With some readers beginning to grow premature gray hair over the plethora of news regarding Apple's soon to be released iPhone, let's recap some of the recent non-iPhone related stories that we've covered, or that we've let slip through:

Leopard
Leopard leaks continue to trickle in. Recently disclosed features include enhancements to QuickTime, DVD Player, iChat, and system configurability. Apple has also seeded developers a read/write beta of ZFS for Leopard.

TUAW reports that developers who missed out on WWDC will be able to get their hands on the WWDC build of Leopard "soon." Meanwhile, Apple's major build milestone calendar was outlined by MacScoop, with an expectation of release in late October.

3rd Party Applications
Parallels has gained a lot of attention with their release of Parallels Desktop 3.0, which includes 3D graphics support. Macworld's Peter Cohen took a look at the release from a gamer's perspective. In addition, we recently announced a partnership with Digital River for a 10% discount on Parallels Desktop 3.0 upgrades.

Perhaps also notable is Adobe's Lightroom 1.1 update. Details and an in-depth overview are provided by James Duncan Davidson over in O'Reilly's Inside Lightroom blog.

In regards to Parallels 3.0 and its 3D graphics support: I've been hearing more often than not that their 3D graphics implementation actually doesn't work as well as advertised. Most, if not all the game listed to be supported won't run, or run horribly slow, defying the purpose of this feature. I don't have an Intel Mac yet, so I can't really back up these claims, but when I do get my MacBook Pro I think I'll go with VMWare. They're much more respected in the virtualization industry, and I trust their product more. I will try out Parallels though.

Here's a link to peoples' reports of Parallels' 3D graphics acceleration sucking:

Lol, I wasn't getting "premature grey hair" but I am glad to hear that Apple still has markets besides the iPhone that they're working on... :p

:) I'm excited for the iPhone too, but there were some selfish reasons for writing the article too. I'm getting some gray hair myself.

...although... that may not have to do with the iPhone...

You need to turn off the Hardware Acceleration completely for 3D based applications to work - Defeats the purpose...

If memory serves me correctly, only DirectX 8.1 is supported.

Hopefully this issue will be resolved soon.

I think they should make a new tab for iphone related stuff. At this point I'm sick of the iphone and am betting that it's the reason I haven't gotten any respones from a developer support ticket (not having to do with the damn iphone!) I sent to Apple days ago now...

What!

You mean Apple Inc. sells something else besides the iPhone?

You mean if all those people go to the Apple store, they may buy something else?

You mean online music sales are growing at 50%/year, while in store CD sales are falling 20%/year?

You mean Mac sales are growing are record rates and Appleshare is nearing double digits?

You mean Apple sells notebook computers that are the fastest growing segment of the market and Apple's sales are growing twice as fast as anyone else's?

You mean they still sell iPods? And people like them?

What, Apple gets a kickback from every iPhone ATT subcriber's monthly bill? Wow, wonder how big that, pure profit revenue stream will be?

You mean they still sell Apple Tvs. Okay, maybe that's just "hobby" but don't be fooled. Blockbuster is set to announce a LOSS of around $.30/share. Even bigger than last quarter. It's a good thing that that total access programs is working so well. If it gets any better the company will be in bankruptcy. And they'll take Netflix with them. Both Netflix and Blockbuster say they are working on an online rental program to allow users to download rentals TO THEIR COMPUTERS. Apple is poised to introduce online rentals on Apple TV. Most likely in HD (as noted by recent 40GB to 160GB upgrade of the internal HD). Those who get it, love their Apple TVs. When the masses can turn it on and rent a movie, they will get it too.

And finally, You mean that Apple's stock has gone up 1000% during the last 5 years WITHOUT the iPhone revenue? That puts the stock on its way to 160 WITHOUT iPhone revenues. And I think they may sell a few of them this weekend. Me included.

Actually

and, as shown by the amount of comments made as compared to iphone.... nobody cares. bring on da phone!!!

Actually no, it's just that A) the original stories were burried in the iPhone avalanche and B) this thread has nothing new to report - Apple is so focused on the iPhone these days MR has to resort to recycling rumours. Part of Apple's new green strategy is to force all news and rumour outlets to recycle their computer related stories.........

BTW for anyone wanting to know when the new iMacs will be announced, it will be next week. How do I know? I finally got tired of waiting and ordered a 21" iMac for work and it is due to arrive next week so I figure once it arrives Apple will announce the new one....

EDIT That should read 20" iMac of course....thanks MacinDoc

Stupid iPhone. It's just a newton glued to a walkie talkie - why can't anyone see that?!?!?! :D And enough with the Leopard news too... looks like we won't see it until November.

Meanwhile, I'm waiting for two "real" products myself, the new iMac and the new Microsoft Office. Any word on those? That's kind of the core of Apple's product line.

Yes please - let's here what is happening with Office - seriously. The new iWork will be quite a wait is seems and there are still some things (Excel mostly) that I really really need Office for.

Thank you for FINALLY posting something that doesn't have anything to do with the bloody iPhone...

I can't wait until that way over-hyped little toy is released on Friday, and we can actually get back to (IMO) the greatest thing about Apple: computers (remember those?).

A 21" iMac? I'm figuring that's a typo, unless you know something the rest of us don't...

I'm certainly hoping for new iMacs soon, and I anticipate they will be announced in mid-July when the iPhone (had to mention it) hype settles down a bit.
