You are expecting the cMBP to be redesigned and kept alongside the rMBP? Sorry but that's not even a possibility.
It's just going to die. The real question is when. Probably next refresh.

By the way the cMBP with anti-glare has considerably higher reflectance than the rMBP. The main difference is that you get a diffuse reflection rather than specular, but the amount of light reflected is a lot higher.

anti-glare will go if they do away with the non-retina screen. i haven't personally used a disc drive in years, but I know many still do. I think those are also going to go away.

original poster...

My understanding is that the AG is offered because it is offered on the mb Air.

What to do what to do....

As stated by others here, the standard ('classic') MacBook Pro won't be modified, it'll simply be discontinued. The MacBook Pro with Retina display is the 'next-generation' design, as Apple puts it, and is the flagship going forward.

The fact that the standard 15" model no longer has a high-end option (just CTO) is a clear sign of the direction its headed.

Okay...

So what about HARD DRIVES????

I saw today rMBPs have a 750 (or so) GIG SSD. But It's $600 extra.

Will those prices come down? Will bigger SSDs be available???

Predict!!!

BTO SSD prices have already come down (in February). They might come down more, though, and I think a VERY expensive 1024 GB SSD BTO is a possibility.

A price drop would be amazing, but I doubt it'll happen. They've already cut the price once. I'm most curious to see if they keep offering the non-retina models.

The expandability of them is still really nice (especially if you remove the optical drive and run an SSD + regular HD)

I think a price drop is a definite. Even though they dropped it in January, it still has a big premium over the cMBP, and you aren't getting much more besides the screen.

I doubt, but maybe it's because I don't want to, that Apple will make the cMBP thinner. It would be making a cMBP identical to a rMBP except in term of the Retina display. Well, they've done it at least one time with the Aluminium MacBook which was exactly identical to the MacBook Pro (except the base CPU of both 13" and the keyboard of the MBP). But, they killed the Aluminium MacBook rapidly as it was too identical to the MBP. It's not good in term of marketing... So, except if they kill the cMBP, I doubt they'll redesign a dying branch.

The aluminum Macbook never existed alongside the 13" MBP. They just added a few things and renamed it the 13" MBP.

Honestly I think that the only possibilites are that the 15" cMBP stays on exactly as-is (maybe with an update to Haswell), or it goes away completely. I don't see Apple investing any further engineering work into changing the cMBP.

Not to mention that they did not drop the price of the 15" at all.

I don't expect much changes for the MBP line, possibly the complete removal of the optical drive, maybe the faster wifi (I was hoping my 2012 rMBP was going to have this) and perhaps a thinner design since they'll drop the optical drive

I have the MacBook Pro 5,5 and in my memory, both 13" were existing alongside just before I bought mine. A glitch in my memory :p

So, right, it was with the 15". Still that they could have updated both line to be identical, instead they renamed the 13" MB as the 13" MBP. The point is that having an identical design for both cMBP and rMBP is probably illogical for Apple.

But if they dropped the optical it would essentially become an rMBP; but maybe it would become the MacBook.

I expect a cheaper version of the 15 inch Macbook Pro with a GT3e (HD5200) graphics option only (no nvidia) to replace the price point of the 15 inch cMBP which will just go away.

The HD5200 are rumored to perform in between 640m and a 650m which will be good enough for a lot of people. And it also removes the graphics card switching which isn't a very elegant solution imho. It makes for a cooler 15 inch mbp with because both fans in the chassis cool the single chip like the 13 inch.

I hope you're right, that's exactly the machine I am wishing for!!! :D
