I'm rooting for the Dodgers for at least the NLDS. I hope they sweep the Cubs :D

Since I've got tickets for games 3 and 4, I guess I win either way!

Loney had the big blast obviously, but Manny's solo homer was a thing of beauty, hit practically off his shoes deep into the bleachers. That kind of hitting ability has to give you chills.

Great game in Chicago today! What a surprise to see the Dodgers go long for all of their runs.

I especially liked how patient they were with Dempster. They were getting baserunners and wearing him down before Loney cashed in. I'm very interested to see how Billingsley handles the playoff pressure tonight. We know he has the stuff.

Re TBS: I've never heard a play-by-play announcer make as many mistakes in one game as Dick Stockton did last night. Mixing up names, mistaking one word for another, over and over. I seriously started wondering if he's healthy.

New territory for Billingsley, and he didn't look great in his last start. I hope the extra days off they gave him help.

I didn't notice Stockton's mistakes last night. I was happy that we didn't have to endure those clowns at ESPN so it was relatively tolerable. I understand Vin is on KABC, but we can't get that station here and I don't know of any local affiliate broadcasts.

Off the top of my head, I can think of several mistakes. At the very start of the broadcast he said that calling it a big series "would be an understudy." He confused Derek Lowe with Derrek Lee. He also said that Piniella's 2001 Mariners (of 116 win fame) had lost to Torre's Dodgers in the playoffs that year.

I guess I'm going to have to get used to TBS covering the playoffs, but I don't have to like it. Skip Caray is terrible. If someone wants to tie up and gag him in their basement for the next month, I'd be glad to provide an alibi. I had no idea that Joe Simpson had a broadcasting job. (Frankly I only knew him as a Dodger role player in the 1970s.) Shows how much I've avoided Braves broadcasts.

The sad thing is that TBS puts their marquee crew on the Angels/Sox game and that is the worst crew they have.

In the small mercies department, at least they didn't blabber endlessly like some we could mention, and the cameras stayed on the field instead of being diverted frequently into the broadcast booth. And although it seemed to me that the commentary was clearly biased towards the Cubs, it wasn't as egregious as when ESPN broadcasted the Dodgers and Mets games two years ago.

it's chip caray. skip caray, his father, died two months ago. and yes, chip is awful, all he does is non stop talking and alot of braves fans don't like him. skip was funny and classy, chip is blabbering and annoying. joe simpson has been doing braves games for at least 15 years on tbs, but i think he took too much time away from smoltzie to talk some.

tbs is awful ever since they stopped doing braves games. it's like they sold out to new york and red sox and cubs and forgot about all of the other teams out there. their coverage is not that great (espn wasn't much good though) and they need to step it up fast.

Except he is so biased that you can't take what he says seriously....but then again, you probably like his biased opinion
Are you kidding, he certainly is not Yankee biased.

I don't know why MLB gave TBS the rights. How much money was offered to Buddy.

You're kidding, right? McCarver and Buck's man-crush on Jeter almost got my TV wet. They talked about Torre every chance they got. Tim couldn't wait to gush over Rivera. By the 2000s, they seemed bored when they were calling a postseason game that didn't include the Yankees.

You're right, I meant Chip.

I never liked Skip either though. He always sounded like a cross between Grover on Sesame Street and a kazoo. I also remember seeing several Braves-Dodgers games on TBS in the 1990s in which he and his boothmates blathered about something for so long that they had to backtrack to tell you about a good play that had just happened. I remember when he died people were saying that he was very willing to criticize the Braves, but he must have been off his form during the dozen or so times that I heard him. I distinctly remember him interrupting a conversation to note that Piazza had hit a monster home run the opposite field.

I agree, I remember watching a Braves game years ago on TBS because nothing else was on and the announcing was just as painful then as it is now.

Speaking of irritations, as a fan I was annoyed when they interviewed James Loney on the field after yesterday's game, and after giving him an opportunity to talk about his grand slam at-bat, he was asked the now inevitable questions about Manny. He handled it well but I'm sure he was thinking as I was that it was Loney who hit the slam, not Manny.

that's a good start to the rays playoffs. if anyone hasn't noticed by now, i'm pulling for the rays this time around, mostly because they are the local team around these parts.

Nice to see Harold Renolds doing a game. The stupidest thing ESPN ever did was fire him.
