I spoke to a Otterbox rep about this yesterday - posted in another thread. Long story short - they did NOT have a preview of the phone so they stood in line like everyone else. Engineering has had their phone just as long as we've had ours (and they're not pulling weekends).

Its impossible to say how soon this is coming out b/c they just started work on it. He said a month or two is entirely within the realm of possibility.

So, in the meantime I just slapped a Zagg shield on my phone. Waiting for ATT to ship my Speck Candyshell case.

This will have to do until the Otterbox goes live.

What does everybody think of the Commuter case vs the Defender case??? I'm afraid I wouldn't like the bulk of the Defender case.

Since I haven't used an otterbox defender case before, how bulky is it?

I have had one on my 3G for about a year now. I personally like the added bulk. Not only do I know for sure that a simple drop isn't going to break it, but I really don't like how thin the phone is without it. I feels better in my hand with the case on. I like the looks of both the 3G and the 4 model, so i will be getting one as well.

Also, in a year not only is the phone still good as new, the case is just as structurally sound as the day i bought it. Love the case. The only thing I don't like about it is how many people bought one after I did.

I am signed up for email alerts for both the Defender and that Ballistic case. Whichever one sends me an email first, gets my money. I work inside and outside all day long and depend upon my iPhone for my job, so these cases are invaluable to me.

The last Defender for the 3G that I had was like a tank. I am looking forward to either one of these cases.

Don't rule out the Contour Designs "Hardskin" case. I called them this morning and they should have them in stock the first week of August. I've been using the "Hardskin" on my iPhone 3G and 3Gs for a good while. And no, I don't work for them..:)
