Not allowed to discuss what?
Dont know if you should return it but this is why we are no longer ALLOWED To know how long our battery lasts, without doing a tremendous amount of math, unlike before when it specifically told you. Oh well. We have MUCH bigger problems right now and I assume I am not allowed to discuss them.

There’s a lot of ridiculous speculation in this post regarding why they changed it...

It would be easy enough for them to add a number back showing screen time since last charge, but the changes overall are a benefit especially if you are a person who charges the phone all the time. It gives it much more potential to provide better reporting stats. I imagine updates will come that will allow things like custom filters.

Graphs/reporting like this seems to be a growing trend in the tech world now. Big companies want more data and fancy ways to show it. To me, it’s a good sign of growth.

Can more XS owners post their graphs? Also, how much do iPhone batteries drain overnight (assuming not at 100%)?

This is mine on the XS Max at 30%.

Can you post the other page graphs too?

That’s not normal. When my iPhone X was on iOS 11.3 I lost 0-2% tops. And if I was at 100% it would always be 0%.
It's because I get like 3,000 notifications a day. Even during the night is is consistantly getting notifications so for me it's not a big issue as i normally charge every night

My phone off charge at 6am will still last me until 23:00/mid night so for me thats all I need.

Average screen time per day is around over 4 hours screen time.

How can you get 3000 notifications a day?!

It varies though

Since the change of the battery stats I’ve stopped using my phone at midnight till I wake up and unplug.

So if I go to my stats on the last 10 days and select the current day it gives me my correct usage for the current day since the last full charge. I do this every day now. Usually I also use a smart battery case.

But for this screenshot of my iPhone 7 that has a brand new battery I took the smart battery case off to see what I’d get. So this is for 1 full day of usage from midnight till 11:58pm. 3.5 hours screen on with 11% left. Some of it Pokémon go. I’m guessing with light use and no Pokémon go I could get close to 6 hours screen on time with my 7. Not bad.

I don’t get why you guys are so confused over the new battery stats? Sure it’s a little different and if you have charged in the middle of a day you do need to do more work and go on the graph and manually add up your times. Otherwise if you are like me and don’t use your phone at midnight till you wake up you will be fine selecting the current day in the last 10 days section to find your current usage since last full charge for that 24 hour day.

I did not know that was there. (Using iOS 9). That was nice, but I have been trying to see how long does the new phones last to compare that to mine, and I have no idea, because nobody shares that.
I just add up the per hour graph, and most have been terrible (4-6 hours on any of the newest phones with like 20% left. I'm getting 3 more hours on my 6s on iOS 9). But again, I have no idea if I'm reading it right, because everyone shares the same useless graph. This was a horrible change by Apple. (Well, most - not to say all - changes have been horrible, in my opinion).

Before iOS 12 it records all screen on and screen off usage as the usage under usage and standby time. So whenever your phone is awake that number is going to be ticking up. The phone being “awake” meaning the screen is on, or screen is off and something is going on in the background. So you will always see higher usage times on prior iOS versions before 12 since those numbers are combined. I used to be obsessed with that number and checked it a lot!

The new way shows the screen on time mostly accurately but the screen off time tracking correctly has been hit and miss. Sometimes I’ll listen to podcasts for a couple hours with the screen off and it’ll only show like 45 minutes or less of screen off time for that time period. It’s been wonky and clearly it’s still a little buggy.
[doublepost=1540148271][/doublepost]Yeah people need to stop looking at the last 24 hours because it’s bleeding together the previous days usage with the current and nobody can seem to comprehend that! Just look at the last 10 days and click on your day to get the usage for that DAYS 24 hour usage during that time!! I agree it’s different from before but I do understand it and I think people can grasp it if they try.

I knew the previous behaviour, but I didn't remember that the off-screen usage was broken on iOS 12. Maybe that's why it seems I'm getting much more usage.
Still, the change is far more convoluted, doesn't even work correctly, and is largely inaccurate. Nobody unplugs their phone at exactly 00:00 and plugs it in at 23:59. New stats are impossible to compare with the previous ones. Which means, there is no way to know usage - with or without the screen being on - since last full charge, or in one charge. Only the approximate result. If your cycle lasted around 00:00-23:59 then it is useful. Anything other than that, the stat is as good as none, because I can check previous days, but let's say I unplug at 00:00, and plug it in the next day at 14:00, than whatever stat the phone is offering won't be accurate.

Right. The only way to get the usage since the last full charge in that case is to find on the graph when you were at 100% and unplugged then click on each individual bar graph of usage per hour and manually add up the screen on and off usage times to achieve this.

I do that. Results are awfully bad on most of the newest devices, compared to my 6s on iOS 9. That's why I thought the feature didn't work. Seemed odd. Similar? Yes. Few iPhones brought improvements if we measure them all by battery life on Original iOS versions. (You can check each specific thread when released. They are all similar). But none really regressed. This seems a regression. Hence why I was puzzled.
I did try an iPhone X and battery life seemed far worse than my 6s. Gave me 5 hours of usage.

I think battery on iphone xs sucks. This is way too little for normal use. Anyone got some official reply from Apple about xs battery life?

Mine is terrible also, I understand my device is now a year old, my battery health is now 89% capacity and don’t last a day, I may go and have a new battery fitted or sell my Xs and buy an iPhone XR/11.

Adam.

I’m pretty confident just a fresh battery would increase your SOT by 2+ hrs.

I turned it off and left it off for few hours. Now it seems a little better. So it might be that only turning off and on doesnt kill all processes in background. But must be off few more minutes.

Small capacity plus age = mediocre battery life. This is one aspect where Android kills iPhones.
