So I received a series 3 around a month ago as a gift mainly because there is no way to set the alarm volume to low enough or generally increase alarm volume in iphone lol xd. I only wear it at night as an alarm and sometimes as a fashion item.

The only useful thing other than alarm is unlock phone with mask on since mine is iphone 11.

Honestly no idea why wearing it. It is heavy, feel annoyed when weather is hot and having sweat. My iPhone has time already. Even for running I just use it once then I know the stats of my normal routine.

Glad that didn't receive SE as a gift, just waste more money lol xd. I don't care about fashion lol xd. I would rather feel more comfortable.

The sleep and run modes don't really tell me much anyway. I must set the sleep mode to see sleep stats which is annoying that the sleep mode must be auto on at night then need to unlock the phone twice every time at night. Have to manually turn on run mode everytime if I go running. Even the cheapest Chinese sport band ($20 US dollars kind) do all of these with auto detection without annoying me many years ago.

Fashion item lol xd

Fashion item? Thanks for your insight. Looks like you should stick to the $20 fashions. How annoying.

Same here - Only need day, date, time and timer.

But it's good for answering your phone, and doing quick checks on the weather and stock market. Then if you're feeling under the weather and have one of the newer watches, it's handy for doing checks for Afib, heart rate, blood oxygen and the like.

Then there's that unseen part - the emergency calling features that end up saving people's lives (regular news articles on that).

But for the day to day, most of us don't use much in the way of watch capability .. But some of us think it's good having the potential and capability that's right there on our wrist for so very much more.

If you want to do sleep tracking and app like Sleep++ will auto-detect your sleep periods and provide more information. AutoSleep also does that and has some nice graphs.

I use my AW to keep track of my next meetings. When listening to music or podcasts on my phone, I use the NowPlaying controls on the phone for convenient play/pause and skip or volume control. It’s good for previewing tests and simple responses. I use voice to text to create tasks and shopping lists and quick notes. And I use it to track runs and other workouts. I’ve had watches that tried to guess if I was working out or not but they were unreliable at that. When I do run, I know it and prepare including starting the tracking. And of course, there is the date and time.

You many not need these things and that’s fine. I just thought I would mention the things that give the watch value to me. See if there are things that give you value.

Thanks for sharing?

I use my watch for a lot of features throughout the day. Glad you have a fashion item at least.

I don't think you're using it right then - I got mine for running and now dont like taking it off as its SO useful.
Setting timers for cooking
setting reminders
converting weights via siri
controlling my house lights
controlling the sonos speakers
and mostly
PAYING FOR THINGS
Honestly its too convenient - and i love the travel pay thing for using the tube or busses or trains.

Of course i can do all of that with my iPhone. But this is easier. It has stopped me wearing my more expensive watches day to day. Even if they are better looking because lets be honest, an apple watch is not a fashion item whatsoever.

The great thing about the Apple Watch is that it's not a mandatory purchase.

I don't need a Mac Mini either but because they're not mandatory I don't really need to go into the Mac Mini subforum and post my reasons for not needing one. :)

For sure it's a crazy expensive alarm.

I use mine mainly for telling the time, reminders, timers and recording exercise activities.

Siri is shockingly poor on the watch though and I wish Apple would invest in improving it. Some of the interpretations it makes from the requests I ask are comical sometimes. Oh, and the response that my watch ‘doesn’t have any timer apps installed’ when clearly there is from the default software!

Do not know if I would ever want to not wear my Apple Watch. I use it for the the fitness features, reminders, texts, email, stock, etc.

It has become indispensable to me!

I've never thought of it as anything useful. Too fragile to be a serious timepiece, does nothing a phone and dedicated sports band can't do, and demands too much attention to be practical. It's never really been fashionable either, more like a Mickey Mouse watch, a kitschy, overpriced toy. I respect Apple's marketing skills tho, selling so many semi-conscious consumers on a shiny, expensive trinket.

Wow…you really should have started this post with “in my opinion”. It might have made you come off as slightly less snobbish. I especially like the part where you call people who do buy an Apple Watch dumb. Has it ever occurred to you that others might find the watch useful even if you do not? That doesn’t make them stupid.

Also, by your logic, an iPhone doesn’t do anything that a Nokia 8210, a digital camera, a Rolodex, a pocket calendar, an alarm clock, and a calculator could do. Clearly only an idiot would buy one rather than haul all that around in a backpack every day.

Do you even workout or do you lie on your couch all day?

you are entitled to you opinion, no question, but from the wording of your post I conclude you don't really know the features the Apple Watch offers ... and I also take that you never owned one

Your post clearly admits you’ve never used an Apple Watch or have any idea what one is capable of. Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. It’s a smartwatch mate, it’s not meant to be a ‘serious timepiece’

FYI: there is a setting that allows you to adjust the volume of alarms. You also might have the setting turned on that sets the alarm sound to your volume setting. Not sure, but worth a check.

And I'd def either sell the watch or give it to somebody who might get more value from it and just by a Casio as somebody else said.

I've been curious about smartwatches ever since I saw a standalone smartwatch from Samsung a few years ago. However, it felt immature at the time.

Still interested, but since I understand that AW isn't completely independent (requires an iPhone when set up), I continue to wait.

For me personally, I'm drawn to smartwatches by a single reason, that I should be able to skip my smartphone completely. The reason is that I find smartphones too addictive, time wasters, distracting and clumsy.

You can't always reach me as I don't mind lugging my phone around everywhere (girls' clothes rarely have any pockets and I don't like purses). It would have been nice if loved ones could reach me and that I could call for help or check the map/opening hours, receive messages etc. on my arm.

The fact that it can count steps and help me move (remind or motivate me) I see as an interesting feature I want to explore. Also that it can measure my heart rate, fall detector, etc.

I would prefer to use an iPad over an iPhone for email or other productive things. I don't really care about cameras either. No need to document my whole life, instead I want to be more present. My hope is that AW is a tool that will simplify my everyday life more than iPhone/smartphones do. Time will tell.

I don't even check the stats like walking distance anymore. It is an alarm and rarely used fashion item for me now.
