Thank you, I will definitely try to do that but I'll only have a chance to do so after about 2 months because I am using this Macbook for work on a daily basis and I would need to leave it there for some time. I really wonder what they will tell me, I'll post it here after I went. By the way there are some screen flickers as well, but I can live with that. There are occasional horizontal flashes sometimes. But anyway, I hope the keyboard can get fixed without them breaking any other stuff.

Noooo!! Tell them the screen issue too and that it really bothers you. The keyboard issue my require a bottom half replacement, a screen issue may require a top half replacement. If you are really lucky they might just give you the new 16" instead!

I took my keyboard yesterday and showed the 'triage' guy the pictutre of my keys. He said he never saw it before and he would have to pencil me in to diagnose it before they woudl konw the fix. Like you I can't really give up the machine, however I will go back some quieter time and try again.

Thank you for the idea, I've just seen your post, I've just noticed there is a second page to this topic now.

By now my E key is just a white triangle. Actually I feel more and more like a sucker for buying 3 months before the 16 inch came out.

I am scheduling a meeting at the local Apple Store for Monday and if there would be a chance to fix everything that would be great. I love the system and the screen but its really crazy that buttons are peeling off and screen is flickering sometimes. Usually its black horizontal lines but sometimes white.

And I bought this from the official Apple store directly (ordered via phone), even though it is more expensive to buy there I thought its a good way to make sure that the quality is OK. Now I have to waste so much time to try to fix things.

By the way my battery only lasts for max. 4 hours without watching videos, playing games or anything and using browser and text editors only. I took a screenshot it says I have 40% left and time remaining 1 hour...
I suppose this is not normal either.

I would say it is normal for your usage.

You can se that chrome is using discrete GPU which typically more than halves your battery time.

May I suggest you try Safari?

Thanks for pointing that out I am glad if the battery is not defective at least, although it is a bit weird that the advertised battery life is only valid if the only thing you use is Safari.

Thank you for the tip but as a developer I'll have to keep using the Chrome because of the web dev tools, also I have to use it for browser compatibility check since a large amount of users are using Chrome. I didn't know a browser can halve the battery life of a Macbook Pro. Maybe it is a useful piece of info for people who consider buying one.

Overall it is a great machine and I even like how the butterfly keyboard feels, I can accept that the battery life is not as advertised because I am using Chrome, I am even OK with the screen having horizontal lines flickering on it every now and then. But overall this is not very cool if you consider the price and that this machine already went through so many iterations, they should have fixed all the basic things at least.

I've never had a laptop in my life where the keyboard peeled off after using it for 2-3 months.

About the keys. I went into the main Mac Store in town this morning before 10 before it was busy and the guys were super nice there and changing the keycaps on the worn out keys in about 5 mins. They even changed keys I had not yet noticed were fading. The guy told me it would always be free to change the keycaps also so warranty is irrelevant!

Thanks for the update. Please let us know if the keys are working well after that. I know someone who has a 13 inch Macbook and the keycaps keep popping off after some repairs done. Hope it works out for you! Sounds good, good luck!

I'm selling the machine in fact so won't be able to update you on it! 😊

I have the keys replaced too in the Apple Store. Battery life is still not great, but I guess this is how it is. The screen problem they said happens to 2018-2019 Mac Pros before the Catalina update.. I've got the .2 Catalina and now the screen issue seems to be solved too.

Mine is doing it on the command key... after a year and a half... I guess I use the keyboard shortcuts too much and apple's just saying "use your touchbar" 😅 I'll see after the current crisis what they do at the apple store (I'm in Europe so it's standard 2 years warranty).

I have the same problem with my 2018 MacBook Pro and it started to be annoying when I look at the keyboard. And I have this problem for a few months, at first it was only on A letter and I was thinking is dirt, but it's not. Also, I have the eee aaa ooooo problem and I don't take it to the service because I don't have another laptop here... I'm planning on buying wireless keyboard.

Is it always free to replace key caps in / out of warranty?

Paint peeling off keys on a keyboard generally happens to folks who have a higher content of acid in their skin. My daughter is one of those people. She'll wear out a keyboard's symbols in no time. About the only thing you can do if your skin is that way is to wash your hands before using the keyboard. Not saying that's you.... it could also be a defect with your keyboard.

**** sounds like a diet change is a solution too.

I paid almost $3,000 for my Mac and the paint on some of the keys are peeling off. I can see the white through the keyboard. Is this covered under warranty? My Mac warranty expires on July 29th, so it is still within that period. However, this is an eyesore. There are other keys that are starting to peel off. I've had Macs since 2008, and never, ever had this happen.

Has anyone experience this and did apple replace it for free? Attached you will see the pic. Thanks.

I had this exact problem with my 13" 2018. In fact it just came back from repair a few hours ago due to the touch bar flickering and the A & S keys were producing multiple characters with a single keypress. I put up with theses issues for a year and finally shipped it back on Monday for repair. Anyway, the black paint on my A, S and Command keys was worse than yours lol.

I never had the paint wear , but my son did bang the keyboard with a remote accidentally causing damage to one of my keys including the scissor mechanism. I went to replacementlapyopkeys.com. Can purchase any of the key caps (including mechanisms) for any year MacBook Pro. Mine came fairly quickly and just snapped it on good as new .

This was for my 11 inch air btw.

Legendary Apple quality. I ordered chinese key caps for about 10$. Apple won't see my money too soon.
btw: thats after 13months of usage. Never experienced such bad quality. F751354E-7DB9-4B77-B5AE-2497AE5BED6C.jpeg

2015 MBP - less than a year in, 2 keys ended up with paint blemish. I never had this happen with any other laptop or keyboard for that matter.

Mine's worst, I've a 8months old USD3k Macbook pro 16", and the paint at the palm rest is chipping off. I use my 2009 13" at the same condition, and my 2009 machine still looks great. What's with Macbook new machine? I tried sending my machine to their service center, and it's been there for almost 2 weeks, the case has been lifted to Senior level, but still they refuse to fix/replace the flaw in my new machine. I'm super pissed with Apple product now, and highly recommend anyone to stay away from their space gray or color machines, stick to the original silver grey. My heart aches seeing this beast in defect.
