Somehow or other I in advertently put a file in the trash. I want to retrieve it but can't seem to find oujt how to remove it from the trash.:(
 
Right-click > PUT BACK

Yeah but

I tried the drag and drop and it keeps saying that it can not be opened as it is in the trash. And my prompts do not show a "put back".

I just bought a Mac Mini 2012, from a PB 10.5.8, this is new to me, cheers simsaladimbamba.

What OS, and might I ask what kind of a file, does it belong to the system for instance.
(You don't have to answer if you don't want)

Sounds like you're double-clicking, not dragging. What OS are you on? Put Back was introduced in 10.6. It's not always there, though, depending on the original location of the file.

Unless I am missing something the reason you cannot open the file is because it is still in the trash folder. Simply drag it from the trash to your desktop. Then double-click the file and it will open.

open trash click on the file pull it out of trash and on to the desktop ^



basically click and drag AS above ,
