Just pressed the purchase button on my new iMac 5K...now the agony of waiting for it to ship begins.

Congrats WAPilot! Enjoy! :)
Let us know what you think of it once you've had a play.
I'm toying with the idea of getting one. So tempted. :apple: :D

If only this was doable for the new MM. Audio guys need 32GB but don't need 5K. Most don't even need a monitor as they already have one. So this is amazing for photogs and video editors but not so good for the audio guys. 32GB for a MM or even a non retina iMac would be so amazing. Sort of stuck with 16GB MM or an iMac with a display you don't need and zero portability that you get with the MM. Dang, so close yet so far.

Audio guys need 32GB? That seems excessive. There's still guys running all 32 bit DAWs.

Yes it would. Unauthorized modification voids warranty.

You don't know what you're talking about.

$400 seems pricey after paying $200 for 32gb for my late 2012 iMac right when it came out.

RAM prices have't been that low in a couple years. They were super low in 2012 though.

You don't know what you're talking about.

Yes, I do. You didn't follow the context correctly. Unauthorized modification, in this case, OWC upgrading the new Mini to a quad core as suggested by FloatingBones, would void the warranty as it would constitute an unauthorized modification. Apple specifically disclaims the warranty in the event of unauthorized modification.

As for adding RAM to the iMac, of course it does not void the warranty, as Apple provides instructions on how to do it and explicitly lists the RAM as being user-serviceable. The RAM is, IIRC, the ONLY user-serviceable part on the iMac.

What is everyone's estimated delivery dates for their new iMac?

Mine is 29th-31st. Wondering if that's normal

RAM upgrades aren't unauthorized. Look it up. Call Apple. Do a live chat. Ask them yourself.

Try reading what's written.

I wrote that an (as yet hypothetical) OWC quad-core upgrade to the Mini would void the Apple warranty as an unauthorized modification. In the next paragraph, I write that Apple explicitly does permit users to upgrade RAM on the iMac by providing instructions on how to do it and by listing RAM as a user-serviceable part.

Oh, Mini. Thought you were talking about iMacs. I put no thought to the Mini. I kinda forget it even exists.

then you don't do audio lol

Audio guys certainly could use 32GB more than photogs. That's not even a debate. Video guys and photogs don't NEED 32GB. But it sure is nice.

OK, I bet you $1 million it doesn't.

Depends on what you're talking about.

If upgrading RAM on an iMac, you'd win.

But if talking about OWC offering a (hypothetical) quad core upgrade to the new Mini, yes, it would.

Sigh.

You might try reading everything in context . . .

I did.

He said he bets that it voids warranty and you said it does.

Nothing to indicate sarcasm or a joke either.

We were talking about RAM upgrades..
