Congrats to the Phillies. I wanted the Rays to win, but the Phillies outplayed them at almost every aspect of the World Series.

+1..Amazing how many "lifelong, diehard" Rays fans suddenly appeared out of the woodwork in September...
They're all 10 years old. :p
That's never happened in Philly- happens in other places like Detroit and Chicago- but Philly parades have always been peaceful and HUGE.. Though there haven't been too many (but honestly, there's not many cities with parades on a regular basis), the behavior here has ALWAYS been exemplary..

There's a iReporter video of people in the streets of Philly after the win, and many comments are along the lines of "Yeah, break stuff and flip cars and burn **** because you won something!", even though the closest thing to actual disorder (aside from the streets being clogged with pedestrians) was a few people sitting on top of a bus stop shelter. Lots of hugging, jumping, and some spraying of carbonated beverages. There was even a shot of some cops standing on a corner. No riot gear, they even looked somewhat bored.

I went to the parade today; it was intense (or as my APUSH teacher says, "deap". It's a long story). Me, my brother, and my father skipped school (not my dad, he's retired) and stood at Broad and Spruce for over two hours, just a few rows of people behind the front. Suddenly, when people were getting really antsy for the parade to start, a large group of people just broke through the rope barriers and my family ended up in the front of the group; the cops didn't even stop everyone, all they did was keep us in the shoulder as opposed to the curb.

I was at the Red Sox parade last year. It was awesome! My friend and I were in Copley near a bunch of media trucks. The guy who made the sign was about 15 feet away too.

Having been to a static rally (after the Pats won SB XXXVIII), where over 1 million people were stuffed into Government Center in Boston, I have to say that parades/rolling rallies are they way to go now. No need for one big one at the end.

Or that many had too much spirit.

Either way, I'm convinced they set a quota.

I don't know, I was there- it was very friendly.. I guess 76 sounds about right.. There was over 2 million people there, so I guess that's about the knucklehead ratio for any major city.. from what I could tell the only signs of frustration came as a result of the public transportation basically being overwhelmed- and even that was only minor irritation at best..

But, in the end, it only takes a couple nitwits to make the masses look bad- especially with the reputation that Philly has..
