do you fill up the tank in your car before you come home for the day? What if you need enough charge on your phone in an emergency in the middle of the night?

It does still affect the battery cells themselves. Slower charging = less heat and the cells won’t age/degrade as fast. This will have an impact over a long period of timeUnlike the old phones the 17s have a vapor chamber and made out of aluminum. With these changes the extra heat generated by the 20W or higher is no longer an issue. Also, it doesn’t charge at the full peak current till it’s full so whatever heat is generated only last for a few mins which is in turn dissipated quickly on the new models.
So my suggestion is to feel free to use 20W charger. Only thing to look out for is those think Otterbox cases that don’t let the phone breathe. Besides that, knock yourself out.
I would think the Apple brand one would be the bestThank you everyone!
So most important thing is not to let the battery drain lower than 25%
Now what is the best 5Watt charger that won't catch on fire? Or is there a programmable charger that I can set to 5W?
Go with an official Apple 5w charger. There are a lot of TEMU cheapo gas-station style chargers out there that may damage your device in the long run. I always stick with Apple, Belkin or Anker.Thank you everyone!

Don't worry about it! Don't listen to the people in this thread obsessing over their batteries and spending their time babying every aspect of their phone.
These phones are designed to be used normally. Battery health is pure luck unless you seriously abuse it, like leaving it at 100% or 0% for days, or leaving it to roast in a hot car.
Live your life and enjoy your phone!
That’s not true. Avoiding heat will increase battery life span. They are designed to be used but there are always optimal conditions vs. non-optimal. In the case of the battery, it will last longer the less it is exposed to heat, period. Charging slowly will make a difference. It’s the chemical design of the battery.
I used an anker 20w and left my 16 pro max on it every night and was at 99% after a year. It will be fine!
i used a 5w over night on my 15pro max and it dropped to 87% health in only 230 charges although then stayed there up until i traded it in with 400 cycles. So honeslty i do think its partly luck and partly some weird way apple measure it. Honeslty ive got a 17pm now and yes i do have some weird battery health anxiety but im trying to just ignore it and use itDon't worry about it! For me, it's less about the price and more about the careless Geniuses that end up damaging the phone's finish during the replacement. Any way to prolong the interval helps a bitBut most people here are also right... For $99 you can get a new battery
I use whatever charger is available, last couple of nights I have been charging my 17 PM with my MBA’s 30W charger, did the same with my 15 Pro Max and battery health is still good, my 15 PM is now at 90% health with over 550 cycles. At night I sleep 6-7hrs. So even if my new IPhone 17 Pro Max was at 1% charging using a 5Watt would bring it up to my 80% max charge limit.
I want to know if there is any advantages of using the original apple 5W or it worse?
My other option is the Apple 20Watt.
Thoughts?
Is it better to have lower heat over a prolonged period? or higher heat over a shorter period? have no idea just asking. maybe 5W charger with a fan is theThe slower the charger - the better. Companies will never tell you this because it leads to them losing profits. 5W is much better for battery in long run. I mostly use old 5W, 10 or 12W Apple bricks to charge my iPhone, rarely I also use 15W Samsung charger.
It seems like phone charges much faster at 5W when it is turned off, not sure what is the reason. Heat during charging is also significantly reduced
Does charging slow make it worse tho bc you have to charge for so long? maybe best is charge with a fan or ice pointed at it?That’s not true. Avoiding heat will increase battery life span. Apple hasn't included a charger with the phone in years.... where have you been lolJust use the charger that come with your phone…
That’s not a fair comparison because filling up your gas tank from empty takes a couple of minutes. Charging your drained battery takes over an hour even at the fastest charging speed, but can take a couple of hours with other chargers. Also, for most people, a full tank of gas will last several times longer than a fully charged phone will. A half a tank of gas would get me through most of the week, but a 50% charged phone likely wouldn’t get me through a whole day.do you fill up the tank in your car before you come home for the day?
That was the joke. 😬Apple hasn't included a charger with the phone in years.... where have you been lol
Does that mean if your phone came with no charger, you have the perpetually full battery? Asking for a friend.Just use the charger that come with your phone…

Anyways I always charge with an old school 5W brick overnight. Using a USB A to USB C cable.... my phone has also never been on a wireless charger. The result so far is 99% battery health with 360 cycles on my 16PM
