Plunged!!

Ok, I've decided and took the plunge. No turnig back now.

I've ordered myself the Seidio Innocase Rugged Combo. Can't wait for it to reach me!! :D

I was going to look into the seidio case, but I liked the fact that they others had a built in screen protector.

Let me know how you like it after you get it...

Sounded pretty much like me when I was struggling whether to have a front faceplate protection or not.

In the end, I reasoned with myself, knowing that I would hate to have a lint magnet and to struggle pulling the phone out of my pants, I chose the Seidio since there's a spine and a fantastic holster.

FYI-

To people interested in purchasing SEIDIO or Otterbox products, this retailer is really great. They specialiaze in high-end phones and cases, and are located in NYC. I used to phyically walk down to their store when I was working in NYC, and have never been dissapointed.

They are selling the SEIDIO rugged set for 39.99 with 3.95 shipping:

http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=26848

..and the OTTERBOX Defender for $29.99

http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=26574

Definately worth it if you are in NYC (downtown on Walker St.), possibly worth it if you're ordering online.

otterbox defender is currently cheaper on Amazon. Do your research folks.

What's that have to do with research, 'folks'?

I'm sure that you can get it on ebay for even cheaper then amazon....or craigslist for even cheaper then ebay.

Also, the ones on Amazon that are cheaper don't fit the Verizon iphone.

Research whether a site is reputable or not, whether the price is good or not, etc.

I would rather buy from a reputable retailer than an unknown site that a newbie is pushing.......I didnt want to say it, but you wanted clarification. We have had many instances where someone who has just signed up starts pushing a site or product or service, we call it spam.

But you are right, i havent checked if the ones on Amazon fit the verizon iphone, so this may be a good deal, cheers.

For me, I always believe in purchasing from the manufacturer direct. In my instance, I ordered from Seidio direct. :)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not some richie rich. I'm just doubtful when things are too good to be true. That's me.

Definitely......I got my Atomic Hybrid direct (well the first one :D, got the second from a member here).

But I wont shy away from ordering it from a retailer or even ebay sellers as long as they have good reviews/feedback. I stay away from new sites, been burnt in the past.

It's here!

I just Unboxed the innocase rugged and I'm very happy it. :)

Two things, QUALITY AND GREAT WORKMANSHIP!

It does add bulk to the phone but I can tell u that this case is ready for a royal rumble. The silicone inner layer is of high quality and will not be a lint magnet. The added polycarbonate spine not only give additional protection but also enhances the overall aesthetic. The Surface II slidercase is easy to install and has felt covering the entire inner of the case, hence no worries about scratching. I can tell that a front and back screen shield on the iPhone would not be a problem for this slider.

The holster is also very well built and sturdy, the spring clip on the top features a lock to keep the iPhone from accidentally pulled out. I'm so glad I've made Seidio my choice, this is simply the best case I have. :)

I use the OB Defender (and I'm a girl btw)! I thought it would be very bulky but it's not really.... Anyway I wanted something that would protect my phone at work... and I work in a pretty destructive environment - I am a submariner in the Canadian Navy!! Picture working near lots of machinery, lots of hydraulic fluid, grease, everything is metal and if you drop an electronic device on board, you can be pretty sure that there WILL be damage if it isn't protected! I have used otterbox on my Blackberries on board before, and knew it would be a good case.

I don't usually use the holster as a belt clip, but I DO love how it doubles as a stand for watching media etc! It works great on an airplane - just stand it on the tray! I also use it by my bedside along with NightStand Pro as my main alarm clock / desk clock. And on board the sub, the holster clips on by my head in my bunk to keep the iphone secure. I don't know why people have said it doesn't lock very tight on the phone.... Mine certainly does. It's actually kind of hard to unclip it sometimes!

Updates on Seidio Innocase Rugged (Convert) after 3 months

Hi guys,

It's been 3 months since I received my Rugged, now known as Convert, and I'm please to inform that the case is still holding up well.

I only have one complain and it's about their holster. Overall it's still a great holster, compared to the many that are available out there, but after only 3 months of use ( considering I switch my cases pretty often ) the rotating clip has become quite loose. Any slight bump, knock or brush by the hand would cause the holster to rotate rather easily. With that said, I will still say this is still a better holster.

I'm currently waiting for my Survivor from griffin and will be testing it out for a while before reporting my opinion on it. Wonder how the experience would be like? :)

I've also noice a 50% promo on trident cases, specifically their kraken for iPhone 4. So if you are interested, this is the time to do it. Cheers.

I don't know why people feel the need to put their phones in such large, bulky cases. Unless you plan on dropping your phone out the window of a 5 story building, I don't see why you need such a protective case. Seriously, it's like wearing steal-toed boots around the house, or taking hummer to the grocery store. Do you really need that much protection

Hi Sixtafoua, I'm in the force and yes I do need that kind of protection. Hmmmm, I don't wear steel-toed shoes at home nor do I carry a hammer to the grocery store. Think I still can pay for my groceries, LOL !!! :D

Thanks for a timely BTT on this thread, I ordered the Siedio combo. I like the option of having something smaller if wanted, or the kid proof option! LOL!!

And hey, I wear combat books occasionally, but mainly, I'm coming from a very very rugged palm treo 700 that has been bumped out of my holster many times. I've gotten very used to wearing my phone on my waist and really not having to worry about it... I'd like to keep this one as long as the treo.

Well, not really, I know I'm going to hate myself for ordering the blasted iP4 this close to the 5, but i need something that works now.

A Little Review on the Griffin Survivor

Got my survivor for a while and here's my take on the case. Let's start with the good stuff, the silicone layer on the Survivor is truly an amour. It's so thick that I think without even doing an actual drop test, I swear that it would bounce off the floor if I happen get off the wrong side of my bed.

The polycarbonate layer is ok and does it's job. The revised version has this FlapSnap feature, basically it's an integrated hole on the case to keep the camera cover in place when opened (nice work Griffin!). So far I haven't had any bubbling problems with the screen shield. I already have anti-finger prints SH on my phone, so I'm not too sure if that actually helped to prevent bubbling (something for all to note). All the ports are properly and securely covered with silicone. Btw, the silicone attracts lint... But not that much, I've seen worse.

Now for the "need-to-improve" areas. First the beltclip needs to be bigger like those designed by Seidio. The survivor's beltclip failed to fit my 2" tactical belt, so basically this made the case unusable for my work. The Seidio Holster works some much better. For those who are wondering if the Survivor fits the Seidio Convert holster, I'm hate to disappoint but it doesn't. Second, still on the beltclip, the catch on top of the clip doesn't hold the clip opened at as advertised by Griffin Tech. I'm not too sure if mine is a faulty one or all their clips are like this? In any case, you don't need to have it stay open in order to use the video stand. :) Lastly, you intend to keep your phone in the pocket, this case will make it not so easy for you to get it out. Now imagine, if I can't use the clip and I happen to get hurt while on the job, I struggled to get that phone out of my pocket to make that life-saving call.......... Imagine..

With all factors weighed, the Griffin Survivor is still an excellent case for most users who seek that extra protection. For true military users or enforcers who wears thick belt as part of their uniform, the clip on this case is a no no. You will have to look elsewhere for a compatible holster. I hope Griffin is reading this and take a serious view on their holster design to truly claim their case for a full fledged military experience.

THanks for the further info on the Griffin, having just got my Seidio tonight I can say that is a hefty belt clip - I can see it stay on my BDU's!

I'm happy with the Convert/Rugged/whatever the heck the name really is . It seems like it will be easy enough to type on suited up, and the belt clip will stya one - even if it is a bit overkill for my current favorite shorts! I'm really liking the 2 stage case, I can see me using this a decent amount of time and the belt clip rocks. That I can lock it in there is even better!!

I didn't put the screen saver on - I hate the one my dad has on is 3GS and am reluctant to go there. I'll look at it this weekend I guess. Tomorrow will be my first outing with the phone so I will see how it works in my normal life. Hopefully I can avoid looking too geeky.... Although, function over form in the case of the portable brain.

All in all, again Walse, I thank you for the nudge in the Seidio direction, without it I would probably still be stressing about the blasted thing.
