Heh, Apple and routine/predictable/etc have never been words that go together.

As a previous discussion I had with Peace, just referencing Panther and Tiger. Panther's last pre-release was 10 days before it was released, that version was the GM. Tiger's last pre-release was 14 days before it was released, that version did not end up being the GM.

My bet has been slightly in favor that 10A432 is the GM since it was put up on ADC. I simply figure that Archive and Install is easy enough if that's not the case.

As has been pointed out numerous times, here goes one more time... :)

Yes, but it is not pre-installed. When you fire up an application that requires Rosetta, a nice dialog box will pop up and ask you if you want to install it.

AppleWorks 6.2.9? We're fast approaching 10 years since 6.0 was released.

Thanks, Impierced.

I appreciate your response.

Whiny Brits scoff at price: :p

Blighty angry at Snow Leopard exchange rate

http://www.macworld.com/article/142448/apple_exchange_rate.html

so i'm curious. does the UK not charge import taxes. cause I know that Japan sure does. especially on tech items. could that be the source of the price difference. at least some of it

Meanwhile some say SL is an EP (epic fail)... fanboys here better put their fingers in their ears and go "la-la-la": :p

Snow Leopard Is a Pale Imitation of Windows 7

http://www.pcworld.com/article/170783/snow_leopard_is_a_pale_imitation_of_windows_7.html

that article is about as equal and fair as the "I'm a Mac" ad campaign

Message to thieves:

White Apple sticker on car = possible Apple computer inside.

that's why I put all my stickers on other folks cars. not on mine

this really won't launch in the 64 bit kernel on my 24" 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo iMac? That's a huge letdown if so..

not by default, no. but can it be set to launch apparently so.

think if it as a kin to putting in a DVD and hitting C to get the machine to boot from that and not the startup drive.

Snow Leopard doesn't do upgrades. It does an Archive/Install by default.

which aren't really that different. the latter in older versions made a "previous system" folder which was always pointless. so now it doesn't.

and Apple artificially blocking the 13" alu-MacBooks from running a 64-bit kernel is a point that I think is worth drawing attention to.

is it something that could be 'corrected' via a firmware update. if so then there's nothing more to say until we see SL release and the firmware doesn't

Clearly Apple is doing this because a machine booted in 64bit mode would require 64bit drivers. As always OS advances precede developer adoption. Apple is primarily a consumer electronics company with a couple pro lines. It would be foolish of them to release an OS with a default booting method that would cause driver conflicts. All Apple is essentially saying is, hey, if you are a pro or power user, you can force boot into 64bit mode, but we have to look out for our less technically saavy customers.

someone thinking like Apple and not just with a tech boy "I want it so this is the way it must be or Apple is wrong, wrong, wrong" 'tude.

nicely done

looking at this for too long almost induces a seizure.

my roommate just walked by and asked if he was licking his lips cause he just had some Vista for lunch

Some of us aren't douchebags and pay for our software. Yes, I've downloaded 10.6 but I have a pre-order in and when it does come in it'll go in the closet beside my 10.4 and 10.5 discs. I Hacintosh because Apple doesn't sell hardware I feel compelling enough to buy, however I like their OS a lot. This solution works for me.

so you acknowledge Apple's legal right to collect money for their software, but not their legal right to resist the hardware it is used on.

nice.

That has not been the case since I started receiving beta builds and GMs from Apple dating back to System 7.5, and as such would be highly unlikely.

yeah and companies never change tactics. which is why everyone is paying $129 for Snow Leopard.

Apple's Software is usually printed/pressed within the EU so the box and disc will have no import tax of any kind imposed on them when imported to the UK.

Any company with half a brain cell would produce the product within the EU so that there are no taxes when moving the product within the whole of the EU.

That doesn't mean that the research and development can't take place elsewhere.
