ok ill be intalling xp for my windows partition as they have told me is a lot better for gamming than w7... will this OC guide work for me?
I would go for windows 7 honestly. It runs about the same, its much much better then vista which did suck at gaming. Windows 7 offers some benefits as well such as the option of DiractX 10/11 ( gpu only supports up to 10.1 ) and some games will take advantage of this in fact some newer games are ONLY DX 10 and if you install windows xp then you won't be able to play these games.

Has anybody had any problems with Lubbos Fan control? For some odd reason, it's not giving me temps or proper fan control. Maybe I am not installing it right, but something is definitely awry.

I have problems with Lubbos too. it makes me cancel out of bootcamp.exe before running correctly.

I have not had this problem but as I think other users have posted if you run SMC fan controller on mac and set the RPM up the whole way and then restart into windows it should still keep those fan settings.

I also have problems, they don't seem to work. I just don't use them at all now.

Urgent Problem

I am running a 2010 macbook, with x64 Windows 7 Enterprise in Boot Camp. I was following the initial instructions, and when i uninstalled the drivers and restarted my computer, windows did not recognize the graphics card; no "New Hardware Found" wizard shows up. Now it only has the VGA graphics adapter and I don't know what to do. I hope I don't have to reinstall windows. When I uninstalled the graphics adapter I checked the box for "remove drivers" if that is relevant, I assume that is what was called for.

Please help if you know anything.

Well you have to install the bootcamp drivers from the OSX Install DVD.

there is a reason why apple has limited the frequency of their GPUs in their Macs. i think that they would underclock their GPUs for a reason, dont you?

It's called battery life. Why else would they do it if the manufacturer has a stock frequency and Apple underclocks it on purpose.

Please help! Getting temp in 90s with OC of 330m playing SC2

Hey guys, wondering if you can help with this since I don't see anyone else mentioning temps this high. My specs are below.

I followed the directions in this post by GatePC and his directions did work, and I used the modified latest drivers from laptoptogo (258.96), and I was able to overclock the gpu on the windows side. I'm using Vista 32-bit (I know, but that's the only Windows OS I have). I didn't even OC it much, just 550 on the core and 1200 memory, and all was well. The framerate noticeably improved and I was able to play SC2 on mostly high settings (including shaders) with FPS ~ mid 30s and lowest mid 20s. I was a happy camper until I checked my temp via the Nvidia monitor, and noticed it went up to 92C at one point! At first, I thought this was because I was playing on 1080p on my HDTV, but I played again and it went to 88C on native screen.

A couple notes: I did not modify fan speed (allowing the native algorithm to run).

I have a Core i5 15-inch MBP, 2.4GHz, high-res matte screen, 320 GB HDD, Vista 32-bit under bootcamp. Playing in native res.

How come my temps are running so high? I know YMMV but I haven't even OC'ed it half of what people on this forum are doing successfully with stable temps in the 70s. Also, could it possibly be the fact that I'm using the latest drivers and maybe I need to use the older driver people are mentioning on this site? Is it possible I need to monitor my temps with another program other than the Nvidia one?

Thanks for any help!

i know that Apple underclocked the 330m card. does that mean if we oc it, itll basically be the standard clock running instead, hence safe?

fyi i oc'd the hell out of my ASUS F3 (3 years now) and the GPU has completely fried...

I would not worry about it unless your temperature is consistently over 100C for a continuous amount of time.

Can anyone work out when i uninstall the driver it reboots and auto installs a new driver and wont let me update that driver to the custom one?

it says windows has worked out that you are currently running the best driver.

the tool from nvidia wont do anything with the one currently installed

Can't you install the new driver withtout rebooting ?

modified INF not nessesary?

Let me start by saying that this is a great thread with a lot of good info, but let me post on my experience with all this: first, im running Win7 with a 9600GT on a 15" MBP. Yes, I know it different than the 330M we are talking about, but same driver, same platform, same method to OC. That said, I installed all the Bootcamp drivers, went to add/remove programs and removed all the NVidia drivers and downloaded the new drivers from their website, where, at the bottom, it said that the drivers allow for overclocking. I benchmarked my machine 3 times and consistently scored between 6030-6080. Then I OCed it using MSI Afterburner to 610/1325/800 and scored ~6500, then went to 625/1425/825 and scored ~6800-6900, consistently. A LOT simpler than the method described above; just install the NVidia official drivers and MSI Afterburner and go. The OC stays after restarts into the Mac OS and back, and games have been running noticeably better. Temps are in the low 90°Cs, which I know is a little high, but I'm getting the unit exchanged for a 2.8GHz 15" i7 by Apple, so I dont care if I burn it out. Time to see how high this thing will really go...

EDIT: used 3DMark06 for benching, just so we're all on the same page as far as bench numbers goes.
EDIT 2: Just got my i7 w/ 330M today, will report back here if the same method that worked for my 9600GT (i.e., using the stock Nvidia driver) works on this new machine.

Hello,

I just got my Macbook pro 15 inch 2.4Ghz with 330M GT for some weeks now.
And I wanted to play some games in Bootcamp so I thought of overclocking my card as well.

First of all I wanted to ask if someone else also had downclocking problems? It seems to be related to this new called 'powermizer' feature. It seems mine just underclocks without reason, not temperature related. When I'm idle it drops back to 450Mhz (core) and the rest goes down as well. And When im trying to start a game again, it just sticks there until i reboot. I cannot change it no matter what clock-setting program I use.

I have now redeemed this problem by using a program called NVPMManager.

Anyways I wanted to post my clockresults as far as I tested for now (Stable)

670MHz Core
1060MHz Memory (Seems to be quite good DDR3/5 memory?)
1500Mhz Shaders (It seems i can go up to 1520MHz but I get some glitches then after a while).

GPU Temperature: Mostly stays at 69C while playing GTA4 but can go to 73C MAX after a long while. (Ambient chamber temperature of 22 degrees)

I will post some 3Dmark05 and 06 scores as soon as i finished downloading em :)

Edit: Ok here they come, it seems im even outranking the i7 Macbook Pro users :p
3DMark05: 15559
3DMark06: 8280

They can be found in the Futuremark ORB Database.
Im very pround of my little Mac.

(For the GTA4 / EFLC users, I can play quite smooth on the following settings:)
Resolution Native 1440x900
Texture Mode: Medium
Shadows: Medium
Reflections: Low
Detail Quality: 50
Detail Distance: 15 (Because of the lack of more video memory, I can make this higher but it wont have any effect except for more buildings and textures trying to popup out of nowhere, 512MB users should have more luck)

Cool thread but i have no interest in overclocking on the MBP, however I just ran 3m'06 and I think my system is scoring way to low!

Its the 17'' i5 (512mb 330m + SSD), and its scoring 5500. Im on win7 x64(bootcamp) and 260.99 nvidia notebook drivers. Here are my results http://3dmark.com/3dm06/15178205 - Should this alright for my system?

Gonna dl and run vantage now

I know its the end of the year now. Today I have downloaded and installed HWmonitor and Nvidia Tools. My question is, in Nvidia Tools I'm given the option to overclock without a hitch. I haven't downloaded drivers from laptop2go and my cards driver is from the nvidia website. Should I overclock or not? Any insight would be appreciated. i have a MBP 15 i7 GT 330m 512mb 4GB Ram.
