Order mine from MacMall.....still says back ordered. I had a small chat form them and they are saying from 1-2 weeks, just not sure if that is from when I order it or from the release of the iPhone itself.

I love it. The new leather is very durable and awesome.

My Defender is scheduled for delivery tomorrow; I ordered via Verizon (workplace discount).

Whre can you do this? Online? or do you have to go in-store? Also, can you get the commuter at this point or just the defender? I just want a black commuter like my 4S had. I don't want to get it via amazon or macmall or otterbox b/c I get a discount via Verizon.

If you're eligible for an employee discount (based on the company you work) the discount should be applied online. Make sure you log in through your company's Verizon link - your HR office should know this or be able to point you to it. Once you're online via this link, Verizon will ask you to validate your company email address. Once you confirm this email address, Verizon online then asks you to register your phone number to that address. That will apply the company discount to both your bill and to any eligible accessories you order online.

It's not the most straightforward process. You may be able to go to a Verizon store, along with your company ID (or whatever) and do this in person - haven't tried that.

Thanks for the info! Very helpful!

Unfortunately, I don't have the link handy but now that you mention it, I do recall this magic link you're talking about lol. I've had to use it for something in the past. I'm already getting my discount off of my bill so I know it's valid and being counted by Verizon. I did buy my last commuter case in the store and didn't have to prove anything... they just pulled up my account and saw I was getting a discount and went ahead and gave it to me in-store.

Problem is, I'm sure I'm not going to be able to get my hands on one of these in the store as I'm sure they'll be sold out.

Oh well, if I get some time tonight I'll go hunting for that link and try to order it online through the store.

Thanks again for the info!

If you're already registered online, then I might suggest just trying to buy it online. I bought a Defender case. Full price was $50, discounted price was $37.50 (more or less). 25% off. I think they give you free two day shipping if it's in stock :)

Good luck!

well, that was actually pretty easy. I found the link, I entered my email address. I'm eligible for up to 25% off of accessories BUT when I hit the drop-down, Apple is not a choice.

I lol'd ;)

OK, I'm going to try this approach!

received the black Otterbox Commuter today for my husband's iPhone5. We've never had an Otterbox before, so I wasn't sure 100% what to expect but knew I wanted something durable for him. The back plastic and some of the sides are very much like the plastic on a remote control. The lip around the screen is flexible rubber/plastic (not gummy at all). Even if I try to crush it in my hand, there is no way I could so it is very sturdy. Nothing sharp on it, bevels are rounded around lens and apple logo hole. It's actually smaller and less bulky than I was expecting after hearing so many say Otterboxes are huge. It does come with a screen protector that isn't shown in the pics. I think this is a very nice case for my husband, but I personally will be waiting for the Speck cases as that is more my style. Here are some pics that I took-

I preordered a defender for my wife and I. Hers in the bolt color and mine in the glacier. Both from otterbox and got the email today mine has shipped but nothing on hers yet. I've always used a defender since the 3GS. I'm just gonna be mad 6 months down the road when they update the color selection like they did with the 4S ones.

Where did you find the Commuter online? I must be missing it!

I ordered the Otterbox Commuter from Amazon on Saturday and since I have a prime membership it arrived today. I see they are already sold out though but here is the link of the item.

thanks for the info...also does it look like that there is no port cover for the headphone jack on the bottom of the case like previous models ?

I have no knowledge on prior models, but there are definitely two holes there and no cover for a headphone jack on the commuter.

was asked for a pic of the side, so here it is-

Those two holes are for the speakers. You can make out the headphone and lightning port flaps in that photo. Only button exposed is the mute/vibrate switch.

juliebee, thanks for the wonderful closeup shots!

I think I want the commuter.

Few questions:

1. It looks a tad loose in a few of the pics... I'm assuming that's because the iphone isnt in it?

2. Is the exterior 100% hard plastic? As in its not squishy anywhere?

Thanks Julie

I pre-ordered the OB Commuter with a ship date go 9/21. I received a tracking number today showing delivery of 9/21. That was a nice surprise as I want to protect the phone fom day 1.

juliebee, thanks for posting those pics. I went ahead and ordered a Commuter. Though it's out of stock on Amazon's site. My iPhone 5 still isn't shipping for a while.

Got my shipping notice as well for my defender, day 1 protection will be nice.

I actually went naked with my iPhone 4 for the last month as a change of pace, taking off my Defender case. I liked it, but noticed more slightly small scratches in the light, so I think protection is a good idea.

1. I'm guessing the gaps will go away when the phone is in it, but since I have no experience with this case it is just a guess. I get the phone on Friday and will update with pics then. Those gaps are because there are 2 interlocking cases basically- the inner rubber/plastic case and the outer rigid plastic. which leads me to answer #2...

2. there is squishy (not gummy) rubber/plastic that is visible around the screen and a few side cutouts. On this pic maybe you can see where the rubber/plastic verses the hard plastic. The underside is full hard plastic.

Your welcome everyone. It's hard to buy something sight unseen so I thought showing the pics would help determine if it's something you are or aren't interested in. My husband liked it. He wanted something professional, black, and well known for good protection and this meets his approval.

I took a few more pictures. Here are the two interlocking cases separated for the Commuter. The one on the left is the rubbery one and the right one is the hard plastic one. In the one showing the bottom edge you can see the rubbery one covers the charger slot (I think?) to keep it protected.
