There are plenty of jailbreak FAQs and tutorials out there that can answer any questions you have. If this was really a widespread issue in the U.S. there would be a lot of discussion here about the topic for sure.

I'm not personally worried about it. There have also been instances in the past where a patch was released in Cydia to patch vulnerabilities. If this becomes so serious, I'm sure Saurik will remedy it.

Don't go for the "free" stuff, and you'll be in a better position. It's only going to be as widespread as the people that download and install the malware. That's kinda common sense.

I wouldn't be surprised if it originated in the 3K pirated store app/repo that the jailbreak tries to get you to install. Needless to say that was the first thing I was certain to not install when jailbreaking.

It's just not just free stuff though...no? I mean...even with paid hack or whatever...people are still vulnerable.

I mean, getting an app to bypass paying for other stuff on the app store or IAP. Yes, anyone that jailbreaks is vulnerable if they aren't aware of what they are installing. My phone isn't any more vulnerable because of the jailbreak compared to a stock iOS phone.

you mean pirating? If so, would you consider those free hack configuration that comes with jb-ing part of bypassing for the stuff or no? I'm asking because I like to know the difference. If I purchased a hack to allow me to play mi-fi controller (ps3 controller) with iPad....is that same?

it's becoming a widespread.

No, it's not. The only people that may be making it seem widespread is the media because as usual they have no idea what the **** they are talking about.

Your average jailbreaker has not much to worry about, really nothing from this. The one thing that all jailbreakers should do is change the root password, but assuming you do that, you are relatively safe.

I would bet that very few if any of the jailbreakers on this forum (myself included) are actually worried about this. Unless you downloaded 1 of those 2 tweaks whose sole purpose was to get free paid apps - aka stealing - you're fine. Anyone with a half brain knows that free paid apps are too good to be true and wouldn't want to steal them anyways. I'd bet the only people crying about this are the ones stupid enough to try it. The red flags were there, it's like an IQ test.

Can you say with absolutely sure that getting apps to PIRATE is the ONLY way to get compromised?

No.

Can you say with absolute certainty that your unjailbroken phone isn't compromised either? No, you can't either. My phone is just as secure as yours.

Nothing in this world is 100% certain other than death, taxes, the fact that you need to eat food and drink water to survive.

If you download and install something you're not familiar with being secure, then you run the risk of being exploited beyond the intention of the jailbreak purposes.

Obviously the kid does care. Otherwise he wouldn't be trying to pick a fight with us all over something that has no effect on him.
actually, I wasn't. Perhaps, you were? I was merely stating an opinion. If you didn't like, you didn't have to respond, yes?
