I think the biggest problem with baseball (and to a smaller extent the NBA) is that they are starting their games way too late in the evening. The World Series should start with their first pitch at 7:05-7:10 PM ET, which means games will end at a reasonable hour.

I would love to see the NBA start the majority of their playoffs with a tipoff at 7:05 pm ET for the first early round games and 8:05 pm ET for their Finals.

If we are talking about the NBA I would love to see them cut the number of teams from 16 to 12. Why have more than half the league allowed to be in the playoffs.
The number of teams baseball has is good. They just need to work on the travel schedule. Why should a wild card team get 2 home games. And I would rework a 7 game series. 2 home 2 away away 1-1-1. Why have it 2-3-2, it is not much of a home field.

While I can sympathize with the viewers on the East Coast, starting World Series games at 7 PM in the eastern time zone would mean that they'd be played mainly during work and drive time for the West Coast.

The other argument is playing games at 10 pm for the west coast means most people east won't see anything past 4 innings. I hate west coast games in the regular season, the games don't end until 2 am.

yes, the nba has too many teams in the playoffs, but that's another story. i personally think the travel schedule for mlb is fine, baseball, unlike basketball, is an everyday sport, and having so much travel is going to get things out of whack, especially if fuel prices go up. and i disagree with the wild card getting less games than anyone else, that's bordering on very unfair to the team and the fans of that team.

that's why i would say games would start just before 8 pm. that way, as many people as possible see the end of the game (at least), west coast doesn't miss too much, east coast gets to stay up to see the end. 7 pm et is a bit too early for weekdays. while i want to make sure the west coast viewers are watching the game, do advertisers want to tell the network that half of our viewers will be gone by the 8th inning? but why can't fox do a 5 pm et on saturdays?

I don't think you can blame FOX for the start times. MLB could put the games on whenever they like. But the advertising money is at night.

The relationship between the broadcasters and MLB is so close you couldn't slip a piece of paper between them. TV is a huge source of revenue for both, so you can be sure that the Commissioner's Office isn't going to make decisions that would threaten any of that income. If they do anything fan-friendly at all, it's because it also maximizes their revenue.

Exactly..And that's what it all comes down to. $$$$$$ and how to generate it. There's a reason it's called "prime time"..

Holy ****! The Phillies won! This is the first time in my life a team I root for won! I don't know what to do!!!!!!

WWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

Another World Series 5 game bust.

at least all of the games were close (expect late in game 4). but i expect abysmal ratings.

i'm proud of the rays, even though they fell short. congrats to the phillies (bad for me as a braves fan for apparent reasons). they are a great team with great chemistry that is built right, something i admire. just an overlooked team the last few years, but they play solid baseball. hamels named mvp.

On the bright side, now Met fans can feel worse.:p

no matter what happened in this world series, the mets were going to be the big losers in this. either their main rival, the phillies win, or kazmir, their big prospect wins the ring after being banished to tampa bay.

Now my kids get to go to the parade like I did in '80

It's all good. Philly still sucks, always will. Tampa still took 2 of 3 championships from you, and without the help of any league, thank you very much.

Go Rays, thank you for a magical season.
