iMac is the king of all-in-one, and then some. Period.

Once you can accept the fate that you can't freely messing around or upgrade your hardware partially on a DESKTOP computer, well .. You gotta go iMac or go home! Seriously.
You'd be stupid to bring home an all-in-one computer if it isn't iMac.

All competitor's models are garbage compared to what iMac offers. They may offer bluray drive, 6GB stock RAM, but it does not outweigh the fact that it is a cheap wannabe and knockoff, bad build quality, bad looks, half baked touchscreen UI, piss poor GPU or even laptop CPU. At least iMac offers desktop CPU and good mobility GPUs, the cheapest is 6750M I believe, which is decent. The rest are iGP or 64xxM garbage. And when you want to compete with iMac, as usual they'll end up cost similarly. If so, why would I chose the other one?
Yeah it's that extreme.

I've finally saved up for a 27-inch iMac, but I'm having second thoughts on getting one at this time. MacRumors and the overwhelming majority of users of this forum are saying "Go ahead, changes to the newer model will only be minor."

Having browsed some on all-in-one PCs, however, I would like to ask your opinion on this matter considering that existing competition (http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/11/2553266/samsung-series-7-all-in-one-review) has seemingly better-value hardware than current iMacs, and upcoming products (http://micgadget.com/20208/this-lenovo-all-in-one-pc-is-what-apple-imac-should-have-done-video/) might influence greatly the features of the upcoming iMac models. I mean, wouldn't Apple think twice about its specs when another brand is coming out in the next few months with a 27-inch multi-touchscreen device with 8 gigs of RAM and 2 TB storage for $1300?
The first all-in-one is a dual-core with Intel graphics, and the second doesn't actually say what GPU it uses.

The iMac is great value and the model in 2012 will be a significant update.

The question is do you want to run OS X or Windows (or Linux )?

If you want to run OS X, then comparing specs of an iMac vs non-Apple is somewhat pointless.

Thanks again for the replies! Again, I'm not contemplating on buying a PC system, but I'm asking if the current technology/competition could force the next iMac model to have big changes, and will this make them worth a possible few months wait. From what I've read, people are saying that the 2012 iMac won't be much different from the current one.

robgendreau, I plan to buy an iMac to replace my old macbook (the last black version that came out, 2008 i believe) in my bedroom, as I'm having neck problems using it on a daily basis (plus it's starting to overheat now). Aside from regular Internet use, I'll be doing a fair amount of photo editing on it (work) and, as my desk is situated at the foot of my bed, I also plan to flip the iMac around at times so I can watch shows on it while in bed. Yeah, I don't really need a touch screen, though if the next model would have an HDMI port, I'd much prefer that so I could use it as an extra display for my Xbox.
