Also I find it funny that he comes back here defending the crap out of himself for some reason. If it was a truthful story, i'm sure he would let it be and let people talk all the crap he wants. It's like he likes getting a rise out of people...

relax people

the op was just looking for some answers....why don't you guys read all the posts before posting? the OP said it may have been bent but they didn't know it cuz the case was on it all the time....
All i have to say is it sucks, but it happens to the best of em. nothing is indestructable....
hope they can fix it, but it looks like a new phone is in order with the bent casing and all...don't think apple will replace the glass since the casing is bent too...

Well, my friend dropped his iPhone4 today. Literally maybe 4 feet from the ground onto normal tile. (he tripped and it just landed flat). And the phone literally shattered. I thought the Otterbox was supposed to protect the phone from drops WAY crazier than that. The Otterbox was damaged too. I mean, if his phone wasn't in the case, MAYBE it would crack a bit from the fall. But I mean its SHATTERED.

Any comments? Ideas? This was just weird!

Here are pics of the device, if you want pics of the Otterbox I can get those too.

...

The device even BENT a bit...

So, I'm assuming he can just go to Apple. ...

Any help would be appreciated.
Anybody that owns or handles an iPhone 4\4s knows this isn't possible by dropping one from only 4' onto a flat surface. They're not made of some flimsy plastic! it's a metal casting that runs through the entire body of the unit, and it'll take a lot more force to bend it like that than a 4' drop. It looks more like somebody slammed it into the edge of a table [or tile] for some unknown reason. I'll even bet the Otterbox is damaged in a straight line that correlates with the bent frame. There's nothing Weird about it when you know the truth.

Here's the Help you ask for:

Your story sucks and won't convince even the slowest genius to replace it! It will more likely cause them to refuse a replacement because it's so obviously untrue. Think of a new story.

Edit: Maybe your 'Friend' didn't post because he knew he'd be ridiculed if he tried that line on anyone with an ounce of intelligence.

My kids have the otter box defender and lifeproof cases on 4S iPhones. They are 14 and 17 yrs old and they are kids and rough on thir phones. So far the phones are safe and sound. I would say that this damage did not happen as you discribed somply becasue I have dropped my 4S in an otter box defender and been saved many times. You friend is not being straight with us assuming you are. He packed a beat phone into an otter box and cryed wolf.

No way apple will stand behind that nore should they. I think it goes in the catagory of cruel and unusual punishment for any smart phone. I would go in be straight and hope you get a good guy.

I dropped my iPad2 3 months after release with just a smart cover. Dented the corner and damaged the screen. I told the truth and got a refurb. Next purchase was a defender case for that. it aint sexy, but it works!

He specifically stated...

Honestly, I'm not going to bother with pics of the case

In one of his many posts since opening the thread. Therefore I think there may be an element of stretching the truth here.

He said in the very first post:

Here are pics of the device, if you want pics of the Otterbox I can get those too.

So it is weird how he says he can get pics of the Otterbox, then later on says he won't bother.

Listen man, can you just put up a pic of the case. We aren't out to get you. Just post up a picture of the otter box.

Funny story but not true. I sell the otterbox case. If your friend had the defender. There is no way that could of happened to the iPhone. We test the cases all the time to sell them at my store and we throw out real live phones around the store to prove how good the case is.. And yes, we test real iPhone's.

If your friend had the otterbox.. This is what happened. He tripped w/e, dropped the iPhone w/ the case and then by accident stepped on it as well. He or you probably doesn't want to admit it. But that's the truth. What you're saying does not apply into scientific terms.

The thread should be changed to "Fail.. Phone shattered (pics)"

My friend was in a motorcycle accident in the fall that put him in the hospital for nearly a month. His iPhone in an otter box survived the accident and being thrown from my friends pocket during the crash. I hate how thick the otter box is (not my preference) but I have to give it credit.

happened to me too.

hey guys let up... same thing happened with my ipod touch 3g in a defender, only from 2.5 feet, and not as severe damage, just some dead pixels on the screen afterwards

I saw my friend trip. Normal fall. I would have expected a few scratches if the device was caseless, but it was in an OTTERBOX DEFENDER, the whole nine yards. Legit, less than a four foot drop..

I don't know if I believe this one, lol. Four foot drop?
Must of been a hard fall, and he smashed it to the ground.

Thats what my iPhone4 looked like after I crashed on my mountain bike and my buddy ran it over before I could grab it lol. And that phone was naked… The only way I could see that happening with a defender on is if it was curb stomped!

And yes apple did replace without charge. Even replaced the one my gf dropped in toilet. All I told the genius was the truth and also that the toilet>iPhone.

Maybe there was prior damage that wasn't seen before? Cause the device was fine before the drop. Completely normal. The case also cracked and broke. I don't have pics of that though

I know... Hey, not my phone, so I really don't know what damage it took before except for the fact that it was working perfectly before it fell tonight. Otterbox was totally intact, no scratches or cracks.
And again, maybe he just got unlucky. It's definitely plausible for something like that to happen if it just fell the wrong way...

Also... 'food' drop?

Make up your mind.

I read this thread earlier this morning with a healthy dose of disbelief and skepticism. Just an hour ago, I was at the gym running on the treadmill when somehow my earphones fell off, got tangled around my leg, yanked my iPhone off the treadmill "magazine stand" and kerplunk pretty damn hard onto the tread. And before I could even react, the phone ended up under my foot and my entire body weight! Needless to say I had a minor heart attack, and immediately I remembered the pics from this thread. Thankfully, not a bit of damage to the phone! Just a little bruising and some scratches to my SwitchEasy CapsuleRebel case.

This is actually my third incident with my phone in 2 weeks! First, I dropped my phone (no case this time) off the kitchen counter onto the tile floor. Not a single scratch or dent. A few days later, my entire bowl of tomato soup spilled onto the front of my phone. luckily I was able to dry it off really fast before any liquid went into the ports. And now this. My poor phone has been thru hell lately!

dropped from 4th storey balcony before and was no where near as bad as that. No way that was a 4 foot drop!
