I'll enjoy my ****** image retention screen, too.

Whatever happened to the class-action on that?

Also, are the 2013 models infected with image retention issues?

I used to have image retention on my 2012 model. Not anymore with the new one. But I don't know if I was lucky to get a good one this time around, or if they are all good on this version.

Im glad I skipped on this model. Hopefully next year when Broadwell comes, there will be a bigger improvement in graphics than a 750M....

This happened on mine yesterday, had to to the old press 'n' hold with the power button. Was surprised as didn't get it on my 2012 model and always thought it to be more a Windows thing.

I got mine replaced for free by Apple in Malaysia. No more screen issues after that :)

Hmm... I have trackpad freezing on my 2012 rMBP, should I bring it up with Apple?

It's been going on for months now and I've just been ignoring it. I'm worried that if I send my laptop in they'll just say "nah we can't find a problem" because it freezes up very intermittently.

In Malaysia, the AASP was very well aware of this trackpad issue, along with the image retention of the screen. I got my display and trackpad replaced for free. They even posted on their FB page to notify rMBP users to send in their devices for free repairs.

Super cool. How long did you take it in after you purchased?

It's not the late 2013 model per se; it is MAVERICKS.

I have had this problem since GM1 on a 2009 MBP 17''.

If you go in the Mavericks subforum, tons of people deny having any problem; but I think they have just yet to encounter it. It is sporadic.

BTW: Re-logging in will fix the problem. If you set up the fast-user switching option to show in the menu bar, it is pretty fast.

The trackpad scrolling problem was addressed by APPLE themselves in the dev notes in an earlier DP.

NEVER had this problem on Mountain Lion or earlier.

Yep, I second this.

I have recently ordered a iMac (still not delivered yet though) wit a trackpad... I've been reading up on the forums and a lot of people are complaining about the trackpad having issues too (especially when swiping between spaces).

I have had my 13" 2.4 8GB RAM 256SSD rMBP for the last 4 days and on the first day it froze but it's been plain sailing after that! No IR thus far and loving this screen!
Besides the freezing issue that seems to be effecting the late 2013 models this machine is a dream! I'm loving it!:D

Cheers Paul

The only problem I had with Bootcamp on my new rMBP (the 3rd config 13") was the fact the ` and § keys are the wrong way around for me. The same keys are the wrong way around in different languages as well I found.

Any solutions?

My 15" seems perfect! (My first retina Macbook, my poor iMac.) Although my friend got a 15" too and said that sometimes the trackpad does kind of freeze up if he's trying to drag icons etc.

Apple will get a solution soon, mavericks is like ios7 without the graphics overhaul they've done loads of system tweaks like power saving tricks I'm sure this is software related as I can imagine apple doing some funky stuff if keys are not pressed and certain sleep actions happen, it's probably one single bracket in a line of code.

Are you all still banging on a about screen retention issues? Really, this is LGs fault for those screens I'm assuming apple knew or was aware but you don't know how bad it is until it gets out into the wild.

Same ****, different product

The first generation of new Apple hardware has almost ever had and is always going to have issues.

- Mac Pro whistling power supply
- iPad / iPhone yellow displays due to improper use of glue
- Antenna-Gate iPhone 4
- Fragile cases of MacBook white

The list is endless. Issues I've had so far:

- iPod Nano 1st gen.: Battery faulty
- Mac Mini Core Duo 1.66 GHz: DVD-Drive didn't work anymore
- MacBook white (2008): Some keys produced false input
- iPhone 3G: Homebutton broke
- iPhone 4: Power button broke
- iPad 3: backlight bleeding issues

Normally Apple solves the problems or is willing to completely replace the product, still it remains a bit of gambling whether the product will work or not. :apple:

happened to me twice already

I just bought my 13" rMBP on Friday and the freeze-up happened to me once that day and again on Saturday. Both required hard resets, and I ended up hear while looking for the problem.

Other than that, though, I absolutely love this machine. If this continues to be a problem, I have every bit of faith that Apple will either fix it or replace it with something where it's not a problem, without any fuss, so I'm not worried.

I'm having freezing on my 2011 MacBook Air under Mavericks. Can't do anything but restart. Feels like a memory leak...

{Pyrrhic Victory's insulting comment about Tim Cook was, thankfully, removed by admins. What follows is my response to that now-deleted comment.}

Yeah, under Steve Jobs, there would never have been Macs released with nVidia graphic chips that suddenly die. iPod Nanos would never have been released with defective batteries. He would never have allowed iPhones to be released with antenna issues. Under Steve Jobs, there would never have been white MacBooks released with plastic cases that crack. He would never have allowed the release of USB power adapters with metal prongs that break off and remain in a power outlet.

Oh, wait... All of those things did happen under Steve Jobs.

So product defects are obviously just a smokescreen for your real issue with Tim Cook. What could it be? You once made a comment tinged with homosexual overtones where you wrote "[Tim Cook] couldn't hold Jobs' jockstrap." That's a bit disturbing, but perhaps a window into what's really bothering you.

"It just works..."

Maybe "just" in that context means "barely," as in "he's just old enough to buy beer."

Sleep then Wake fixes for me too

I have brand-new 13 inch MacBook Pro (late 2013 2.6ghz model). Mine has locked up a few times since I got it on Thursday. It sounds like exactly the same symptoms, random the lock ups. I have found by tapping the power button to put it to sleep then tapping again resolve the issue. It's still a bug but it's much quicker than a hard reset. So I have to agree, it seems like a software issue, likely with Mavericks.

I had a random trackpad and keyboard freeze on my 2011 MacBook Pro, I've never had anything like it before. I just put it to sleep for a moment and that seemed to fix it. I wonder if it's software bug that's affecting more than just the new models, or just a coincidence.

The problem is most likely something with Mavericks. I've managed to generate a ton of freezes, random reboots, apps getting stuck for no apparent reason, on this new rmbp 15". All of the same actions work on my older Unibody Macbook Pro 13". This is what we get for running a .0 release.
