Weird. Applied this "fix" few times and there's nothing changed. Tried to re-login, reboot. Converted .plist file and it shows Dark as interface mode... Wth -_-

Nvm, I think DP2 didn't installed o_O installing again

lol weird... Second time installing DP2 from mac app store, download 1.06gb update, installs it, after reboot says "some updates didn't installed" -_- Still on DP1 14A238x

Same thing happened to me - on 2 different machines. Now in Software Update "Update 1.0" is showing in the installed list and there's no way I can see to install the update again. Don't really want to wipe the partition and reinstall DP1 but I can't see any other option.

Pointed out solution at 10.10 subforum :)

Change language to english and country to USA and use pkg file or run in terminal:
sudo softwareupdate -ia

I strongly recommend install iTunes from mac store first!

I am sick of hearing people complain about the look of Yosemite and even iOS 7(8) for that matter. Apple will not change it back because a few pessimists won't just accept it.
It's quite sickening to hear people complain about other people's opinions too. Those who think Yosemite is ugly will not change just because you disagree and refer to them as "pessimists".

Just deal with the new look if you are too pessimistic to overlook it (or just not intelligent enough to be able to change the design yourself), and quit complaining.
Just deal with the fact that some people find the UI ugly, and quit complaining.

Quick note: Tough Guy, I am not targeting your specifically, I am annoyed with everyone that has made posts like this today. There have been way too many.
Yeah, everyone should conform to your opinions and beliefs. People really are annoying, aren't they?

As somebody that stares at a iMac all day at work, I am already finding this much less eye straining. Can't Wait for Apple to implement it properly. :apple:

The Menu Extras items haven't been updated yet to deal with Dark Mode. Quite simple really.

It just occurred to me, some pointed out doing this years ago and that required white menu bar extra's for many third party and system app's/info. Since the format hasn't changed, replacing them the same way should fix it until it's fully finished.

Now, where to download those two files?

UPDATE: I've been able to change third party app menubar icons by drilling into the app's contents /Resources file. There you will find the icons, in tiff format. Interestingly DropBox already has white icons. Renaming the black with (old) in the end, then copying and pasting the black icons name for the white icon, and done. This worked for Chronicle, and iStat Menus has the option already.

Hmm, I think I'll enable this and use bartender to hide all the ugly unfinished menubar icons.. Presumably it's popup menubar will stay light.

For a reason. Or can you properly see the menu extras in the screenshot? :p

Exactly my point. There's no point in people getting too worked up over a feature not being finished when apple has not only made it clear that it's not finished, but didn't even intend for anyone to use it yet.

Nice one dezmen! That worked for me.

I like how the dark look is coming along. Lots more work required on it, obviously, so can see why it's not officially in there yet. I'll watch with interest.

Will also keep a note of your tip for future updates!

Cheers :D

.. It really doesn't make a huge difference to the interface at all.. How much time do people spend in the menubars? I also find the bright white text v jarring against the dark-mid-grey background.. much more so than in light mode.

Obviously, it's very much not ready for prime time (or it'd be enabled).. I DO prefer what it does to the grid dock folders though. :/ Shame we can't mix and match dark/light elements on a case by case basis.

No Audio

Is anyone else having challenges with the audio? I have an iMac 27-inch, Mid 2011 2.7 GHz intel Core 5 and the audio is gone. When I try to see the Audio Preference it takes forever to come visible and it shows that it doesn't have any output devices.

Good so far! Very important that notification banners are given the HUD look too, but the menu bar, menus and Dock look great.

They could also darken the window chrome/blurs in Dark Mode - that would be epic.

Would like them to make a system wide dark theme, and not only dark menubar and dock. But I guess that will never happen.

This looks good enough to leave on the entire time
That would definitely be my choice for my work system.

I anticipate Dark Mode vs. Light Mode to become the new Bottom Dock vs. Side Dock argument in certain circles.
Everyone knows that the dock pinned to the upper left corner is best! Bring back Apple Menu Items!

Now we need a dark mode for iOS 8.
I really want this too.

And a non-flat mode. :D
And want this also too...

I think the same.

It was probably before many of you were born but remember that in OS9 you could use certain applications such as 'Kaleidoscope' to change the themes for your Mac? It seems that that functionality is built into OSX just not available to the end user. I would really like to be able to have different themes for different situations or environments.

Anyone else remember the days of this? :)

(Oops, Madd already mentioned it... Ah well, I'll leave this link here for the younger generation. ^_^)

I remember it well. ↓

8.5 did allow, natively, themes. It came with Platinum, with two more planned. Unfortunately, the other two themes weren't released, but the functionality stayed in until Mac OS X. It was available via the Appearance Control Panel.

Although Kaleidoscope did integrate with the Appearance API.
