I'd just rather put in a disk and go. Even for a nominal fee. How's that saying go? Oh yeah, time is money.😛 [/B]

Just do what I say a guy do when I was IN DC. Take a cd into your nearest apple store and they will let you download the update and burn it onto a cd. But find out how big it is first, you might need more than one disk...

On another note.. I hope this CUPS printing system they are changing to in 10.2 doens't require all new printer drivers again.. Another 3-9 months of wrangling with printer driver updates from vendors would be a bad sanity check.. Hopefully it will fix the Classic layer print issues as well (as in it doesn't print from some Classic applications but documents sit and pile up in the print manager buffer until the next OS 9 reboot and then they print).

#1. FASTER... remove all legacy/Carbon code where speed can be optimized by replacing with Cocoa code.

#2. REFINE... remove bugs, make all features consistent (scroll-wheel ability in ALL windows including file requester dialogs in applications, not just Finder)

#3. OPTIONS... make more options to down exotic aqua functions and other niceties for the poor g3 users.. more options for power management (at least OS 9 equivalent)... Option to install Mozilla or Omniweb instead of IE.. etc.. (let's keep Bill on his toes to keep MS Office for Mac by threatening IE).

Last priority: Totally new features.. Lets get all the existing ones right first! 10.2 should focus on getting everything that exists perfected and maximized in terms of speed, stability, and usability.. focus should be on making everything consistent and consistently easy for both users and applications developers.

What about SpyWare/AdWare ? Download Accellerators are NOTORIOUS for containing this unwanted junk.

If CUPS is a complete re-design, so be it. Just so long as it is stable, and it WORKS!

Printing under MacOS X is pathetic IMHO. When it works, it's fine. But even with so-called OS X compatible drivers you never know what error is going to show up next. Especially if you have happened to kick off Classic for some reason.

I also think Apple needs to build a standardized Scanning layer into Quartz so the Scanner Manufacturers can get some damned drivers out the door.

I don't mind doing all my Scanning on the PC, but it's just pathetic, ya know ?

The whole Security model under OS X could use a major simplification too.

Correct Spelling and Usage of "Yeah" and "Yay"

Okay, now that this has been brought up:

"Yay!" - Used as a cheer. (Like, it's "hooray", not "hooreah")
"Yeah" - Used as in agreement. (Slang for yes.)

What I want in 10.2

I want the ability to program my function keys again. I also want to see an option to start up the computer at a certain time and shut it down at a certain time.

I would also like to see an itunes update that would allow itunes to start playing where you left off when it is started up.

Printing is annoying in OS X, and I wish that there were some drivers for scanning out. I know that Vuescan is out, but I was not impressed with the speed considering that I have a firewire scanner and I really don't want to pay 40 bucks.

Speed is decent on a lot of software, but some applications need some tweaking as far as speed.

Also, apple needs to make it where windows can't go behind the dock unless moved there by the user. I hate windows in ie that open full screen and go behind the dock, it just annoys me. I like the dock, but there could be some tweaking.

I just want the developers to get there rears into action. Microsoft needs an palm entourage conduit, real player needs to come out ( I don't use that often, but it is nice to have), and Macromedia needs to get its rear into action

My one and only wish...

...is for drivers for legacy ATI video cards. My poor little WallStreet is groaning under the weight of the Quartz layer...

OK, two wishes. A DVD player for older Macs.

Well, three. Free iMacs for all.

Apple, feel free to choose two of the above and run with them...

Don't wait for Microsoft, a 3rd party developer already has an Entrourage/Palm conduit called QueuSync X.. check Versiontracker for it:

http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=13777&db=mac

I used it and it worked great for me!

WELL HELP ME THEN

I tried it a while ago and even posted the link to it. But I couldn't get it to work for me. It would go through the motions and then there would be nothing on my palm. I just store my contacts on my ipod and I will wait for microsoft. But I have got a new imac since then, maybe I will try it again. If you have any idea what the problem might be, I would appreciate some help. I would love to use my palm.

Anything is downloadable, even for dial-up users. You just have to know the secret... Overnight downloads! Woo Hoo!

Seriously, set your connection to hang up after five minutes of activity, make sure energy saver won't turn your machine off after 30 minutes or anything, and then start the download right before bed... 100 MB over a 50K dialup by morning. (50 MB if you can only connect at 28.8)

P.S. If you are booted into OS 9 at the time, turn off your screensaver (and monitor if you want). OS 9 doesn't seem to be able to do screen saving and reliable background processing at the same time.

Cheers!

1. Yes!
2. Yes!
3. Yes!
3.5 (Keep Bill on his toes.) ...You seem to forget that the way Bill usually responds to that is the old "Screw Apple. Cancel IE for Mac." thing.
Last: Yes, except where adding new features IS getting it right first... I.e. Putting in all of the contextual menus and layout options that are good ideas, but were left out because MS Windows had them first and Apple didn't want Mac OS to resemble Windows.

Oh yeah, and they should write a patch to turn my mouse into a two-button one!

Cheers!
