I've bought RAM from them, and had very-good results.
Question: I've tried to go to the site several times over the past several hours, and cannot get through...does anyone know if something's happening over there?
Thanks!

It took a long time, but eventually this page opened for me. I would be pretty annoyed if I wanted to buy something from them today. Seems like a tech company could upgrade their site without this kind of disruption, but I'm probably missing something.

There ARE times when it's a good idea to 'take a break' and make things better. All kinds of things that DO work really well, do not always behave that way unless they are taken care of. With a website like OWC, I'm with you @ hoping that they'd do their maintenance during REALLY 'off hours', but this may be one of those times that they really had to do it, NOW!

I have done some business with them, and plan to again. I have a good feeling about them, and that's something that I cannot say about many, other sites. I've also sent them a few emails, and they respond quickly and with good, complete info.

I've always wanted a 2015 15" MacBook Pro, and if I actually buy one, it will probably be from them.

My experiences with OWC/MacSales have all been very good but have seen posts from others who were not happy, so (as always): caveat emptor. I got a used top-spec 2012 quad Mini from them back around 2015-2016. Used it heavily for a few years with Logic and FCP, now it runs 24/7 as a file server/time machine destination on my LAN.

Best of luck getting everything else going. I've bought RAM before and have always appreciated OWC's support of the forum.

Two things spring to mind:

  • Large complex legacy websites are much harder to manage than people realize and the teams doing so are far smaller than you might expect. There may even just be one person trusted to do the most difficult things.
  • Ransomware.

Still down. Both macsales.com and owc are non-responsive. And I got a strange pop-up regarding MalwareBytes saying that it was incompatible with SoftRaid. My RAID would not create a new Lightroom import because this popup was causing issues with the RAID. MalwareBytes had a report two years ago, but there was no resolution. Seems very strange -- something is going on.

And the link in the warning goes nowhere.

I had just purchased a new laptop battery a couple of hours before the outage. I see the money gone from my bank account however I received no confirmation email and can't get through to anyone at macsales.com to verify. @OWC Larry please help.

No response from tech support email. Are they even in business? I had to completely re-certify my drives after a failure and after a week of waiting I went to manage license and website isn't available...... looks like I have another 20 days or so on "trial"
Anyone else know if this is truly just an website outage, or a business outage... lights off type of outage... Just asking

If it's a lights out kind of thing, I don't think we'd see a parked page appear as has been reported above. It has since vanished and returned.

This sort of website peek-a-boo is the kind of thing you would see if the Web team was convinced they were 30 minutes away from getting it restored... except a day later they're still 30 minutes from resolution.

Give up... park the page... try again to launch the site... uppps still not working... change the network settings to park it again (these things take hours to take effect and everything will hang in the meantime).

We posted this dialog box, when one of the apps we detected caused an issue where the SoftRAID Application cannot launch, so users can be educated about this problem. The link is temporarily unavailable.

A couple years ago, we discovered several anti-malware apps blocked the SoftRAID Monitor from being a startup (Launch Agent) app. They should not be doing this. Mac Cleaner is also on this list, as the app "offers" to remove the SoftRAID Monitor, we have asked to white list SoftRAID Monitor, but it has not happened yet.

If an anti-malware app is blocking the monitor, the symptom is the SoftRAID Application will not launch. This has no impact whatsoever on the functionality of SoftRAID volumes, they will still function normally.

If the SoftRAID Application can launch, you are not currently affected by this. Some anti-malware companies fixed this and alerted us, others have said nothing, and until we hear from them, with a fix version, we are leaving this notification up.

So your Lightroom issue must be a separate issue.
The reason the link does not work go back to our site being temporarily unavailable, which we are working hard on correcting.

Here is our current posting on the web site issues

It has been an a very frustrating few days. We are absolutely still here, even shipping - but with a very diminished network capability - that is taking longer to restore than was anticipated. We thought we were past this after our weekend challenges and ultimately had to address this further beginning yesterday afternoon.

The team here is working diligently around the clock with first class resources brought to bear to bring resolution as soon as humanly possible.

No one, least of all the the OWC team and I, want to see this outage go on a millisecond faster than it needs to. We'll be back online at the soonest possible moment. I appreciate any understanding and support. Thank you!

Just tripped over this while trying to find an enclosure for something.

Either they got hacked and their back end systems are out or their business is hosed. I suspect the former rather than the latter. There were a few high profile e-commerce sites taken out here in the UK which are still not operating after ransomware attacks recently.

Have you ever had this strange feeling that the person you're talking about is right behind you? Don't you hate it when that happens?

Nah, it's probably just paranoia.

Nope. I look after things much much larger than OWC. If they are down that long they are losing money and customer confidence and that's not a sustainable position. Something happened.
