Easy one, 'Open Office', the open source office application, no free advertising for Microsoft!

I was curious about the X11 icon... This seems to be a defunct windows handler, a throwback to the PowerPC days? Is this right?

I found this link,

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_...-house-x11-support-and-more-in-mountain-lion/

Doesn't really say what it is/was for. Anyone know?

Is is used by Open Office as Open Office is a multiplatform system?

I think that because of the nature of X11 they probably threw it in because it just seems to go with her nature as a computer geek. The all-over the place placement of the Apple hardware in this film tells me that the guys in charge of this stuff probably weren't too clued into this stuff...

I definitely think Stieg Larsson was a Macintosh fan :p He apparently used an iBook (which was what Lisbeth starts with in the films), then goes into great detail describing her PowerBook which must have just come out at the time. His dream machine perhaps?

Nice reply...

Yes Larsson was a apple geek. The Swedish movies feature even more apple geekdom screen shots, great terminal accsess of a remote server mirroring laptops....

The American produced movie is good, but the Swedish versions have more atmosphere and understand Mikhail's character a lot better.....

True. Nyqvist definitely understood the role better. Craig had that raw energy he uses to play Bond on display. I really couldn't imagine him sitting through binders full of information and calmly cataloguing it all in a database :p

Yes, the yank version played to much on the character's hero quality. Mik's skills were down to having HAD to do national service in his youth. He didn't see himself as an action-man, in times of fight or flight, instincts took over... He was more like Lizbet in a way.... he was a writing-geek where she was a hacker.... and both were accidental heros.

I thought it was a shame that the American movie version of the story sidestepped the delayed prison sentence because, a. this was another snapshot into the Swedish-mindset (the idea of going to prison, but not for 6 months is bizarre, but interesting); b. very important for the writer, because Mik' made use of this time to write an important book!

and they sidestepped how much cash Mik' was getting paid by Vanger, to save his skin...

Sorry! love this story, it has so much texture! :D

might help users who are looking for a black mac theme

programs:
Candybar
iStat(optional)
OS X 10.7+

Downloads:
LevantinLynx(stand alone add-on)
Black System(candybar add-on)
CID-DOCK(candy bar add-on)

the combined use of these may give the desired "black mac" theme

Are you talking about the Original Swedish version or the american remake with Daniel Craig?

Most movies usually show Linux with a theme similar to OS X, since they are not getting advertizing money from Apple.

Unless the film's producers are utterly useless at their job (unlikely), then I imagine Apple gave them quite a bit of money for advertising their products. I seen more Macs in that film than Coca Cola bottles in shameless talent show programs.

Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who liked her set-up in the film.

Tiger

The OS is Tiger and they are using a theme program called ShapeShifter by Unsanity. ShapeShifter stopped working when Leopard came out. It's weird to see Tiger running on a unibody Macbook Pro. They are also using an older version of iLife, probably iLife 06 or earlier.

Pretty cool that you guys got into this. I've been looking around for different tweaks a while now.

If they have an actual OS on that MBP, it is not Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, since Tiger has no drivers for 2008 and later hardware. They probably used a video to play back using different customised elements.
