I refuse to pay these crazy high prices for phone repairs, that's why I use cases.

I had an Otterbox Symmetry on my iPhone XS for two years and the case still looks almost as good as new. So hard-wearing! Unlike phone surfaces. My best case ever, for US$35 in a carrier store, fully protected a US$1257 phone against any damage. Pristine phone at the end of the two years.
Hey guys, new macrumors member!

I’m having a hard time deciding on which otterbox case to get for my new iPhone 12 Pro Max

I had the Defender for my iPhone 7 Plus and loved it. Indestructible

but it looks like the only otterbox MagSafe case is the symmetry which doesn’t look nearly as durable.

I’m guessing that maybe the defender is too thick for the current to pass through?

any advice? I’m very clumsy and drop my phone constantly but MagSafe seems like a great feature. I’m looking at the belkin MagSafe mount for my car. However I already have Qi wireless chargers and power banks

thanks a lot for any help!

Alongside the iPhone 12 models, Apple introduced a new MagSafe line of accessories that work with a ring of magnets built into the new devices. MagSafe technology is being provided to third-party case makers, who are coming out with MagSafe products.

OtterBox today announced the launch of several cases designed to work with Apple’s MagSafe accessories, including the Figura, Aneu, and Symmetry+ Series.

Priced at $50 to $60, the cases feature slim but protective designs along with MagSafe compatibility. The Figura cases feature multi-color designs and are made from a soft-touch material for a comfortable grip, while the Aneu comes in solid colors with a grippy edge.

The Symmetry+ cases feature a more protective design with DROP+ technology and are infused with a silver-based additive that blocks microbial growth and protects against common bacteria.

The new MagSafe cases from OtterBox can be purchased from the OtterBox website or from the Apple online store.

And for only $60 you can have $3 worth of plastic. OtterBox makes good cases, but they do not justify the pricing, not when you can get very comparable cases for $12-20.

This is so subjective that any reply is little more than personal preference and not scientific in any way. I am currently in a fairly cheap Amazon case that has a hard inner shell, wrapped in a soft TPU. I also have a glass screen saver on my 12 Pro Max. This is a workable temp solution until Case Mate puts the Pelican Shield G10 goes on sale for Christmas. The only cases I've had that did not have some issue have been Pelican and Mous. Both a very expensive, but have little things that set them apart. I believe Mous has something like a 5 meter protection guarantee? Both cases are expensive, but in my experience worth it when it comes to protecting your $1,200 investment.

Great advice thanks! Do the pelican cases work with MagSafe? I have some pelicans for other gear

Hey that pelican g10 looks sweet. Found it on amazon for $48. So you’d say this is better than the otterbox? I honestly didn’t know they made iPhone cases.

Do you use a screen protector in addition to the case?

Price isn’t an issue - I want the best possible. As you say, it’s to protect an expensive phone

Thanks again for the help

Just got the G10 and it says it is Mag Safe approved. I don't and probably won't use Mag Safe, so I will not be able to say for certain. Since everything I have is set up for the old iPhone 11, I will continue to use the Lightning as a charging option, as it is faster, and I get a positive connection every time.

Ps. I'd greatly appreciate if Apple would move the iPhone and anything else they have that uses Lightning to USB-C (40Gb), but don't see that happening, so Lightning it is. If Apple moves to a portliness phone, then I move back to the Samsung S series.

Thanks for the great info! I’m using a USB-C -> lightning cable for my 12 pro Max and it charges super fast. I got a 20,000 mAh graphene power bank that has 100 watt and 60 watt PD 3.0 outputs. The powerbank itself charges from 0 to 100% in about 45 minutes when using a 100 watt wall charger
