Things like these make me bitter that everything these days is soldered on to the Motherboard.... I'll likely stick with my 2015 mac till that changes.

Wait why would you be bitter if it doesn’t affect you?

I can't imagine why someone would buy this when the sintech NVME adapter exists.

Because they don’t know the Sintech adapter exists? #olds

Gentlemen,

I am e-mailing with your support for almost a full year now due to constant hibernation/sleep mode issues with no solution so far. My 2014 MBP is very unreliable and almost unusable due to this.

This is really ridiculous.

I already contacted my local dealer who installed the SSD in July 2018 to arrange a replacement with the X2 and expect this to be a smooth process without any discussion.

I heard that you have great customer service. So far this only extends to useless sudo commands but no real helpful actions. I hope you show us here that you are serious about customer service!

Early summer? The summer solstice was on Friday, early summer has been and gone.

There is no driver they can create to resolve the issue. It comes down to firmware and Apple isn’t going to add the support for models that don’t already have it so the only solution is to flash your ROM by yourself.

I’m disappointed OWC is not providing a disclaimer as I thought they were a reputable company.

Agree.. this is my own fault, but I should have read ALL of the posts. Not just the beginning up until an OWC tech said it’ll work. I installed the 2TB kit Tuesday, and used Amphetamine to keep everything active while Spotlight was indexing and to allow time to get my Time Machine backups in order, and take my time getting any other apps configured.
Whelp, turned off Amphetamine yesterday and went to use my mid-2015 rMBP and it’s not waking from sleep. I was able to reproduce the issue again by allowing it to go to sleep under normal set times, and then tried again waking from sleep... womp womp

I’m still on the fence as far as if I should return it or not. Doubling my storage capacity and turning off Hibernation orrrrr halving my storage with the Apple SSD.. I keep mine in a 12South stand connected to an OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock with an assortment of external drives and a Magic Trackpad & Keyboard. I can just have Amphetamine set to start enabled at login with the screensaver set to come on and screen set to go off at normal times and disable Disk Sleep and Hibernation in Settings. I guess. I’d call this a bait & switch, but again, my own bad for not reading up thoroughly on this. I just kind of assumed that a well renowned company making a claim that their product does what it’s supposed to, would do what it’s supposed to..

There are two definitions of the seasons, one based roughly on the length of the day and the temperature and the other based on the Earth's celestial position. According to the latter, summer starts on 21 June.

I wasn’t saying it was your fault just that I think OWC is full of it if they say they can resolve the issue with a driver of their own.

You can disable standby, hibernate, and auto power off via the terminal with the pmset command. Your MBP will be able to sleep but not enter standby/hibernation. The problem is the effect on battery life when not plugged in since it will never enter deep sleep.

Does the Hibernation or sleep mode affect a 13 inch early 2015 Macbook Pro ? [MacBook Pro 12,1 if I open the system preferences] I have read the entire thread but I'm not a « tech enthusiast », so not completely sure to understand all the fuss with it. Thus, I'm not sure if the hibernation bug will affect my mac. Maybe good to say that I'm only willing to upgrade because I need the day-to-day storage (lots of big files), but I do not seek extreme efficiency.

My brother told me he'd help me upgrading the SSD if I end up buying a new one (he's good with this kind of stuff ha!).

Thanks! :)

I’m really sad that this never got resolved. I’d love to get more speed or space on my 2013 MBA, but not if I have to worry about hibernate problems.
