Is it possible to own multiple copies of the same steam game on the same account? I have two comps and want to have a friend over to play Civ 5 multiplayer with him. He doesn't have a computer. I don't see how to get another license so that we can play multiplayer without disconnecting the host game. I know that he can make his own steam account but I would rather have it on my account as I will probably be the one paying for the other copy. The only option I see on steam is gift for a friend.

unfortunately i dont think you can.

i have a similar but different problem, i want to buy another copy of anno 2070, because although its through steam, it actually intalls from origin. somehow i used one email address when setting up origin for anno, then got a few more games from humble bundle and forgetting i'd already got an origin account i set up another one.

id happily delete it if i could and buy another copy when its on sale just to fix this...

Thanks for the reply.

What if I bought a copy of the game on DVD for the windows computer and played the steam version on the Mac and tried to do multiplayer that way. Would there be any compatibility issues there? Or does steam only multiplay with steam versions?

Even if you buy the DVD, it's still a Steam game. All it does is save you a download.

But you can't play the same game online on two different computers using the same account at the same time. The operating system isn't relevant. The only way to have the same game running twice on the same account is if one account is in offline mode, but that doesn't help for this question.

I guess I can either create another steam account using another email or just have my friend create his own steam account, that way we can be notified if Civ 5 goes on sale again. I was just thinking of the DVD as it is $35 on ebay for Civ 5 complete and it's still $50 on steam.

Thanks Eric.

That's the way to do it.
