At launch, the Apple TV app will have more than 150 3D movie and TV show options for Apple Vision Pro users to watch, Apple said today when it announced the Vision Pro launch date.

While the Vision Pro will work with any TV show or movie available through the Apple TV app on the device, specific titles have been updated with 3D that will make for an even more immersive experience. TV shows and movies that are not 3D will appear on a screen that "feels 100 feet wide," with the Vision Pro offering the resolution of a 4K TV for each eye, along with HDR support.

Apple has created Apple Immersive Video, a "new entertainment format" that is designed to put users inside action with 180-degree 3D 8K video recordings that have been captured with Spatial Audio, plus there will be interactive experiences like "Encounter Dinosaurs."

As for gaming, the Vision Pro will support more than 250 titles on Apple Arcade, with the content able to be played in 2D using a game controller. There are also select "spatial games" that have been created for the device, including Game Room, What the Golf?, and Super Fruit Ninja. Apple says that these games take advantage of the Vision Pro's capabilities to transform the space around players, providing "unique and engaging gameplay experiences."

The Vision Pro is set to launch on Friday, February 2, with Apple to begin accepting pre-orders on Friday, January 19. At launch, the Vision Pro will only be available in the United States.

The strength of this product is its ability to plug into the existing ecosystem. Being able to send messages to anyone on basically any messaging platform (iMessage obviously, but Slack, Discord, FB Messenger, and any other iOS/iPadOS messaging app), and especially all of the productivity apps that exist for iOS/iPadOS, is insane… my entire iPad productivity pipeline should be ready day 1.

Logging in with my Apple ID and everything being available to me sounds awesome.

I hope devs don’t block this platform arbitrarily. I’m already doubtful that Nintendo games will make their way over, even the iPad versions. They don’t support controllers usually anyways.

Odds are this doesn't support 3D content (note that I mean the 3D movie formats available on discs over the years, it obviously does 3D stuff), as AppleTV doesn't do that (yet, there was 3D stuff in a tvOS beta). But, if Apple is smart, they will create an easy way to translate a 3D movie into the AppleTV format...that would mean that all of those old 3D movies would be available for this, and having content is going to make or break it for at least some consumers.

It will be interesting to see how this shakes out, Apple won't sell a lot of these but if they can make them awesome then the consumer version will sell like hotcakes, even if it's not as good. Whether it becomes another iPod or iPhone is going to depend on making it worthwhile to purchase, instead of a toy for people with the cash to burn.

Man, for all of the Apple crap I buy, I just don't know if I can justify the amount of money they are asking for for this thing. I'd honestly feel back buying it and then returning it. I am very curious about it though.

Well, if it is productive on iPad does not mean that it will productive in the AVP, I really have concerns about usability regarding doing some real productivity stuff (not just sending messages, web browsing etc).

Looking back, yes, they both were. Butterfly keyboard Mac? From the first day, no, wrong was my view and I was right. I can't be right all the time though when it comes to Apple, eventually I will get it wrong.
The first iPhone was a brick. They peaked at the iPhone 4/4s and the iPhone 6/6s. The iWatch has always been mediocre, largely due to the poor battery life that has always plagued it. The iPad peaked before they started to put the camera warts on the back.

All of my iPad accessories will work with the Vision Pro (except the Pencil). So if the apps work with Keyboard / Mouse / Trackpad on iPad it’ll be the exact same apps on Vision Pro. Including access to the Files app, no? Gamepads too - my PlayStation controllers will work.

Seems good to me.

Smart phones existed, smart watches existed - spatial computing devices, nope…

Only time will tell, I am absolutely planning to demo it, not sure about buying one
